The Central Bank of Armenia has put into circulation 20 000 Johan
Cruyff silver coins with nominal value of AMD100 in the framework of
Football Kings program, the CBA press office said.

Johan Cruyff (born Hendrik Johannes Cruijff on 25 April 1947 in
Amsterdam, Netherlands), is a Dutch football manager, former player
and President of Honour of FC Barcelona. He has won the Ballon d’Or
three times – in 1971, 1973 and 1974 – which is a record jointly held
with Michel Platini and Marco van Basten. Cruyff was the most famous
exponent of the football philosophy known as Total Football explored by
Rinus Michels, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest players of
all time. He is typically dubbed as one of the four football "Legends"
along with Diego Maradona, Alfredo di Stefano and Pele.

After his retirement from playing in 1984, Cruyff became highly
successful as manager of Ajax and later Barcelona; he remains an
influential advisor to both clubs. His son Jordi has also gone on
to play football professionally. In 1999, Cruyff was voted European
Player of the Century in an election held by the IFFHS, and came
second behind Pele in their World Player of the Century poll. He
came third in a vote organized by the French weekly magazine France
Football consulting their former Ballon d’Or winners to elect their
Football Player of the Century. On 2 November 2009 Cruyff was named
as the head coach of the Catalonia national football team in place
of Pere Gratacos. This is his first coaching job in thirteen years.

The latest statement of the Armenian National Congress calls
for national union, with a reservation of releasing the political
prisoners. Congress had made appeals to dialogue before too. At the
same time, Congress refuted the proposals of Heritage and other
initiatives to discuss national issues. The other angles of the
Armenian political triangle do not accept it either.

The Armenian political triangle composed of the power-Congress-ARF
turns into an obstacle for the development of the country. Development
is possible only in case forces of influence are ready to sacrifice
their disagreements. In Armenia, no one seems to be ready for it. For
already 20 years, Armenia has been living in the atmosphere of hatred
between the team of the first president and the ARF Dashnaktsutyun,
and the ruling coalition is skillfully getting use of it quite.

Hatred appeared just when the independent Republic of Armenia was
established: deep disagreements were formed between Levon Ter-Petrosyan
and the Dashnak team, which had great influence then.

Experts consider it a fight for the power. The first president
succeeded in ousting the ARF from the power in Armenia and Karabakh.

However, in their fight neither the one nor the other party avoided
the steps that affect the course of military action, the social
situation of the people. This was followed by repression, then –
return of the ARF to power, when there was no Levon Ter-Petrosyan.

Currently, the first president and the ARF Dashnaktsutyun are
opposition. Factually, they should have many layers of cooperation. It
is comprehensible that the positions of the liberal Levon Ter-Petrosyan
and the social-revolutionary Dashnaktsutyun are contradictory. But such
antagonism of stances did not hinder many forces to join the Congress,
just like ARF cooperated with many liberal forces. This means that
the problem does not consist in political disagreements. Moreover,
neither ARF nor the first president ever called the distinct reasons
for their disagreement in these 20 years.

What are the reasons that do not allow them to sit around one table to
discuss the most urgent issues? I would like to ask a naïve question –
why do they hate each other so much? And how would everything go if
the sides managed to overcome their hatred towards each other?

Roots of Islam fundamentalism lie in Nazi propaganda for Arab world

Roots of Islamic fundamentalism lie in Nazi propaganda for Arab world, book
claims

The roots of Islamic fanaticism can be traced to Adolf Hitler’s radio
messages broadcast around the Arab world during the Second World War,
according to a new book.

"Your only hope for rescue is the destruction of the Jews before they
destroy you!" Hitler said in a 1942 message, one of thousands broadcast
across the Middle East in an attempt to woo the Arab world.

In a broadcast aimed at provoking an anti-Semitic uprising in Egypt, he
said: "A large number of Jews who live in Egypt, along with Poles, Greeks,
Armenians and Frenchmen, have guns and ammunition.

"Some Jews in Cairo have even asked the British authorities to set up
machine guns on the roofs of their houses," he claimed.
But the Nazi’s wartime broadcasts had remained a largely hidden chapter in
the history of the war until the transmissions were unearthed by a US
scholar, who believes they have fuelled continuing unrest in the Middle
East.

"The conflict between Israel and the Palestinians would have been over long
ago were it not for the uncompromising, religiously inspired hatred of the
Jews that was articulated and given assistance by Nazi propagandists and
continued after the war by Islamists of various sorts," said Jeffrey Herf, a
history professor at the University of Maryland.

In his new book, "Nazi Propaganda for the Arab World", Mr Herf argues that
Nazi propagandists offered a message that neatly dovetailed with underlying
prejudice.

"Islamic fundamentalism, like European totalitarianism in the 20th century,
was and is a mixture of very old and very modern elements.
"It is also a product of a mixture of some indigenous currents in the
history of Islam with the hatred of democracy, liberalism and the Jews that
were so central to National Socialism.

Mr Herf uncovered 6,000 transmissions, produced under the propaganda
minister Josef Goebbels and sent around the Arab world from 1939 to 1945.

The transcripts of the broadcasts were made by the American embassy in Cairo
during the war, and classified until 1977 in Washington. But it was not
until two years ago that Mr Herf became the first scholar to be given access
to the files.

The Nazis relied on radio broadcasts – translated into Arabic – to sow
propaganda because of high illiteracy in the Arab world at the time.
Although radio ownership was small, it was commonplace for cafes and bazaars
to draw large crowds to listen to broadcasts.

"This propaganda campaign comprised an important chapter in the history of
the war," Mr Herf said.

"The Arab language propaganda produced in wartime Berlin was a significant
chapter in the longer history of radical Arab nationalism and militant
Islam."

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan is on a mission to Shanghai. The
president has requested Chinese corporations to stop over in Armenia
as they make their way toward Western markets.

After tanking by more than 18.2 percent in 2009, the Armenian economy
could definitely use some Chinese cash. Hundreds of millions of
dollars in life support from international donors have not yet made
up for that amputated economic growth.

On the sidelines of the World Expo, where China flaunted its
booming economy, Sargsayn signed a cooperation memo with Chinese
telecommunication technology giant Huawei Technologies. Sargsyan tried
to gauge the interest of Huawei and its rival Zhong Xing Equipment
in several projects in Armenia.

International development groups have urged Armenia to diversify
its sources of income after revenues from foreign remittances and
its once booming construction sector dried up amidst the global
financial crisis.

TURKISH MMP LEADER CALLS TO LAUNCH MILITARY ACTIVITIES AGAINST ARMENIA

Panorama.am

Turkey’s "Nationalist and Conservative Party" (MMP) leader Ahmet
Reyiz Yilmaz spoke on the necessity to start military activities
against Armenia. He said the military actions against Armenia were
needed to stop the terrorist acts of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

According to Turkish Beyazgazete, Yilmaz spread a message to draw
attention to the number of Turks killed in PKK movement after the
protocols were signed.

"PKK is Armenian terrorist organization. Instead of getting deep into
the matter, the government signs PKK cease-fire with Armenians.." the
message reads.

Note that the attempts to call the Kurdish military-political
organization Armenian are not new. Groundless and naked statements of
the Turkish side are called to raise anti-Armenian and anti-Kurdish
disposition.
