"I am read to become president of Armenia," Leader of Marxist Party
David Hakobyan said at a press conference, Thursday.
The chief Marxist said he has the necessary potential to come to power,
but he is short of necessary money. "As a doctor I often communicate
with patients. I can say with confidence that people like me as person
and not as a party favorite. It means that one should not compare my
possibilities to become president with the result of the parliamentary
election," D. Hakobyan said.
He divides his rivals into two camps: those who have financial
potential and lack brains and vice versa. As regards Serzh Sargsyan,
who is considered the front-runner, the Marxist said: "My intuition
and objective analysis of the political situation in the country
say that there is not complete unanimity regarding Serzh Sargsyan’s
candidature even in the pro-government camp. I think his chances for
victory is 50/50 and not 80/20 as the Republican Party of Armenia
members try to present. Anyway, the presidential nominee directly
depends on how the West and Russia will perceive his person."
