YEREVAN, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) — German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Germany would support Armenia to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict peacefully, at a joint press conference with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Yerevan on Friday.

"Germany is a Minsk Group member and we spoke about the fact that it is important that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is resolved in a good atmosphere and with this regard, Germany will support Armenia," Merkel was quoted by state-run Armenpress as saying.

"I am happy to note that Germany fully supports the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group and Germany and Madam Chancellor herself believe that the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh can be solved only through peaceful means," Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan in turn added.

The German leader also vowed her country's support for Armenia in the process of visa liberalization by the European Union for Armenian citizens. "We will do everything in our power to make progress with this issue," Angela Merkel noted.

While answering a question regarding potential cooperation between the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and the European Union (EU), Angela Merkel said that formal negotiations between EEU and EU were unlikely to take place in the near future but that "Armenia's example is evidence that such cooperation is possible," referring to the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) the European bloc signed with Armenia last November.

Azerbaijani Press: German MP’s name on "undesirable persons" list since 2014

AzerNews, Azerbaijan
Aug 21 2018

By Rashid Shirinov

German MP Albert Weiler made illegal visits to the occupied territories of Azerbaijan in 2014 and 2016, and therefore his name has been included in the list of “undesirable persons” since that period, Spokesman for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Hikmat Hajiyev told Trend on August 21.

He was commenting on reports in the Bild newspaper about the ban on the German MP’s entry into the territory of Azerbaijan.

“Some foreign media noted that as if his name was included in this list only now. This is incorrect information, as the name of Weiler has been in the list of “undesirable persons” since 2014. This man made illegal visits to the territory of Azerbaijan occupied by the armed forces of Armenia,” the spokesman noted.

Hajiyev stressed that it is necessary to respect the territorial integrity, sovereignty and laws of other countries, and in this context illegal visits to the occupied territories of Azerbaijan are unacceptable.

He added that at the same time Azerbaijan takes a constructive position on this issue, and if the persons who do not conduct activities directly against Azerbaijan send letters of apology and express respect for the territorial integrity and laws of Azerbaijan, the exclusion of their names from the list of “undesirable persons” may be considered and such experience already exists.

“If this person addresses us, we can consider this case, but such appeals from him have not been received so far. Therefore, there is a ban on his entry into the territory of Azerbaijan,” Hajiyev said.

Names of any individuals paying unauthorized visits to Nagorno-Karabakh and other regions of Azerbaijan occupied by Armenia are included in the Foreign Ministry’s list of “undesirable persons.” The ministry and diplomatic missions pay special attention to the illegal activity in the occupied areas of the country.

Baku has repeatedly warned foreign officials and diplomats of illegality of visits to its territories that are occupied by Armenia, calling them contradictory to international law. The work is constantly carried out to prevent such illegal actions.

La Comunidad Armenia regresa mañana domingo a Santa María

Gente de Paz Información, España
11 ago. 2018

Uncontrolled situation on Amulsar can lead to unforeseen consequences: Lydian Armenia once again demands restoration of the rule of law

Yerevan July 31

Alina Hovhannisyan. On July 30 at 16:00 on the territory of the Amulsar program and outside it, in particular on the heap leaching site and in the territory adjacent to the refinery, a fire broke out, which spread to the construction site of Amulsar. As the press service of the company reports, the fire was repaid by the firefighters of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and Lydian Armenia employees within a few hours. The causes of the fire are still unknown, in addition, the possible size of the damage caused is not calculated. The fire was extinguished, due to the use of equipment belonging to the company Lydian Armenia.

"In view of the fact that the fire was not detected and localized in time, the fire spread widely and could turn into a serious ecological catastrophe, in terms of destroying biodiversity and damage to the environment," the source noted.

To note, the roads leading to the Amulsar deposit have been blocked for more than a month by a group of activists who oppose the exploitation of the field. The police, at that, do not interfere. To recall, Lydian Armenia is a subsidiary of British Lydian International, whose shareholders are also large international institutional investors from the United States, Great Britain, a number of European countries, including EBRD. The Amulsar project is the largest industrial project in Armenia for the development of the Amulsar gold deposit at a total cost of $ 370 million. In August 2016, a project for the construction and development of the field was launched. Preliminary work has been carried out since 2006. The life of the Amulsar deposit will be 10 years and 4 months, an annual average of 200,000 ounces of gold (about 10 million tons of ore) is planned. The company's shares are quoted on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Amulsar deposit is the second largest in Armenia.

Armenian Republicans denounce Kocharyan detention as antidemocratic step

ARKA, Armenia

YEREVAN, July 30. /ARKA/. The faction of the Republican Party of Armenia reacted angrily to the detention of former Armenian president Robert Kocharyan.

The party members think that this process ‘has nothing in common with democracy, legality and independence of the justice system’.

In their opinion, the criminal case strikes hard at political things inside Armenia and ‘such unjustified accusations lay grounds for political split in the country’, which are especially dangerous ‘amid challenges around Armenia and Artsakh’.

They also think that the trouble caused to Kocharyan may tarnish Armenia’s reputation in international and judicial organizations.

A Yerevan district court late on July 27 ruled that the Special Investigative Service (SIS) could hold Kocharyan for two months in pre-trial detention pending investigation. The case dates back to late February and early March 2008 following the disputed presidential election, when then prime minister Serzh Sargsyan was declared the winner, angering the opposition, led by the first Armenian president Levon Ter-Petrosyan and setting off 10 days of nonstop protests that led to a crackdown on March 1, in which 10 people were killed and more than 200 injured.

Kocharyan is now charged with toppling constitutional order in collusion with other persons, and the agency has applied to court for a detention warrant.

The same charge was brought against Yuri Khachaturov, secretary general of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, who had been the chief of the Yerevan garrison at the time of the bloody events of 2008.

However, Khachaturov was released on bail, for AMD 5 million.

Also former defense minister Mikael Harutyunyan is wanted by the law-enforcement authorities as a defendant in the case.

He is accused of illegally using the Armenian armed forces against opposition supporters who demonstrated in Yerevan in the wake of the disputed presidential election held in February 2008. –0—

Armenian church to be restored in Turkey

PanArmenian, Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net – The historic Armenian Germuş Churchin the southeastern Turkish city of Şanlıurfa will soon be opened to tourists after some extensive renovation, Daily Sabah reports.

It was reported several years ago that the church had been turned into a cattle shed. The building was reconstructed by Armenians some 15 years ago, yet it failed to become a tourist destination.

Located 10 kilometers northeast of the city center and on the edge of Germuş Mountain, the historical church has stood the test of time. The date of its construction is not precisely known, as there are no inscriptions, but the church is estimated to be built at the beginning of the 19th century.

The Chairman of the Regional Tourist Guides Chamber, Müslüm Çoban noted that Armenians used to live in the surrounding area of the church. "The old houses and underground structures in the region should also be opened to tourism," he said.

"There are two churches in the village but the smaller one is almost completely destroyed. The Armenian Church is still standing. The existence of more than one church in a place indicates its importance. The opening of the church will attract the attention of many foreign tourists."
