"According to information from unofficial sources, Azerbaijan intends to provoke new military clashes in Artsakh and on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. Manifestations of that we see today at the Nakhichevan section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. Incidents provoked by Azerbaijan do not allow us to start working on the delimitation and demarcation of the border," Pashinyan said.

Armenia is ready to resume the negotiation process on the final settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group, he added, TASS reported.

"The use of force and massive crimes cannot help resolve the Karabakh conflict, the settlement of which is possible only through negotiations under the auspices of the only format with an international mandate – the OSCE Minsk Group. I have already stated several times that Armenia is ready to resume the negotiation process in accordance with the items of the April 13 statement of the Minsk Group," Pashinyan said.

Baku and Yerevan have disputed the ownership of the region since February 1988. The OSCE Minsk Group, co-chaired by Russia, the United States, and France, was created as a format for finding ways to peacefully resolve the conflict. It also includes Belarus, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Finland, Turkey, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.

The situation in the conflict zone around Nagorno-Karabakh escalated on September 27. After a month and a half of fighting in the conflict zone, on November 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint statement on the complete cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh.

On April 13, Aliyev said he expects proposals from the Minsk Group on its further functioning and noted that it could play a positive role in the further establishment of a peaceful life in the region. On the same day, the Minsk Group called on the parties to refrain from mutual accusations and begin preparations for constructive negotiations.

U.S.-Turkey Trade Summit Cancelled over Armenian Genocide Deniers

A discussion between California business leaders, the state’s Lieutenant Governor, and Turkish business leaders has been cancelled following reports that two participants were vehement deniers of the Armenian Genocide, The Sun reported on Friday.

According to The Sun, a San Joaquin Valley-based publication, the event, organized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce as part of its U.S.-Turkish Business Council, was set to feature a keynote address from Lt. Governor Eleni Kounalakis and a presentation from the state’s economic development department before a panel discussion.

Turkish Chamber official Ayhan Zeytinoğlu and Turkisk Orange County businessman Ergun Kirlikovali were also on the agenda. The Sun was the first to report on the statements made by
Zeytinoğlu and Kirlikovali denying the Genocide.

In a statement on Friday, Kounalakis’ spokeswoman said that the lieutenant governor, along with California GO-Biz officials, and all other California business leaders participating on the panel had withdrawn from the event, forcing a cancellation.

In a statement issued to The Sun, Kounalakis said participation ran counter to the state’s values relative to human rights issues.

“I was deeply disturbed to hear that the upcoming U.S.-Turkish Business Council meeting would feature panelists who are Armenian Genocide deniers,” Kounalakis said. “Now and always, California stands strong on the side of truth and justice for this still-unpunished crime.”

“In line with congressional resolutions specifically rejecting attempts to deny the Armenian Genocide, along with California’s long-standing policy calling for justice for this unpunished crime, we alerted Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis to the fact that prominent Genocide deniers had been added as panelists to this event. We are grateful for her swift and decisive action withdrawing State participation, canceling the event and preventing denialists from having this public forum,” said Nora Hovsepian, chair of the Armenian National Committee of America-Western Region board of directors.

YEREVAN, JUNE 21, ARMENPRESS. Caretaker Prime Minister of Armenia, head of ''Civil Contract'' Party Nikol Pashinyan made two calls and proposals addressed to all the participants of the political process, ARMENPRESS reports Pashinyan spoke at the rally of ''Civil Contract'' Party at the Republican Square.

‘’The people of Armenia has made a decision. The people of Armenia has created a new political reality and situation. And the first point of that situation is the following. I urge all political forces, public activists to start from a simple point – put an end to insulting one another. And first of all I call on our political supporters that we put an end to insulting others, because a new page in the history of Armenia and Artsakh opens and we should start that new page from the consolidation of national and public consolidation’’, Pashinyan said.

He admitted that for some objective or subjective reasons he himself could not avoid such moods. ''But I am the first to assume that commitment and call on all our supporters to put an end to insulting others, unnecessary aggressiveness and antagonism, because we are facing serious challenges and we have to open the new bright page of state building'', he said.

Pashinyan added that this does not mean that they will step back from any obligation they have assumed in front of the people, adding that there will be indisputable legality, rule and order in Armenia.

Speaking about the second proposal, Pashinyan reminded returning to the people what has been looted from them has always been an urgent agenda of their government. He underlined that during the last 3 years they did not take anything from anyone by force, wishing that institutions should operate in the country that would not be influenced by individuals. Pashinyan reminded that the mechanism for confiscation of illegal property is launched and will inevitably operate.

Pashinyan suggested to all those who have illegal property can negotiate with the government and return the theft on their own. ''And I urge them not to miss the opportunity and not delay it until the state mechanisms start operating. I urge them to immediately start negotiations for returning the theft, which will serve the social-economic agenda of Armenia'', Pashinyan said.

Armenian Caucus demands U.S. sanctions on Turkey and Azerbaijan ahead of Biden-Erdogan meeting

Panorama, Armenia

Congressional Armenian Caucus leaders on Friday called on President Biden to confront Turkey’s President Erdogan during their upcoming June 14th meeting, pressing him to tell the Turkish leader that the U.S. will “withhold security aid and implement targeted economic sanctions unless Azerbaijani forces are removed from Armenian territory and all remaining Armenian detainees and prisoners of war are released from Azerbaijani custody,” reported the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA).

In a June 11th letter, Congressional Armenian Caucus leaders Frank Pallone (D-NJ), Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), Jackie Speier (D-CA), David Valadao (R-CA), and Adam Schiff (D-CA), wrote “precedent shows that Erdogan and Aliyev will not halt their destabilizing actions and violations of international law until the United States takes significant action to hold them accountable.”

The letter continues, “Erdogan’s assistance during the war proved decisive as Azerbaijani forces were able to make rapid advances with the aid of Turkish-backed foreign mercenaries, many alleged to have ties with internationally recognized terrorist groups, Bayraktar TB2 strike drones that utilize American components and technology, and heavy weaponry, including the potentially illegal use of cluster and white phosphorus munitions.” Evidence of the presence of U.S. parts in Bayraktar drones can be found at anca.org/proof.

The Congressional Armenian Caucus letter concludes, “Without strong American leadership, Turkey and Azerbaijan will continue to violate human rights and undermine democracy while destabilizing the region. The United States must make clear that there are consequences for these hostile activities.”

Earlier this week, the ANCA joined with In Defense of Christians (IDC) and the Hellenic American Leadership Council (HALC) in urging President Biden to press President Erdogan to stop arming Azerbaijan and end all U.S. military assistance to the Aliyev regime.

“President Biden will be tested on his support for Christian Armenians in his meeting next week with Turkish President Erdogan,” the ANCA, IDC, and HALC wrote in a joint statement. “This past April President Biden pivoted from honestly recognizing the Armenian Genocide to recklessly green-lighting U.S. military aid to a Turkish ally – oil-rich Azerbaijan – that’s hell-bent on completing this crime. Next week, President Biden needs to talk-the-talk by publicly calling on Erdogan to stop arming Azerbaijan, and walk-the-walk by cutting off his own Administration’s military aid to the Azerbaijani armed forces.”

The Biden-Erdogan meeting comes as Turkey continues to support Azerbaijan’s ongoing aggression against Armenia, as up to 1,000 Azerbaijani soldiers continue to occupy border areas in Armenia’s southern Gegharkunik and Syunik provinces. Seven months after the November 9th ceasefire, Azerbaijan also continues to illegally hold and torture over 200 Armenian prisoners of war. Congressional Armenian Caucus leaders have introduced legislation – H.Res.240 – condemning Azerbaijan and calling for the immediate release of Armenian POWs. Advocates can call on their U.S. Representatives to support passage of the measure by visiting anca.org/prisoners.

The Armenian Legal Center for Justice and Human Rights (ALC) has partnered with the International & Comparative Law Center (ICLaw) based in Yerevan, Armenia, to file cases and advocate before the European Court of Human Rights on behalf of Armenian POWs taken captive by Azerbaijan. Last month, ALC and ICLaw published a list of 19 Armenian POWs who were alive in captivity and subsequently tortured, abused and murdered by Azerbaijan. The list of 19 murdered Armenian POWs includes seven elderly, three disabled and 13 civilians.

Transcaucasian Trail route across Armenia to launch on June 14

Public Radio of Armenia

The Transcaucasian Trail route will be launched on June 14. To celebrate the successful creation of the Transcaucasian Trail route, an international team of experienced hikers will walk 832km across Armenia over the course of 40 days of unsupported hiking.

The hiking starts from Lake Arpi on 14 June and ends in the town of Meghri, Armenia’s southern gateway.

The Transcaucasian Trail (TCT) will be a world-class, long-distance hiking trail of more than 3,000km in length, following the Greater and Lesser Caucasus Mountains and connecting roughly two dozen national parks and protected areas in the region.

The TCT is being developed by three partner organizations: the U.S.-based Transcaucasia Trail Association, the TCT Armenia NGO, and the TCT Georgia NGO.

This world-class hiking experience aims to increase the economic opportunities for local communities by providing low-impact access to cultural sites and protected areas in the region. The trail through Armenia is also an archaeological route that brings the history of Armenia to life and puts the country on the international hiking map.
