The solemn seeing-off ceremony of the sixth shift of Armenian
peacekeepers for Iraq took place at the Municipal Regiment of
Yerevan. The peacekeeping platoon comprised of 46 servicemen will
be drafted for Iraq for the period of six months. Five doctors are
included in the platoon.

Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of
Armenia, Colonel-General Seyran Ohanyan said in his welcome speech
that the peacekeeping mission of the Armenian peacekeepers is "the
continuation of the fight for survival, due to which the contemporary
history of the Armenian people was created."

"Our army passed a glorious way, in the basis of which lies the fight
for survival and the liberation movement that granted independence
to our people. Your mission is the continuation of this, reconfirming
that the Republic of Armenia has its unique place among the states and
peoples of the world, and it is able to defend not only its interests
and country, ensure the peaceful life of the nation, but also serve
as another guarantee of common security," Seyran Ohanyan said.

"Once again we prove to the international community that we can secure
peace not only within the borders of the country but also outside it,"
said the Chief of the general Staff of the Armed Forces.
