/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Activities of social councils are a widespread and
reliable phenomenon in international practice. RA Social Council’s
activities are based on social potential management mechanism and
stable civil society forming, Chairman of RA Social Council Committee
for Civil Society Establishment, Philosophical Sciences Candidate,
Hovhannes Hovhannesyan stated.

According to him, upon election of chairmans for all committees,
the Social council passed on to internal procedures – infrastructure
forming, development of mechanisms for election of new committee
members, discussion of committee regulations and schedule of sittings.

On June 9, Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian received
Philip Gordon, Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs
who is in Yerevan with a working visit.

In his welcoming remarks Armenian Foreign Minister said that Armenia
attaches importance to the further strengthening of relationship with
the United States and is determined to develop and deepen friendly
partnership with the USA.

Assistant Secretary Gordon mentioned that the American side attaches
importance to the expansion of comprehensive cooperation with Armenia
and the fact that after the appointment as Assistant Secretary his
first foreign visit starts form Armenia is the evidence of that.

Minister Nalbandian and Assistant Secretary Gordon had a detailed
discussion on further development of Armenian-American relations,
attached importance to the activities of Armenian-American
Intergovernmental Commission on Economic issues. They also touched
upon the issues concerning the Millennium Challenge program.

The two discussed the process of reforms carried out in
Armenia. Minister Nalbandian presented the steps undertaken by the
Armenian authorities towards the implementation of democratic reforms.

US Assistant Secretary reaffirmed the full support of the US
Administration for the steps undertaken in the direction of
normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations.

Minister Nalbandian and Assistant Secretary exchanged views on the
settlement process of Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) issue. In that context
Philip Gordon stressed that as the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair the USA
will continue to actively promote the efforts aimed at the settlement
of the issue.

Brazilian officials say 24 bodies have now been recovered, an increase
from the previous total of 16. Bodies and debris from the plane have
been found some 1,000km (600 miles) north-east of Brazil’s Fernando
de Noronha islands, where the Airbus disappeared.

It’s worth reminding that Air France jet flight from Rio de Janeiro
to Paris disappeared on 1 June having 228 people on board from which
216 were passengers.

As of June 5, 38 tons of sweet cherry was exported from Armenia,
which was by 4 tons more than in the same period of last year. The
Head of the Plant Quarantine and Cultivation Inspection of RA Ministry
of Agriculture Vram Gyulzadian told NT correspondent that 2,061 tons
of potato was exported from the country in the indicated period –
compared to 4,467 tons last year.

It was mentioned that cabbage imports grew by 2,000 tons this year. V.
Gyulzadian explained that the main reason is that in recent years
farmers prefer to cultivate grain and barley. According to him,
this contributed to a fall in harvests of melons and gourds, as a
result of which Armenia is turning from an exporting country into an
importing one.

129 thousand tons of wheat, 20 tons of corn, 1,464 tons of groats,
and 5.153 tons of rice were imported into Armenia in January-May
2009. Unlike the indicated crops, tomato and cucumber imports did
not grow in the indicated months: 30 tons of cucumber and 51 tons of
tomato was imported.

Today the National Assembly elected Chairpersons of two NA Committees.

Former deputy speaker of the Armenian parliament, ARF member Hrayr
Karapetyan, was elected Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on
Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs.

Remind that the former Chairman of the Standing Committee, ARF member
Artur Aghabekyan resigned office after the ARF-Dashnaktsutyun withdrew
from the Coalition.

BHK member Naira Zohrabyan was appointed Chairman of the NA Standing
Committee on European Integration. The post had been vacant since
Avet Adonts was appointed Armenia’s Ambassador to Belgium.

None of the MPs asked questions to Hrayr Karapetyan and Naira
Zohrabyan.

In his addressing speech Republican MP Edward Sharmazanov called on
his fellow colleagues to vote for the candidates.

BHK MP Aram Safaryan noted that Naira Zohrabyan is the best candidate
for the post with her professional background of a deputy and
journalist.

After the voting Hrayr Karapetyan and Naira Zohrabyan thanked their
colleagues for the confidence.

Parliament has elected new chairpersons for committees on European
Integration and Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs.

Thus,Nayira Zohrabyan (Prosperous Armenia), was elected as Head of
Standing Committee on European Integration. Ex-Parliamentary Speaker
Hrayr Karapetyan (ARFD-Dahsnaktsutyun) was elected as Head of Standing
Committee on Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs.

Edward Nalbandian raised the issue of cutting prices for transit of
cargo destined for Armenia. "It’s much cheaper to deliver cargo from
any country than from Poti to Yerevan. This was one of the questions
we discussed with Mr. Vashadze. I am confident that we will negotiate
a solution," Minister Nalbandian said, according to Georgian media
reports.

Arminfo. The shareholders of ARARATBANK direct 581 mln drams of net
profit got in 2008 to capitalization, ensuring growth of the total
capital up to 7.5 bln drams in this way. When making a speech at
the annual meeting of the shareholders Chairman of the ARARATBank
Board Ashot Osipyan said that in 2008 total assets grew by 19,3%
having amounted to 29,6 bln drams. The credit portfolio of the bank
grew by 32,9% up to 12.2 bln drams; net profit grew by 74,4 bln and
total capital by 69%.

Acting as a quickly growing universal bank ARARATBank is drawing much
attention to improvement of the crediting technologies for financing
of small and medium-sized business within the frames of the European
Bank programme on development of the micro-financial services. It has
also fulfilled a programme on development of technologies to finance
medium-sized business. The bank is actively developing the branch net
and is increasing irs client base. The bank has entered the market
of loan obligations, having successfully placed its obligations and
held DPO. In November 2008 thanks to the new additional emission EBRD
became shareholder of the bank with a share 25% plus one share. As
representative of EBRD Aleksandr Babayan said in his speech,
EBRD entered the capital of ARARATBank taking into consideration
its active development, intensive growth of indices and high quality
team of managers. He also added that EBRD is going to continue showing
financial and technical aid to the bank to improve its risk-management,
system of corporative management, structural reforms, to draw out
new banking products and develop marketing technologies. ‘The EBRD
is watching ARARTBANK as a reliable partner’, – he said and added he
hopes the growing tendency of the bank will continue irrespective of
the cris is.

As the head of the Council of the bank, leader of ‘Flash’ company
Barseg Beglaryan told ArmInfo correspondent, ‘taking into consideration
the fact that the bank has a status of OJSC, we are going to become
more public bank’, and added the leadership of the bank is going to
discuss the problem of holding new emission of shares.

Meanwhile, as Ashot Osipyan told ArmInfo, taking into account the fact
that the world financial crisis is deepening its affect on Armenia,
the bank does not expect to get the predicted level of profit over the
current year, but nevertheless it will continue intensively developing
the banking technologies for the future jerk.

By the amount of assets, ARARATBANK is an average bank dynamically
developing in Armenia, 74,1% of its package of shares is owned by
Flesh company, one of the largest oil traders of the country, and
25%+1 share belongs to EBRD. The bank was re-registered from CJSC
into OJSC in August 2007 and became the third bank with public
status in the country. The key directions of the activity are:
serving corporate clients, financing small and medium business,
actively developing the retail business. Since May 2007 the bank has
carried out two issues of its own corporate bonds and it intends to
hold a new issue of securities. The bank is successfully developing
relations with international financial organizations. The national
rating agency AmRating/Global Rating provided the bank with ‘BB-‘
rating with "possible rising" outlook. Karina Melikyan, an analyst at
the agency, thinks that the bank’s rating is grounded by stable rates
and positive dynamics of development, maximal transparency, strong
support by the main shareholders, including EBRD, which participates
in the capital and thereby decreases the risk of dependence on one
shareholder. According to her, over the last half a year the bank
increased its share in the market by 2-3%, having ensured one of the
highest growth rates among the Armenian banks having similar level
of development.

prisoners because lack of proofs, according to Suren Surenyants,
member of Republic opposition party.

"Hearsay on amnesty gets stronger. I think the authorities will declare
amnesty," he said. "Release of our fellows is the main issue on the
agenda of the Armenian National Congress."

As to dialogue with the leadership, Surenyants said that "bridges are
burnt". "The political antagonism which emerged after March 1 events
still persists," he said.

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Saratov regional court has started a trial for 3
Saratov police agents: Korchagin, Ogoltsev, Churikov, charged with
a murder and burning the victim alive, court Press Secretary, Irina
Belyakova reported.

Jury trial was determined at the first sitting. Prosecutor voiced
the bill of particulars and the victim’s wife was interrogated.

On the night of October 28/29, 2008, the 3 policemen arrested RA
citizen Armen Gasparyan and forced him to confess to having robbed
gold decorations. As a matter of fact, the person arrested had not
even witnessed the crime. Unable to extort confessions, they beat
him to death and then moved his body to a forest plantation to burn
it with petrol.
