18 CASES OF MUSHROOM POISONING REGISTERED IN 6 MONTHS OF CURRENT YEAR IN ARMENIA

YEREVAN, JUNE 28, NOYAN TAPAN. 18 cases of mushroom poisoning were
registered in the six months of the current year in Armenia. Marieta
Basilisian, the Deputy Head of the State Hygienic Anti-epidemiological
Department of the RA Ministry of Health, said at the June 28 press
conference that 57 cases were registered last year, as a result of
which 95 people suffered, 7 out of them died.

It was mentioned that in order to avoid mushroom poisoning one should
not buy unchecked mushrooms of unknown origin. They should be bought
only at markets and shops, with seller’s having proper documents.

M. Basilisian said that in spite of many warnings, cases of food
poisoning, botulism, continue to be registered in the country. It
was mentioned that botulism is mainly caused by eating home-tinned
vegetables.
