Russia says it works with Turkey to achieve ceasefire in Karabakh

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 3, ARMENPRESS. Russia will continue cooperating with Turkey and use its entire influence in the region to prevent a military solution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview to Komersant newspaper.

Lavrov said that Moscow and Ankara are close partners and are able to display a flexible and pragmatic approach and cooperate with each other in a strategic vision.

He pointed out Syria and Libya to be the obvious examples of practical and substantive cooperation between the Russian and Turkish diplomats, militaries and intelligence agencies.

“The situation in case of Nagorno Karabakh principally differs, and I’ve partially spoken about this in my answers to the previous questions. I repeat, we have never hidden and we aren’t hiding that we are not in favor of a solution to the crisis by force, we seek a speedy halt in combat operations,” Lavrov said.

Lavrov emphasized that both the parties to the conflict, as well as their foreign partners should steadily adhere to the agreements on ceasefire, the creation of verification mechanisms and the re-launch of substantive negotiations by a concrete timetable.

“And although it wasn’t possible to achieve a stable ceasefire at once, we will continue using our entire influence in the region, we will work with our Turkish colleagues, in order to stop the further development of a military scenario, so that dialogue gets established between the sides, and so that we convince Baku and Yerevan to come to the negotiations table,” Lavrov said.

After Anti-Armenian Vandalism, France Bans Turkey’s Grey Wolves

Armenia’s Foreign Ministry condemns attacks

After anti-Armenian incidents in Lyon, France stretching over the end of last week, compounded by killing of innocent civilians in Nice, France’s Interior Minister announced Monday that his country is taking steps to ban the Turkey’s ultra-right wing Grey Wolves organization, which has ties to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Turkey.

Last Wednesday, pro-Artsakh protesters were stabbed by pro-Turkey assailants. Over the weekend, the Armenian Genocide memorial in Lyon, as well as Armenia’s Consulate General building in that city were vandalized with anti-Armenian graffiti that included slogans such as “Grey Wolves” and “RTE,” in reference to Erdogan.

France moved to outlaw the Wolves organization, with French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announcing the proposal that is scheduled to be discussed on Wednesday.

“We strongly condemn the act of vandalism against the building of the Consulate General of Armenia in the city of Lyon, which was preceded by tincidents of desecration of the Armenian monuments in other cities of France and the massive anti-Armenian actions by the Turkish extremist organizations in recent months on the grounds of hatred,” said a statement on Monday by Armenia’s Foreign Ministry.

“The note on the building of the Consulate General of the Republic of Armenia is especially stark, as it contains a threat of recurrence of the Armenian Genocide and the glorification of the current Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan,” added the ministry.

“It is not accidental that such threats are being voiced against the people of Armenia when the Turkish-Azerbaijani genocidal alliance, with the involvement of the international terrorist fighters, is attempting to annihilate the Armenians in Artsakh,” said the foreign ministry. “We are convinced that the French authorities will hold the perpetrators of this vandalism and the extremist forces behind them accountable.”

Armenian demonstrators move through Toronto in car convoy to protest war

Toronto.com, Canada
Nov 1 2020
News 12:08 PM by Mike Adler

Young Armenian-Canadians will drive through major Toronto streets on Sunday, Nov. 1, in a demonstration meant to draw attention to the war over Nagorno-Karabakh.

“We all know someone who has died or someone who has been injured,” said Karnie Iskedjian, a participant in what’s expected to be a 500-car convoy.

The “drive-a-thon” is scheduled to leave the Armenian Community Centre of Toronto, near Sheppard Avenue East and Victoria Park Avenue, at 1 p.m.

Organizers say earlier car rallies on Oct. 3 and Oct. 18 were not as large and their routes weren’t as long.

The demonstrators won’t be trying to block traffic, they say.

Though born in Canada, Iskedjian said it’s heartbreaking to wake up to social media reports about Armenian casualties in Azerbaijan and Armenia’s conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, a disputed region inside Azerbaijan controlled by Armenians, who call it the Republic of Artsakh.

The North York woman said Armenians are “indigenous to the land” in Artsakh, which Iskedjian wants Canada to recognize as a nation.

Turkey supports Azerbaijan in the fighting over Nagorno-Karabakh, where Armenian control continued after a war ended in 1994.

Iskedjian acknowledged other Canadians don’t know much about the conflict, recalling many approached demonstrator’s cars during the Oct. 3 rally, “and asked what was going on.” She said the current fighting “is just the continuation of the genocide” perpetrated against Armenians by Turkey a century ago.

The Nov. 1 demonstration is organized by the United Armenian Council of Ontario, a coalition of Armenian organizations.

“I don’t think you have to be Armenian to care,” said Marianne Davitjan, a spokesperson.

“Everybody in our community is impacted by the war that’s going on.”

Check Out This Armenian Flag-Themed Widebody Lamborghini Urus

Check Out This Armenian Flag-Themed Widebody Lamborghini Urus

BY Brad Anderson | Posted on

In a bid to support their country of origin, Armenia, in the ongoing conflict with Azerbaijan over the over the enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh that has cost the lives of hundreds of soldiers as well as civilians on both sides, the guys over at RDBLA have created a widebody Lamborghini Urus unlike any other.

The LA-based tuning company has a wealth of experience working on Lamborghini’s super SUV and with this example, has installed a wrap with the colors of the Armenian flag.

As the popularity of aftermarket wraps has increased, more complex and intricate wrap designs have started to appear. This particular wrap is especially striking and sees the top half of the Urus finished in red, including the hood and the pillars. The red then transitions through a purple section and into a bright shade of blue that covers part of the front bumper, the middle of the doors, and the tailgate at the rear. This shade of blue then transitions into orange across the lower portion of the bodywork, representing the red, blue, and orange of the Armenian flag.

Various other modifications have been made to the Lamborghini. For example, it sits on aftermarket wheels that are finished in silver on the passenger side and black on the driver’s side. There is also a wild aftermarket bodykit that includes forged carbon fender flares that further add to the aggressive of the potent SUV. It is a serious eye-catcher and will no doubt turn a lot of heads when driven throughout the City of Angels.

Armenian friends need your help

Daily Californian
Oct 27 2020

“If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.”

You will often see Armenians post this quote from Desmond Tutu on social media or write it on their posters as a tool of advocacy for official U.S. recognition of the 1915 Armenian genocide. Armenians are a small, mostly Christian ethnic minority that has existed for more than 4,000 years. Through past colonization and territorial aggression, Armenia has lost much of its land, and millions of Armenians have lost their lives. Despite these losses, Armenians in Armenia, and those part of the larger diaspora, have gained a sense of ethnic identity and love for their culture.

It has been more than three weeks since conflicts arose between Armenia and its neighboring country Azerbaijan, with tensions between the countries now escalating into a full-scale war over the disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh, known in Armenian as Artsakh. This territory has historically been populated by ethnic Armenians and continues to be. Not only are Indigenous Armenians a religious minority in the Middle East, but they lack strong allyship in the region, making them vulnerable.

Recently, Azerbaijani drones were reported flying near Armenia’s capital of Yerevan, which would suggest that the dispute has expanded into Armenia proper. What is especially worrying to see is Turkey’s involvement in the conflict on the side of Azerbaijan, as well as its anti-Armenian rhetoric. Our country is outnumbered and up against two wealthy and militarily powerful countries

We also cannot forget the United States’ military ties with Turkey, which is a NATO ally and stores U.S. nuclear weapons. This might explain why the United States has never federally recognized the 1915 Armenian genocide and continues to remain neutral about the present conflict. Azerbaijan is backed by the Turkish government and Israeli weapons, and both Turkey and Israel have significant military funding and influence in the region. To make matters more complicated, Turkey has recruited Syrian rebel fighters as mercenaries in the conflict, making this an increasingly dangerous, globalized dispute.

Today, Turkey and Azerbaijan continue to threaten Armenia. Our soldiers are on the front lines, and ethnic Armenian officials report that more than 1,000 have died. They are our brothers, fathers, cousins and grandfathers. According to human rights organizations, civilians have also been targets of Azeri missiles through the bombing of infrastructure, which goes against international humanitarian law.

After enduring the intergenerational trauma of the 1915 genocide and the recurrence of similar attacks today, the members of our community cannot take any more. This is a humanitarian crisis impacting the lives of Armenians — and UC Berkeley students — around the world.

In addition to attacks in Armenia, Armenians all over the world have been victims of hate crimes, and many of our cultural centers and churches have been destroyed. We consider this issue to be one of Indigenous rights and the right to self-determination.

Our community in San Francisco has fallen victim to violent hate crimes, such as the burning of the cherished St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church’s community center. This is one of three hate crimes recorded in San Francisco since September alone. Armenian schools in San Francisco have also been vandalized with anti-Armenian graffiti. Armenians in San Francisco have reported their doors being marked with red X’s. However, rather than frightening us, these acts have brought the Armenian community closer together. We are more united and are working harder than ever before to make our voices heard.

Armenians desire nothing but peace, and we as a diaspora are trying to help our people from a distance. We have been protesting around the nation and have gained the support of thousands. People from campuses across California have spoken up, including UCLA, Loyola Marymount University, Occidental College and Cal State Northridge. It is disheartening to see our own school stay silent on the matter.

The city of Berkeley is known for its social justice activism and has been the epicenter of amplifying the voices of the unheard. Historically, UC Berkeley has spearheaded human rights movements — and this issue deserves nothing less than the support of its students. Ask any Armenian about what is going on, and you will feel our pain. Now, more than ever, we ask for your solidarity. We ask that you march with us, spread awareness on your social media accounts and sign petitions.

We hope to see UC Berkeley, a community we love, stand with us and with Armenians everywhere.

Ani Gevorkian and Sosse Krikorian are seniors at UC Berkeley and executive board members of the Armenian Students’ Association on campus.

CivilNet: Briefing from the Frontlines

CIVILNET.AM

03:05

Karabakh President Arayik Harutyunyan confirmed in a press briefing that Azerbaijan's attempts to secure the southern town of Hadrut following the ceasefire announcement have so far not succeeded. The town is currently under Armenian control but intense fighting continues in the area and the Azerbaijani forces are not far.

Artak Beglaryan, Karabakh Human Rights Defender, noted that on the morning of October 10, Azerbaijani forces entered Hadrut for a period of time and killed two residents in a home, a mother and her disbled son.

“I condemn the ongoing atrocities committed by Azerbaijani forces against Karabakh’s population and I demand the international community to respond adequately to this issue and to pursue punishment for the perpetrators," Beglaryan said.

Responding to a question about whether the Israeli government knows that its weapons are targeted towards civilians, the Karabakh President said that, "In April 2016 War, Israel had sent experts with the weapons so I am certain that the government of Israel is well aware."

Armenia's Ministry of Defense further noted that hostilities are also intensifying in Martakert and the whole southern region.

"The intensity of artillery fire has been calmer since the ceasefire announcement, but there is no decrease in use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles by Azerbaijan," said Armenia's Ministry of defense.

Armenian Prime Nikol Pashinyan echoed his calls for the recognition of Karakh's independence.

"Artsakh [Karabakh] must become a symbol of justice. The world must recognize Artsakh's right to self-determination. If governments are unable to do so, then recognition must come from individuals and organizations. This must become a global movement uniting individuals and organizations."

On the Azerbaijani side, publicist Zabil Magerramov, a member of the Azerbaijany’s Talysh minority community, has told Civilnet that Azerbaijan intentionally sends individuals from national minority groups to the frontline, “which is part of Aliyev’s greater plan of attempting to get rid of the Talysh issue in Azerbaijan.”

Magerramov says that the Talysh community maintains strong neutrality in the ongoing war in Nagorno Karabakh.

“We support the negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and have high hopes for Russia, which will make every effort to attain a peaceful and just settlement to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict," he noted.
