reported at the June 10 press conference. According to him, a stormy

in particular, extreme approaches on extending the amnesty to people
arrested on cases of 2008 March 1 events were voiced. H. Hovhannisian
said that some Council members spoke against granting an amnesty to
participants of mass disorders and some were unequivocally for. As a
result, according to H. Hovhannisian, it was decided for the purpose
of sowing solidarity and tolerance in society to propose the President
extending the amnesty to people arrested on the March 1 cases, as well.

PC will propose not granting an amnesty to people, who did not serve
punishment in the past by amnesty, but again committed a crime in
the future. Besides, according to H. Hovhannisian, no amnesty should
be granted to persons convicted for grave crimes, as well as for
rigging elections.

As to proper amnesty, according to PC representative, it can be
expressed by three ways: release of a prisoner, reduction of the
punishment term, change of kind of punishment.

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ The first concert within `Perspectives XXI’ 10th
International Music Festival framework was held 10 years ago – on
Oct. 25, 1999. On the same day of 2009, Yerevan will host a Jubilee
gala concert.

`4-hour festive concert will feature performances of world known
musicians,’ Festival Managing Director, Sona Hovhannesyan told today’s
news conference.
`Perspectives XXI’ 10th International Music Festival organizers chose
the biggest concert hall in Armenia for jubilee concert, although
acoustics in the hall is not meant for classical concerts.
`Even the large concert hall we chose is too small for a concert which
will host dozens of outstanding musicians. But inviting music virtuosi
in Armenia and not giving Armenian audience a chance to attend the
unique concert would be unfair,’ Festival Chairman and Art Director,
composer Stepan Rostomyan noted.
`Perspectives XXI’ 10th International Music Festival jubilee will host
representatives of European royal families and music festival agents
of world importance.
`We’re trying to give Armenian composers and musicians a chance to
gain world popularity.
Modern classical music created in Armenia never goes beyond the
country, whereas this music deserves more – it deserves world
acknowledgement,’ Festival Art Director noted.
