"Armenia" bloc on acting PM's Facebook live: This was direct campaigning using administrative levers

The official representative of the headquarters of "Armenia" bloc—led by second President Robert Kocharyan—, constitutional expert and lawyer Aram Vardevanyan issued a statement Saturday in connection with acting PM Nikol Pashinyan's Facebook live earlier in the day.

"Minutes ago, Nikol Pashinyan, a candidate for MP from the [ruling] Civil Contract Party, using his social status as the acting Prime Minister, made an announcement on his official Facebook page. With that, he issued a call and exhortation to "definitely" take part in the voting [in Sunday’s snap parliamentary elections].

First, the mentioned candidate violated the principle of observing the day of [election] silence. Second, using his status [as the acting PM]—the bodies of executive authorities’ service dependence on him—urged to take part in the vote, in the conditions when he is a candidate for prime minister of one of the 26 [political] forces.

This was a direct campaigning, with the use of administrative levers, allegedly assuming the function of the CEC [(Central Electoral Commission)].

We find that the CEC should immediately convene a session, and investigate—on the basis of this statement—this significant violation of the electoral process and which endangers its legality," Vardevanyan noted in his statement.

YEREVAN, JUNE 16, ARMENPRESS. Armenian and Swiss politicians, representatives of various organizations and members of the Armenian community have gathered amid the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Joe Biden, The meeting between the two Presidents is taking place at ''La Grange'' villa. The protesters are demanding the leaders of the great powers for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide and urged them to condemn the overt aggression of Azerbaijan against Armenia and Artsakh.

In an interview with ARMENPRESS, music producer Ani Gasparyan who lives in Switzerland and participated in the protest said that the members of the Swiss government have referred to the term ''genocide'' used by Biden and noted that the international community expects further practical steps.

The demonstrators spoke about the horrors of the 44-day Artsakh war, noting that Artsakh has lost human, territorial, as well as cultural values, while Azerbaijan continues to show aggression against the peoples of both Armenia and Artsakh, threatening their security. This is proved by the penetration of the Azerbaijani armed forces into the sovereign territory of Armenia in different directions since May 12.

The demonstrators called on the leaders of the superpowers to visit the monument dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in Geneva, not to forget the history, as there is a danger of its repetition.

123 intellectuals call for support to Armenia bloc

Panorama, Armenia

A total of 123 intellectuals on Wednesday called for support to the Armenia bloc led by second Armenian President Robert Kocharyan, stating it is capable of stopping the country’s collapse.

"The Armenian statehood is facing a serious challenge today. Due to the destructive policies of the ruling regime, a war was imposed on us with painful losses. As a result of the policies pursued for three years, our society is experiencing a deep moral, political and security crisis. Our defeats are deepening, pushing the people to see a way out of the situation in emigration or to adapt to the inertia of defeat,” they said in a statement.

“At this crucial time, Armenian intellectuals have no moral right to remain silent. On the one hand, the imperative to stop the loss of the Armenian statehood and on the other hand, the responsibility for the future have obliged us to make our voices heard.

“The June 20 elections will determine the prospects of the Armenian people as a nation with common goals and Armenia as a state.

“We are convinced that at this crucial time the preferred political force fighting for the future of the Republic of Armenia is the Armenia bloc, since the national, state and political forces and figures united in it are capable of stopping the collapse of the country, strengthening the Armenian statehood and restoring our hurt dignity.

“Dear compatriots, at this crucial time, we have no right to be deceived again, let’s unite around the Armenia bloc for the sake of our future generations, the continuation of our creative activity and the real victories of the Armenian people,” the statement reads.

YEREVAN, JUNE 7, ARMENPRESS. A little time has been left for the start of the 2021 Olympic Games. The Armenian national teams are at the last stage of preparing for the Games.

This time the hero of ARMENPRESS’ exclusive “Road to Dream – Tokyo 2020” is Greco-Roman wrestler Karapet Chalyan, a European silver medalist, a two-time bronze medal winner of Europe Championship.

-Let’s start from the beginning. How did you become interested in wrestling?

-I started to seriously get interested in wrestling in 2003. All my friends were training with wrestling, and I was not an exception. In addition to this, the sports school was very close to our home and engaging in this type of sport was more convenient. No one in my family is interested in sport, only one.

-Is this your first participation to the Olympic Games? What are your expectations?

-Yes, this will be my first Olympic Games, and I have high expectations. I will go there with the aspiration to win. But this victory depends on the trainings I hold these days, the work we do, as well as on the coaches, the trainings and a number of other things. I can state that we are passing a very good preparation stage. I need to take part in the Games in a very good fit. But in line with this, my nerves also should be in good condition and psychological part is also important.

-There are many world-famous title-winning athletes in your weight category. What is your opinion about them?

-All in this weight category are serious athletes. But I prepare with each once in the same way – it is necessary to win, no matter what titles my opponents hold.

-Is wrestling connected with the physical work only or mind, thought also play a role?

-Physical strength only is not enough for having a good fight. Other data are also needed for victory. Together with the physical preparedness, you also need to be prepared psychologically. Before the start we are holding discussions with the coaches about the opponents. They tell us what our opponents can do. We enter into stage by taking into account the weak sides of the opponent.

-The Tokyo Olympics were delayed for a year. How did it affect you?

-For me, the only bad thing was that the Games would take place a year later. But it didn’t affect our training process. The athletes have well planned the trainings.

-Most of the athletes are from Gyumri, where you were born. What is the reason that Gyumri resident plays so major role in sports life?

-It’s because of Gyumri’s bread and water [he laughs]. Or maybe it’s due to Gyumri’s air.

-Armenia is facing difficult times. Can this be a motivation for you to represent our country in a dignified way?

-The recent war left a big impact on us. Like every Armenian, we as well faced serious feelings both during the war and after that. 2020 was a difficult year. We need to work harder, better after the war for the sake of our flag, for the sake of winning the Games, for the anthem of Armenia to be heard, so that everyone will see that our country is a victorious country.

YEREVAN, JUNE 2, ARMENPRESS. The Public Services Regulatory Commission of Armenia has not received an application on revising the gas tariff, PSRC Chairman Garegin Baghramyan told reporters in the Parliament.

He informed that the gas import contract has been extended until July, and there will be a new contract after that.

“Regardless of what they will negotiate and what price will be set on the border, there is a clear procedure of tariff change for the final consumers, or the Commission must launch a revision of the tariff at its own initiative, or there must be an application for the revision of the tariff. And in order to study that application, the law gives at least 80 working days for discussion. After the discussion the tariffs set enter into force 30 days later. At this moment we do not have an application for the revision of the tariff”, he said.

Armenian militaries can be withdrawn from the Azerbaijani border at any moment, provided the simultaneous withdrawal of Azerbaijani troops, Nikol Pashinyan, the Acting Prime Minister of Armenia, has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that earlier Nikol Pashinyan stated that Armenia and Azerbaijan should simultaneously withdraw their troops from the border and allow international observers to come there.

In mid-May, the Armenian-Azerbaijani border conflict escalated. On May 13, Yerevan stated that Azerbaijani militaries entered the territory of the Syunik and Gegarkunik Regions of Armenia. In their turn, Azerbaijani authorities claim that the border guards only changed their deployment, staying within the Lachin and Kelbadjar Districts of Azerbaijan.

Armenia is ready to withdraw its troops from the border with Azerbaijan, Nikol Pashinyan said. "We are ready at any time to begin the withdrawal of troops, and we are waiting for the OSCE Minsk Group mediators to reach an agreement with Azerbaijan, and at the same time to begin the withdrawal of its troops from the section from the Sotk area (Gegarkunik Region in Eastern Armenia, – note of the "Caucasian Knot") up to Khoznavar (Syunik Region in Southern Armenia, – note of the "Caucasian Knot")," the "News-Armenia" Agency has quoted Mr Pashinyan as saying today.

The Armenian party is also ready to begin, under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group, clarifying the border points with Azerbaijan and continue negotiations on the settlement of the Karabakh conflict, the "Arka.am" has quoted Nikol Pashinyan as saying today.
