Politician: This is a watershed moment for Armenia

ARMINFO
Armenia – Aug 25 2022

ArmInfo.. Armenia does not have such a task as spoiling or worsening relations with Russia at all. I think that an elementary calculation of our available resources  speaks in favor of this opinion. Leader of the Just Armenia Party  Norayr Norikyan expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.

"I believe that no one needs a new enemy in the person of Russia in  Armenia, which is already surrounded by enemies. Taking into account  our extremely limited resources, the formation of anti-Armenian  sentiments in the Russian Federation is certainly not in our  interests. It is in our interests only to set and implement the task  of regulating relations with Moscow within the red lines of Yerevan.  I have been repeating this since 2018," he said.

The politician is convinced that the task of the political elite of  Armenia, starting from the Velvet Revolution itself, should have been  to prevent Moscow from considering other countries, primarily  Azerbaijan, as an alternative strategic ally. Accordingly, given the  failure of this task, in his opinion, now the leadership of Armenia  needs to work on its mistakes. In order to understand where exactly  the errors took place.  Noting that Armenia today is in a virtual  state of external dependence, Norikyan stressed that the country has  very few alternative opportunities. In his opinion, the need to make  every effort to completely eliminate the corridor logic in the  process of providing Azerbaijan with communication routes with  Nakhichevan and Turkey comes from here.

In his opinion, the situation today is truly critical and fateful.  This is a watershed moment for Armenia.  Based on a number of  international and domestic alarms, it becomes clear that the issue of  the corridor is extremely acute for Armenia today. And the leadership  of Armenia will have to make a fateful decision.

"We see that the Pashinyan government is trying to put forward an  alternative to the corridor logic. But it is clear that the idea of a  corridor will not be abandoned so easily by Ankara or Baku. One way  or another, we should convey to the world that regardless of who is  in power in Armenia, we do not intend to agree to corridor logic. The  establishment of a corridor in Syunik means the loss of Armenian  sovereignty in relation to this region," the politician summed  up.

YEREVAN, AUGUST 24, ARMENPRESS. The Artsakh Information Center commented on the Azerbaijani media reports about the visit of the employees of the Azerbaijan "Amelioration and Water Management" Company to the Sarsang reservoir with the participation of representatives of the Artsakh Republic, which caused certain concerns and questions among the public.

“Yesterday, on August 22, the Azerbaijani media published information about the visit of the employees of the Azerbaijan "Amelioration and Water Management" Company to the Sarsang reservoir with the participation of representatives of the Artsakh Republic, which caused certain concerns and questions among the public.

In this regard, we inform you that considering the situation created after the 44-day war of 2020, in order to manage water resources and ensure the safety of drinking and irrigation water supplied to the public, the representatives of the Water Committee of the Artsakh Republic, with the mediation of the Russian peacekeeping troops deployed in Artsakh, have been in contact with the Azerbaijani side since 2021 and make periodic visits to the areas under the control of Azerbaijan to reach mutual agreements on the use of drinking and irrigation water supplied to a number of communities of the Republic (Stepanakert, inclusive) and settle some issues.

Within that framework, another meeting was organized near the Sarsang reservoir to discuss the issue of use of Sarsang waters on mutually beneficial terms. Ideas on the possible options for rational use of water were exchanged on the spot, taking into consideration the control of the Artsakh Republic over the Sarsang reservoir, and the control of Azerbaijan over the irrigation infrastructures. In the near future, discussions will continue and decisions will be made in the interests of the Artsakh Republic, based on the needs of both electricity generation and irrigation in the Sarsang region, as well as drinking and irrigation water needs in other parts of the Republic.

Although we understand the criticism addressed to the state structures of the Artsakh Republic, we would like to inform that the authorities of Artsakh do not seek to hide any event, they are guided merely by the interest of the Artsakh Republic and the people of Artsakh, tactfully taking all possible measures in the current situation to increase the level of security of the state and the public and neutralize the phenomena causing tension”, the statement says.

Azerbaijan announces completion of road bypassing Lachin

Caucasian Knot
Aug 11 2022
The construction of the road along the new route of the Lachin Corridor is over. The highway is ready for traffic, Baku has announced.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that amid the construction of a road, alternative to the Lachin Corridor, which was set up by the Aliev-Pashinyan-Putin agreement, the conflict has escalated. The transfer of Lachin (the Armenian name is Berdzor) under Azerbaijan's control was delayed in 2020 due to the absence an alternative road from Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia. Residents of the communities of Akhavno, Sus and Berdzor were ordered to leave their houses until August 25, since the Lachin Corridor will be transferred to Azerbaijan.

The construction of a road along the new route of the Lachin Corridor to bypass the city of Lachin, which was launched in July 2021, has been completed, the State Automobile Roads Agency of Azerbaijan has reported.

The Ministry for Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Nagorno-Karabakh has clarified that the part of the alternative road from Kanach Tala-Mets Shen-Khin Shen of the Shushi District of Nagorno-Karabakh to the Armenian border is ready. As to the 11-kilometre section of the road from the Armenian border to the village of Kornidzor in Armenia, a tender has been announced for the construction thereof, and soon three companies will start building this road section.

Yerevan, Gyumri and Vanadzor have worst air pollution in Armenia, warns deputy environment minister

 14:25, 8 August 2022

YEREVAN, AUGUST 8, ARMENPRESS. The air pollution in Yerevan and other cities in Armenia reached concerning levels, the Deputy Minister of Environment Gayane Gabrielyan said at a news conference.

“In Yerevan, we have both functioning mines and active construction works,” she said. “Our biggest problem is the dust and the bad situation with air pollution. You don’t have to install equipment to understand the situation. People open up their windows and a short time later their home gets dirty, the cars get dirty faster and so on. These are simple, household indicators. One of the reasons is the construction boom in Yerevan. On one hand its good, investments and jobs, but on the other hand the construction businesses aren’t maintaining the requirements. We don’t need any new laws or changes. The current law envisages the necessary requirements and norms, but the construction workers are ignoring them,” Gabrielyan said.

Gabrielyan said it is the inspection agency’s job to monitor the situation, but they in turn need huge resources to supervise everyone. She said that the construction businesses themselves must maintain the requirements.

The air pollution levels are high in Gyumri and Vanadzor as well. Overall, Yerevan, Gyumri and Vanadzor now have the worst air pollution in the entire country, already categorized in the “red zone”.

The main reasons are construction, mining and the open burning of landfills.  “The open burning of landfills, waste is inadmissible. This is a serious hazard for health. We have a lot of work to do in raising awareness here,” she said.
