RUSSIAN FOREIGN MINISTRY DOES NOT BELIEVE OBJECTIVE TURKEY’S JOINING OSCE MG

ArmInfo. Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrey Nesterenko does not
believe objective Turkey’s joining the OSCE MG. He said that Russian
Foreign Minister hadn’t received any proposals from Azerbaijan on
Turkey’s inclusion into the OSCE MG Co-Chairs group for settlement
of the Karabakh conflict, the official website of the Russian Foreign
Ministry reported.

"Even if such a suggestion was made, Russia, as the Co-Chair of the
OSCE MG on Karabakh talks, hasn’t received any official request. In
any case, in order to turn this proposal into practice, at least
the approval by three parties of the Group is necessary," Andrey
Nesterenko told journalists. "Taking into account that the process
of ratification of the Armenia-Turkey documents has been suspended,
one can hardly expect such developments in the process," he said.

As regards Iran’s offer to mediate in the Karabakh peace process, A.

Nesterenko said the Russian party is informed that Iran offered
a trilateral meeting of Armenian, Azerbaijani and Iranian foreign
ministers on the Karabakh issue. "We are not against such meeting,
of course. If it takes place, its results will allow thinking of
Iran’s mediation," he said.

Rapprochement protocols might serve Armenia’s interests, according
to Republic party board member Suren Surenyants.

"I believe, Armenia’s political system might see significant progress
in case of Armenia-Turkey border opening. However, presidential
statement on suspension of Protocols ratification put an end to any
possibility of progress; no excessive intellectual potential being
necessary to preserve power."

Surenyants characterized presidential statement on ratification
suspension as unjustified move, fraught with negative consequences
for Armenia. "According to Turkish Foreign Minister, Karabakh conflict
settlement will be the main issue on the agenda of his oncoming visit
to Russia. Clearly, Armenia will not be involved in Turkey-Russia
negotiations on the issue," he emphasized.

Dwelling on international recognition of Genocide, Surenyants noted
it would be more reasonable if the issue was withdrawn from Armenia’s
foreign policy agenda. "Currently, the issue has become, with our
permission, an object for superpowers to gamble with," he said.

Commenting on the role of Russia in regional issues, Surenyants noted
that Russia has to maintain status quo to retain its influence.

"Armenian authorities must consider requesting withdrawal of Russian
military bases from RA, our safety guarantor being not Russian military
men, but normalizing ties with our neighbors."

As for internal political issues, Surenyants stated that in case
of early elections, ANC will come out in a united front; in case of
regular elections, participation of separate political forces within
ANC can’t be ruled out.

When questioned by reporters on the failure of ANC to raise the issue
of violation of Javahk Armenians rights in Georgia, he responded that
the opposition should first of all struggle to get the problems inside
Armenia solved. "The issue of Javahk Armenians rights can be resolved
through their integration and Georgia’s democratization," he stated.

Mall tycoon Rick Caruso interested in buying Glendale Galleria

Caruso eyes Galleria

Developer says he’d like to buy that mall and others, then improve them.

By Zain Shauk

April 27, 2010

Americana at Brand developer Rick Caruso on Tuesday said he would be
interested in using a new joint $750-million investment fund to buy the
rival Glendale Galleria.

Caruso, a billionaire who also developed the Grove in Los Angeles, announced
the joint venture with global investment firm TPG Capital on Tuesday, saying
it would be tapped to buy and transform distressed properties into retail
and mixed-use destinations.

Although Caruso plans to spread his new investments along the West Coast, he
said he was specifically interested in adding to his 475,000 square feet of
commercial and retail property in Glendale and to his other developments in
the Los Angeles region.

Caruso planned to direct the new fund’s investments around major population
centers throughout the West Coast, including Los Angeles, Northern
California, Seattle, and San Diego and Orange counties, he said.

The Glendale Galleria, a 1.5-million-square-foot mall and office tower
adjacent to the Americana, could be a possibility, Caruso said.

"I think that there would be some very interesting synergies with owning the
Galleria along with the Americana," he said. "It certainly needs help."

The Galleria is owned and operated by Chicago-based General Growth
Properties Inc., which filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last year and
is formulating a restructuring plan in court.

Real estate experts and city officials say the Galleria needs structural
improvements to stay competitive because other malls in the region, like
Westfield properties in the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles, have made
substantial upgrades.

A spokesman for General Growth said the company was not familiar with Caruso’s
interest and said the Galleria was not for sale.

"Glendale Galleria is a great property and one we’re very proud of," David
Keating, a spokesman for General Growth, said in a statement.

The Galleria has 250 stores, including a three-story Target, a Macy’s,
Nordstrom and J.C. Penney.

A fifth major tenant space, formerly occupied by Mervyn’s, has been vacant
for more than a year.

Caruso said his firm would provide the investment needed to improve the mall’s
infrastructure and make it more attractive.

"I think the mall, I think everybody would agree that it needs to be
upgraded, remodeled," Caruso said of the Galleria.

"I know the initial plans for Glendale for General Growth was to do that . .. That’sa very tired mall. I would love to see, whether it’s us or somebody else,
improve it."

Turkish Foreign Ministry said the Israeli Knesset’s decision to accept
a proposal to discuss the Armenian Genocide was an attempt expected
to fail like previous ones.

Commenting on the Knesset’s decision to accept the leader of Meretz
Party Haim Oron’s proposal to debate the Armenian Genocide, Foreign
Ministry Spokesman Burak Ozugurgun pointed out that similar proposals
were discussed at Knesset in the past and added: "We expect such
attempts to fail like the examples in the past."

"Turkey’s view on judgment of history by parliamentarians, in general,
is well known. It is better to leave interpretation of history to
historians," said Ozugurgun.

Ozugurgun informed that Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Feridun
Sinirlioglu would shortly travel to Israel for regular consultations,
adding that the Middle East peace process as well as the course of
Turkish-Israeli relations would be discussed, Anadolu Agency reports.
