Azerbaijan, Baku / Òrend corr K. Zarbaliyeva / Representatives of the
International Committee of the Red Cross met again on 26 June with
Azerbaijani soldier, Samir Mammadov, who was captured by Armenians.

The meeting was reported by the soldier’s father, Nazim Mammadov on
27 June.

The last time Red Cross representatives met with the captive was on
11 May.

A soldier of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, Samir Mammadov, was drafted
into military service on 24 December 2006, by the Military Conscription
Commission of Azerbaijani Barda region. His relatives failed to get in
touch him, and their letters still remain without reply. Mammadov’s
parents insisted that Samir faced pressure from the Armenians, who
would not let him maintain correspondence with his relatives.

The Armenians took Mammodov prisoner fifteen kilometres from his
military unit located at the border of Kazakh-Ijevan.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
