SURB GEVORG CHURCH OF SEVAN CITY CONSECRATED

SEVAN, JUNE 25, NOYAN TAPAN. The Altar of the repaired Surb
Gevorg Church in the Tsamakaberd district (the city of Sevan) was
consecrated on June 23 by the head of the Gegharkunik diocese Bishop
Markos Hovhannisian, NT was informed from the press service of the
Gegharkunik diocese.

The church was built at the end of the 19th century with the money
collected by villagers and was closely linked with the monks of Sevan
Island. In the Soviet time the church was turned into a storehouse. As
a result of indifference of the authorities, it started to crumble
and until recently was in a dilapidated state.

According to the press release, the church was completely rapaired
thanks to Walter Marutian, a resident of Tsamakaberd.
