PRESS RELEASE

Armenian Jerusalem Day Observance at the Western Diocese of the
Armenian Church

BURBANK, CA – Southern California’s Armenian community will have the
fortuitous opportunity of observing an historic occasion, Armenian
Jerusalem Day, on Tuesday evening, June 19, 2007 at the Western
Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America in Burbank,
California. Under the auspices of His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan
Derderian, Primate of the Western Diocese, the organizing committee of
the Srpots Tarkmanchats Alumni Association of North America cordially
welcomes all to attend this momentous event. The Friends of the
Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem, as well as the Friends of the
Gulbenkian Library of Jerusalem will be participating in this special
program, featuring keynote speaker and native Jerusalemite
Prof. Osheen Keshishian, Master of Ceremonies Parsegh Kartalian, and
Mistress of Ceremonies of the artistic segment of the program Seta
Hayriyan. In addition, the Grand Sacristan of the Brotherhood of
Sts. James in Jerusalem, His Eminence Archbishop Nurhan Manoogian,
will also be in attendance.

The chief rationale for observing Armenian Jerusalem Day is
three-fold, namely: To introduce the millennia-old heritage of
Armenians in Jerusalem to the Southern California Armenian community;
to highlight the centuries-old rights, privileges, and `Status Quo’
safeguarding Jerusalem Armenians and their assets for many centuries;
and, to encourage fellow Armenians throughout the Diaspora to embark
on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, in general, and to the Armenian
Patriarchate of Jerusalem, in particular, at least once in their
lifetime.

The artistic part of the program, in observance of Armenian Jerusalem
Day, will feature renowned singers Salpi Mayilian, Anahid Nersisyan,
Daniel Decker, Gagik Badalian, and Tavit Samuelian, accompanied by
Aline Melik Adamian on the piano, and Lilit Kojoyan on the
kanoun. Moreover, masterpieces of Armenian poetry will be recited by
Milene Hayriyan and Mary Avedisian.

Armenian Jerusalem Day will take place at 7:00 pm on Tuesday evening,
June 19, 2007 at the Kalaydjian Hall of the Western Diocese of the
Armenian Church of North America (3325 North Glenoaks Blvd., Burbank,
California). Refreshments, prepared by the Ladies Society of the
Western Diocese, will be served immediately following the program.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
