Prices of petrol and diesel fuel almost the same in Armenia and Georgia – SCPEC

The prices of petrol and diesel fuel in Armenia and Georgia are almost the same, but the pricing mechanisms are different, Artak Shaboyan – chairman of the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition (SCPEC), told reporters.

“Our studies show that the prices of petrol and diesel fuel in Armenia and Georgia are almost the same, but we need to take into account that there are pricing differences in these two countries. The petrol is imported to Armenia via Georgia through railway. The calculations show that the transportation costs greatly affect the petrol cost price”, Artak Shaboyan said. He stated that the geography of countries of import is also different. If Armenia conducts import mainly from Russia, Romania and Bulgaria, Georgia imports from Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.

Commenting on the change in price of petrol and diesel fuel in Armenia during 2017, in particular, on the increase of these prices, the official said this was conditioned by the increase in import prices.

This year as well a price increase in these commodity markets was recorded due to changes in tax rates.

Sports: Henrikh Mkhitaryan wanted by Inter Milan manager Luciano Spalletti in ‘exchange’ for Joao Mario

News.am, Armenia
Jan 3 2018
Inter have decided to take Henrikh Mkhitaryan, sending Joao Mario to Manchester United, the Corriere dello Sport reported.
Coach Luciano Spalletti was in a long meeting with directors on Tuesday to discuss transfer strategy for the January window.
Joao Mario is an issue, as he struggles for playing time and confidence, so a loan or even a sale is the most likely outcome.
Paris Saint-Germain are also known to be interested, but Inter have their sights set on Mkhitaryan.
The Armenia international turns 29 later this month and Manchester United paid €42m to sign him from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2016.
He does not seem to have settled in at Old Trafford, scoring two goals with six assists in 21 competitive games.
As Inter paid €40m for Joao Mario last summer, the idea would be to enact a straight swap.

Armenia’s freestyle wrestlers win more medals in 2017 than before

This year Volodya Frangulyan, Grigor Grigoryan and Levan Berianidze became bronze medalists of the European Championship. Berianidze and Georgi Ketoev also took the bronze in the World Championship.

“We didn’t manage to win so many medals in previous year. Our young and junior athletes also returned from European and World championships with medals, the only thing we didn’t get was gold,” said Kurghinyan, who had been appointed head coach in January.

Yesterday the Gnel Mejlumyan Memorial took place. The winners have secured a place in the national team.

On January 17, freestyle wrestlers will begin preparing for the European Championship in Russia. They will compete in several tournaments before that.

“We will mostly send to the championship the winners of Mejlumyan Memorial. In case of injuries or other problems, the runner-up athletes will substitute for them,” added Kurghinyan.

Azerbaijani Press: Turkey supports Azerbaijan-adopted formula of Karabakh conflict resolution

AzerNews, Azerbaijan
Dec 20 2017

By Rashid Shirinov

Armenia occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territory and its fault is undeniable, Turkish Foreign Minister Movlut Cavusoglu said on December 20.

He made the remarks at the press conference in Baku after meeting with his Azerbaijani and Iranian counterparts, APA reports.

Cavusoglu noted that everybody is aware of the Khojaly tragedy and reiterated that Turkey supports the formula of the conflict settlement adopted by Azerbaijan.

Armenia broke out a lengthy war against Azerbaijan by laying territorial claims on the country. Since a war in the early 1990s, Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions. More than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and over 1 million were displaced as a result of the large-scale hostilities.

To this day, Armenia has not implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding districts.

Cavusoglu also noted that Armenia should know how to behave with its neighbors: “We have put condition before Armenia to return the occupied territories. Only after this, our relations can be normalized.”

Answering the question about the protocols signed between Turkey and Armenia in Switzerland in 2009, the FM reminded that Armenia submitted them to its Constitutional Court, which, in turn, excluded some important articles from the documents.

“Until our condition is met, the implementation of this agreement is impossible,” Cavusoglu added.

The Armenian leadership has recently said it is going to cancel the protocols signed with Turkey until spring 2018.

Turkey and Armenia severed diplomatic relations in 1993 due to occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenian Armed Forces and Yerevan’s claims over recognition of the so-called Armenian genocide. Borders between Turkey and Armenia are still closed.

Turkey has always supported the resolution of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict based on Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and inviolability of the country's internationally recognized borders.
