The exhibition of paintings of American Armenian artist Arshile Gorky
was opened at George Pompidou Centre of Paris. Together with the
`Galust Gyulbenkyan ‘ establishment of Lisbon the Pompidou Centre
honors Arshile Gorky with an exhibition displaying his paintings of
1940s.

The exhibition has been organized in the framework of the Year of
Armenia in France. The opening ceremony was attended by the
Commissioner General for the Year of Armenia in France Nelly
Tardivier, Armenian Ambassador Edward Nalbandyan, and the delegation
of the `Galust Gyulbenkyan’ establishment and famous.

YEREVAN, MARCH 30, NOYAN TAPAN. In connection with approval of the
RA National Security Strategy by the Armenian president, Secretary
of the National Security Council under the Armenian president,
the RA Defence Minister Serge Sargsian sent letters of thanks to
the US Defence Secretary Robert Gates and the RF Security Council’s
Secretary Igor Ivanov for the methodological assistance provided
by the US National Defence University and the Russian Academy of
State Service under the Russian president in the interdepartmental
development of the RA National Security Strategy. Noyan Tapan was
informed about it from the RA Defence Ministry.

US Assistant Secretary of State Matthew Bryza is content with the
level of relations with the countries of the South Caucasus. In the
framework of this cooperation he emphasized the mission of the Georgian
peacekeepers in Iraq and the rearmament of the military airport of
Azerbaijan, "Trend" reports. Bryza underlined that the cooperation of
the United States with both Armenia and Azerbaijan is very vigorous,
active and practical especially in the security sphere. He stressed
also that many planes, including American ones, fly to Afghanistan
through the territories of Azerbaijan and Georgia. "In case of
emergency we would like to have the opportunity to use the military
airport of Azerbaijan for landing of our planes," Matthew Bryza noted.

EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby extended
condolences to Andranik Margaryan’s family, friends, RA Government, and
the whole Armenian nation. His letter says: "It was with great sorrow
that I learnt about the death of Andranik Margaryan. I have had many
opportunities to meet with him. He was a bright personality, a real
devotee of democracy and establishment of peace in the region. He had
a pivotal role in the establishment of firm and perspective relations
between Armenia and the European Union."

Sargsian’s appointment to RA Prime Minister’s post the situation in
the governmental field will become more clear and "everything will
settle," as indeed it was Serge Sargsian who implemented Prime
Minister’s functions before and the role of the late Andranik
Margarian was not so big. Aram Karapetian, Chairman of Nor Zhamanakner
(New Times) Party, expressed such opinion in his interview to Noyan
Tapan correspondent.

In his words, personally heading RPA, Serge Sargsian henceforth will
work more actively in the direction of making majority in the new
parliament. A. Karapetian also said that after the elections
A. Margarian’s role in the governmental pyramid was rather vague.

And the relations between the authorities and opposition, where A.
Margarian played the role of a softening instance, as NZ leader
forecast, will become aggravated for even more henceforth.

condolences because of decease of Armenian Prime Minister, Member of
Fund’s Council Andranik Margaryan.
"Hayastan" Fund’s press service reported that the leadership of the
Fund, in particular, expressed condolences to Margaryan’s family, his
relatives and party members.
"This is indeed a very big loss for the whole country," said the
condolences of the Fund.
Armenian Prime Minister, Chairman of the Republican Party Andranik
Margaryan died from heart attack at the age of 56 on Sunday morning.

French Pres Candidate: Turkey EU Membership to assist Recognition

new book from which Financial Times reprinted parts in its March 26
issue.

According to the newspaper, in the past Royal did not clearly express
her attitude towards the possible membership of Turkey, saying that
her position "is the same as the French people has."

On March 15 the Defender of Human Rights of Armenia Armen Harutiunian
met with the leaders of the organizations which conduct monitoring of
penitentiaries. From Karabakh the head of the Civic Action Center
Albert Voskanian participated in this meeting. The representatives of
international organizations were present as well. Albert Voskanian
told how the monitoring of the remand prison and the penitentiary is
organized. He underlined that the reports of the monitoring are
submitted with both the local governmental and non-governmental
organizations and international organizations, such as the CoE, the
OSCE, the International Committee of the Red Cross, Prison Reform
International, etc. Albert Voskanian said the Civic Action Center has
plans related to the appointment of the Defender of Human Rights of
NKR. He said it will enable to upgrade the human rights practices in
NKR.

Hope For The City Sends Valuable Airlift of Medical Aid to Armenia
‘Arabkir’ United Children’s Charity Foundation Is the Recipient of Hope
For The City’s Aid

Minneapolis, MN and Yerevan, Armenia – Hope For The City, working in close
collaboration with the United Armenian Fund and the Cafesjian Family
Foundation, delivered essential medical equipment, valued at around
$50,000 USD to the `Arabkir’ United Children’s Charity Foundation in
Yerevan, Armenia. The airlift arrived on March 17, 2007. Transportation
expenses were covered by the United Armenian Fund.

The airlift of medical equipment, including inhalers, is the second aid
sent to the `Arabkir’ United Children’s Charity Foundation by Hope For The
City. The first shipment consisting of medical equipment and supplies
arrived in August of 2006 and has been used for newly addressing both
medical and diagnostic needs.

`The received equipment is very essential for our patients. The inhalers
we used before were quite simple, however now we will be able to provide
better treatment to our patients,’ stated Spartak Ghazaryan, Board Member
of the `Arabkir’ United Children’s Charity Foundation and Director of the
"Arabkir" Joint Medical Centre & Institute of Child and Adolescent Health.
`We are very grateful to Hope For The City for this vital donation. We
thank the United Armenian Fund and The Cafesjian Family Foundation for
their support.’

Dennis and Megan Doyle, founders of Hope For the City and Board Members of
the Cafesjian Family Foundation, first visited Armenia in April of 2005.
Since this initial visit, Hope For The City has shipped over one million
dollars of aid from the United States to Armenia. Hope For The City,
working closely with the Cafesjian Family Foundation provides supplies and
other medical-technical assistance to selected organizations in Armenia.

Hope for the City is a privately funded, 501(c) 3 relief organization that
was established by Dennis and Megan Doyle in 2000 to fight poverty, hunger
and disease by utilizing corporate surplus. The US/Minnesota-based,
non-profit organization collects overstock products from top retailers,
medical companies, and food distributors nationwide and donates the items
to people in need locally, across the country and around the world. Since
its inception, Hope for the City has donated approximately $300 million
USD in wholesale value of goods.

The United Armenian Fund is a collective effort of the Armenian Assembly
of America, the Armenian General Benevolent Union, the Armenian Relief
Society, the Diocese of the Armenian Church of America, the Prelacy of the
Armenian Apostolic Church of America, and the Lincy Foundation. Since its
inception in 1989, the United Armenian Fund has sent over $421 million USD
of humanitarian assistance to Armenia on board 136 airlifts and 1,255 sea
containers.

The Cafesjian Family Foundation, Inc., was established in 1996 by Gerard
L. Cafesjian. The US based, non-profit organization supports a variety of
Armenian causes in Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh and the United States. A
primary focus of the Cafesjian Family Foundation is the security of
independent Armenia and the further development of a free, democratic
society through economic development and the strengthening of the
US/Armenia relationship.

The Italian Embassy in Armenia extended condolences to the Armenian
authorities and the whole Armenian nation connected with the untimely
loss of RA Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan, First Secretary of the
Italian Embassy in Yerevan Roberto Nocella told the reporters in
Yerevan.

`On behalf of the whole Italian nation and myself I convey sincere
condolences on this great loss,’ the Italian diplomat noted, adding
that the Italian Government will extend condolences to the Armenian
authorities on the official level.
