DILIJAN, JUNE 22, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian government is ready to support everyone’s individual efforts aimed at contributing to the country’s economic development, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in his remarks at the My Step For Tavush Province business forum in Dilijan town on June 22.

The Forum is attended by more than 300 delegates from a dozen countries.

“Why we are holding such forums? What is our main and key goal? Our main goal is to promote and encourage the individual effort by contributing to Armenia’s development. We are confident that the individual effort of the Armenian citizen is the turning point through which Armenia will raise to a new level”, the PM said.

He clarified what he means by saying an individual effort. He said by saying an individual effort he means Artak Chibukhchyan who in one day made a decision to come to Armenia from Russia to create a reality in the village of Yenokavan which must change both the village’s life and Armenia’s image. By saying an individual effort the PM means the founders of the Karahunj winehouse who came from the Diaspora and created a new reality in Armenia.

“By saying an individual effort I mean the Hayrapetyan Brothers CJSC which manages Lake Parz for many years by creating a new business culture. I mean a businessman from Ijevan Andranik Ghazaryan who reached success in Ukraine, returned to Armenia and soon thanks to him a new proposal will be made in Ijevan’s real estate market in the form of multi-apartment building”, Nikol Pashinyan said.

The PM said the government is seeking to create opportunities for the people to reveal and use their talents. Pashinyan noted that for this education, business ecosystem of course are important, but stated that the aforementioned persons achieved their success not so easy, they also overcame certain difficulties.

PM Pashinyan informed that according to the data provided by the Central Bank, the amount of reserved dollar has reached 171 million. It increased by 40 million USD in three days. “This means that money is circulated in Armenia, the blood vessels of the economy have opened, therefore we need a victory of an individual effort. The key mission of the government is to encourage the people to believe in their talents and capacities. It was possible to reach impossible political changes in Armenia with word and idea. We believe in the citizens of Armenia and thank those persons who have put a stone on the stone in our country. They are the heroes of our time”, Nikol Pashinyan added.

Sports: Star’s humanity a lesson for sports’ greedy chiefs

DAILY MAIL (London)

STAR'S HUMANITY A LESSON FOR SPORT'S GREEDY CHIEFS

BY IAN HERBERT

It's the memory of Henrikh Mkhitaryan's understated pride in his own country which makes you rage against the way that football's governors noses in the trough again have seen to it that he will not play in one of Europe's showpiece events.

Mkhitaryan's time in Manchester was not the happiest, though far less appreciated was the part he played in the local Armenian community. It wasn't just his willingness to stop for photographs at the Armenian Taverna, on the city's Princess Street, but his interest in the lives of those in that community. He was one of them.

That kind of humanity is a very long way from sport's cynical willingness to be bought off by the despicable leaders of Azerbaijan a country which imprisons journalists, persecutes dissidents and has displayed a breathtaking contempt for the human rights of those from Armenia.

The case of an Azerbaijani army henchman, Ramil Safarov, says everything. Safarov broke into the room of an Armenian army lieutenant, Gurgen Margaryan, during a NATO-sponsored training seminar in Budapest 15 years ago and axed the man to death. He was convicted of first degree murder in Hungary, yet somehow secured extradition to Azerbaijan.

He received a hero's welcome, was pardoned, given an apartment and eight years' back pay. This is the country from which sporting organisations have queued up to take cash.

Mkhitaryan's sister, Monica, works for UEFA. His mother, Marina, works for the Armenian FA. Arsenal are incandescent.

They should have known they were talking to a wall.

UEFA has already granted Baku matches at Euro 2020. Demands that the decision be reversed have reached a new pitch but don't hold your breath. When the sense of collective indignation has subsided, the gravy train will quietly move on.

YEREVAN, MAY 10, ARMENPRESS. The May 10 Cabinet meeting featured some noteworthy debates regarding wildlife preservation, as the Government of Armenia approved to bring forward a proposal on enforcing a 100,000,000 dram fine for poaching of the endangered Caucasian leopard.

Moreover, National Security Service Director Arthur Vanetsyan, who was in attendance, suggested to enforce a 3-5 year total nationwide hunting ban.

“Let’s ban hunting for 3 to 5 years in Armenia in order for the wildlife population to be restored. I myself was a very active hunter in the past, but I haven’t hunted for already 6-7 years and I am speaking about this all the time. Let’s introduce this initiative, let’s ban hunting generally, and for the ban to be not only through these laws that we are adopting, but also, for example, by a temporary ban on hunting cartridges. Because they are doing irregular hunting,” Vanetsyan said.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan tasked to deal with the matter, but to study the issue comprehensively.

“We must do something like that because this idea is a very good and appropriate one. But we must look at this problem comprehensively. I suppose there are animals whose population is of no problem. Let us carry out an expert study”, he said.

‘Armenia-Artsakh Strategic Treaty’ Forum Takes Place in Stepanakert

Participants of the Armenia-Artsakh Strategic Treaty Forum in Stepanakert on May 7

Dozens of political, military and civil society experts gathered in Stepanakert Tuesday to address the Armenia-Artsakh Strategic Treaty, an issue that has been discussed for several years, without fruition, and to emphasize the importance of drafting and signing such a document as a lever to advance the security of Armenia and Artsakh, as well as to further efforts to garner international recognition for the Artsakh Republic.

The forum, organized by the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, took place in the chambers of the Artsakh National Assembly, whose speaker Ashot Ghulyan welcomed the participants to Stepanakert and emphasized the importance of the forum as a means to further strengthen Armenia and Artsakh.

Ghulyan pointed that it is impossible to envision Armenia without Artsakh and Artsakh without Armenia, saying this cohesion strengthens Armenian capabilities and inspires confidence in the future, while at the same time buttressing the security of both republics.

Armenia-Artsakh Strategic Treaty is envisioned to be a document that will legally cement Armenia’s continued support for Artsakh and clearly delineate the parameters of cooperation in economic, social, political and military realms.

The participants of the forum were members of political parties represented within and outside of both the Armenian and Artsakh parliaments, as well as political and military experts who currently or in the past have had a direct role from the onset of the Artsakh Liberation Movement.

The forum provided an opportunity to exchange views on the matter and to assess the scope of issues that would be included in an eventual Armenia-Artsakh Strategic Treaty.

ARF Bureau President Armen Rustamyan told the forum that at the current stage of the Karabakh conflict resolution process, the adoption of such a document would not only advance the agenda of peace, but would also become a tool to guarantee the security of both Armenia and Artsakh, given that since the signing of the Karabakh cease fire agreement in May 1994, Armenia has assumed the role of not just caretaker, but also the sole entity that has maintained the security and stability of the region.

He emphasized that the treaty must be viewed from the perspective of guaranteeing Armenia’s and Artsakh collective security, safety and defense in various spheres by delineating the relations between the two republics based on critical national interests and ideals.

The imperative for drafting and implementing a collective treaty was also emphasized by the ARF Bureau’s political affairs director Giro Manoyan, who pointed out that while such a document might not be welcomed by the Karabakh conflict resolution mediators—the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs—past events, such as the 2016 April War, have shown that postponing this effort would not be beneficial to the advancement of a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

“We have no right to blame others, if we do not show determination,” said Manoyan. “Such a step will defend the rights of Artsakh’s population and will substantiate legal concerns such as the deployment of soldiers from Armenia on the frontlines.”

During his presentation, Artsakh’s Human Rights Defender Artak Beglaryan said that the issues must be viewed from the perspective that the ultimate goal is the reunification of Artsakh and Armenia.

“The treaty is not a goal, but a means to achieve the goals. There is consensus on the goal—the final goal of reunification with Armenia. There is no consensus on the method of achieving it. Is it through independence or direct reunification?” said Beglaryan.

The human rights defender, who is also known as the ombudsman said that Armenia and Artsakh do not have sufficient external clout to counter what he called “sharp turns,” saying that preparations for a final treaty document could signal the expectations to the international community.

He emphasized that Azerbaijan is advancing through its own strategy, in which relations between Armenia and Artsakh are irrelevant.

Also among the speakers at the forum was former ARF Bureau chairman Hrant Markarian who warned of a danger looming around Artsakh and the Karabakh conflict resolution process.

“The danger is that some Armenians believe Artsakh is a burden and that it is necessary to lift that burden as soon as possible,” said Markarian, adding that there are also people who believe Artsakh is an opportunity for Armenians to become strong.
“Artsakh will help us develop the Armenian economy and liberate Gandzak and Nakhichevan. Artsakh is vital for Armenia’s existence. We can enhance the country, but we can’t do it by making concessions. Even the smallest concession will lead us to doom. This doesn’t mean we shouldn’t negotiate. Even if Azerbaijan makes a concession, we must realize that this conflict is eternal,” added Markarian, saying that all Armenians need to unite as one, become organized and win this battle for our nation’s existence, even if it takes centuries.

At the conclusion of the forum, a 15-member organizing committee was chosen to review the presentations and prepare a declaration based on them.

The body is comprised of the following individuals: Vartkes Baghryan (Armenia), Gagik Petrosyan (Artsakh), Davit Ishkhanyan (Artsakh), Armen Rustamyan (Armenia), Giro Manoyan (Armenia), Ishkhan Saghatelyan (Armenia), Gegham Manukyan (Armenia), Davit Shahnazaryan (Armenia), Sergey Bagratyan (Armenia), Gegham Nazaryan (Armenia), Ruben Melikyan (Armenia), Masis Abrahamian (Netherlands), Seyran Baghdasaryan (Russia), Melik Karakavorian (Lebanon) and Vache Thomassian (United States).

Harris, Colleagues Introduce Bipartisan Senate Resolution Affirming U.S. Recognition of Armenian Genocide

Senate.gov – California Senator Kamala D. Harris
April 12 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Kamala D. Harris (D-CA), joined Senators Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Ted Cruz (R-TX), along with 13 of their colleagues, on Tuesday in introducing a Senate resolution to ensure the foreign policy of the United States reflects appropriate understanding and sensitivity concerning the Armenian Genocide. Carried out by the Ottoman Empire from 1915 to 1923, the Armenian Genocide resulted in the forced deportation of nearly 2 million Armenians, of whom 1.5 million were killed.

“We must always speak uncomfortable truths about the past, lest we repeat it,” said Senator Harris. “In recognizing the Armenian Genocide, one of humanity’s darkest chapters, we honor those who list their lives to hate and reaffirm our commitment to defending human rights wherever they are threatened.”

Joining Harris, Menendez and Cruz in introducing the Resolution were Senators Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Ed Markey (D-MA), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Gary Peters (D-MI), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Ron Wyden (D-OR), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Jack Reed (D-RI), Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Cory Gardner (R-CO), and Tom Udall (D-NM).
