The Center for Rehabilitation was set up in September 1998 by the
vice speaker of the British Parliament Caroline Cox. In March 1999
Dr. Vardan Tadevosyan from Yerevan was invited for the position of
director of the center. In 2002 the center was transferred to the
NKR Ministry of Health and was named after Caroline Cox in 2005.
The mission of the center is to provide therapeutic and psychological
services to people who cannot walk.
Last year a special ultramodern pool was built at the Center for
water therapy. Recently the construction of the nursery school for
children with disabilities has ended, financed by the Canada-based
Howard Karagezian NGO and Unibank (as well as the NKR president). On
June 1 the nursery school will be dedicated.
The center has a gym, a computer classroom, painting, woodcarving,
ceramics studios. There is also an amateur choir at the center.
On June 1, 2004 a playground was opened at the Center in association
with the International Committee of the Red Cross. Edward Sefilian, an
Argentine benefactor, financed the central heating of the Center. The
patients are taken to Armenia for a tour every year. During the
trips they are accompanied by Robin MacLarry, a Scottish volunteer,
the great friend of the Center.
