`Tamamiyle Yalandir’

`Tamamiyle Yalandir’

BY HENRY D. ASTARJIAN M.D.

Prime Minister Erdogan on the Charlie Rose show.
Without batting a lash and without being ashamed, Receb Tayib
Erdoghan, the Prime Minister of Turkey answered thus to Charlie Rose,
in a visible defiant facial and body language: `Tamamiyle yalandr!’

Charlie had asked him about the Armenian Genocide on his show, which
was televised a week or so ago. `Tamamiyle yalandr’! The translator
relayed verbatim `It is completely a lie’ he said, `the Genocide never
happened’. Charlie Rose’s face became mummified instantaneously with
disbelief. His eyebrows rose as if questioning, he skillfully
introduced another topic to discuss, in order to save the embarrassing
moment.

That is what the Prime Minister of Turkey had to say, after his
government affixed its signature on the ill fated Armeno-Turkish
Protocol, agreeing to look into the matter by a fact finding
committee, a concept which all Armenians, except a corrupt Armenian
clique, oppose. But now that is not the issue, the issue is Turk’s
dishonorable tradition of not respecting their signature.

Deception on the spot! The man didn’t have to think for a moment to
distort the undisputed historic fact, in which his ancestors’ hand was
awash with Armenian blood. Turks and Kurds committed the Genocide!
Period! It is a fact: my father said so, my grandmother said so,
Arnold Toynbee said so, Ambassador Morgenthau said so, front pages of
the New York Times said so, and the State Department documents say so.
They all said that there was a German designed, premeditated,
preplanned, meticulously executed Genocide to free Turkey of its
Armenian citizenry. Turks can not get away with it! All the motives
to this crime were there. The Genocide which started in 1915, did not
materialize overnight; It was breeding for decades. It was the product
of 1. the Turk’s fanatic Islamism, xenophobia, feeling of Uber Alles,
and chauvinism, and 2. the Kurd’s tribal order of looting, and killing
in order to survive.

The pogroms of Adana are a solid testimony to this fact: in April 1909
the civilian Turks, NOT the Ottoman Government, massacred some 30,000
Armenians for no reasons other than hatred, jealousy, and religious
fanaticism; Armenians were the well to do, civilized Infidels.
Children’s flesh was brutally macerated using cotton picking tools and
making them die a slow painful death. The Armenian civil population
was torched en-masse while the English, French, Italian, Russian,
Austrian, German and the United States navy, moored at Adana’s Mersin
harbor watched without interfering and rescuing the collective
drowning. The same happened in Izmir (Smyrna) when Ataturk’s forces
tightened the noose around the city from the north, the south, and the
east, then set fire to the city forcing the Greek and Armenian
population to jump into the Mediterranean while the English naval
officers were sipping four o’clock tea and eating crumpets and
`Samwiches’ in deference to the tragedy which was taking place, right
before their eyes; His Majesty’s Navy did not raise a finger to
rescue the drowning men, women, and children. To add insult to injury,
the navy violinists were playing a musical score to that horrendous
screen play, which, four decades later was repeated in the gas
chambers of Auschwitz.

These are the Turks! In 1956 Ataturk’s `Modern, Layik, Democratic’
government killed and deported thousands of Greeks from Istanbul, and
set fire to their shops in the famous Kapali Charshi. Bazaar. I met
two Turkish Greeks, separately, in Athens: one a sea food
restaurateur, and the other a barber, they both told me identical
stories about the brutality of the individual Istanbulli, and the
manner with which they were forced, at gun point, to close shop and
get out of town. They had started a new life in exile, thanking God
that their lives were spared.

The crimes which the Turks perpetrated in the late 19th century and
the beginning of the 20th against innocent people in Hijaz, Allepo,
Cairo, Iraq, and North Africa could not be told in a few words. They
killed and raped and robbed the wealth of an individual Arab and the
country. Reading about their historic personal and public conduct in a
land which did not belong to them, reminds me of `Ali Baba and the
Forty Thieves’ of the Thousand and One Nights.

Turks have not changed since their occupation of Asia Minor in the
15th century. Ataturk who tried to Europeanize them, could do so only
superficially. The Turk today is as European as the Mao Mao of Kenya.
Unless there is a genetic mutation, there can be no change in the
instincts and the character of a person, no matter the circumstances;
science says so. Ataturk himself was a chauvinist; He felt that he is
Ubermensch and the Turk Uber Alles. His logo was `Ne mutlu Turkum
diyene’ (Kudos to the one who says I am a Turk).

It is accurate to say that Kemalizm led to a negative reaction amongst
the Turkish population. Today, like yesterday, it is countered, even
rejected by a sizeable majority of Turks who have maintained their
religious fanaticism. They have shrouded themselves with a thin veil
of modernity functioning under Necmettin Erbakan’s and his protégé
Rajap Tayip Erdogan’s Islamic party (AK). They have already dominated
the political scene much to the opposition of the military, which
considers itself the protector of Kemalizm. In reality these Generals
are holding vigil to a dying regime which is hell bent on joining
Europe, even as a cadaver.

There is a tiny group of intellectuals like Orhan Pamuk, Hrant Dink,
Tanner Akcam, even Hasan Cemal, who are void of prejudice and
deception, but their survival in Turkey as a group, a movement, an
entity is next to impossible.

Imposing restrictive laws, which punishes anyone who remotely
criticizes the regime as insulting Turkishness, is proof positive to
Turkey’s chauvinism. Men like these, and dozens like them stand
persecuted, Hrant Dink gave his life!

Article 13 of the Turkish Penal Code prescribes punishment to all
those who praises Islamic values and lifestyle; hence the animosity
between the chauvinist Islamji Turk, and the chauvinist followers of
Ataturk.

This is the truth, and to all this, Erdoghan can not look into my
eyes, like he did to Charlie Rose, and say `Tamamiyle Yalandr’.

ISTANBUL: Halacoglu Bought Historic Documents from Russia

HalaçoÄ?lu Bought Historic Documents from Russia

Former Turkish Historical Society (TTK) President Yusuf HalaçoÄ?lu held
a speech at a conference called `1909: Armenian Barbarism in Adana,’
organized by the Adana Brotherly Culture Associations Society (Adana
KardeÅ? Kültür Dernekleri TopluluÄ?u) at the theater hall of the Adana
Metropolitan Municipality.

HalaçoÄ?lu claimed that in the 1990s he bought in 3200 documents from
Russia for 500 dollars in order to prove what Armenians did at that
time.

HalaçoÄ?lu claimed that the Turkish Republic could propose to form a
`historical commission’ thanks to those documents. `If it weren’t for
these documents, the creation of this committee could not be discussed
so easily. These documents should be destroyed urgently, right after
being read. But I have bought the documents in order to expose
Armenian barbarism and to show whose tricks these are,’ he said.

event, said that Altoon’s Armenia project inspired a generation of
Armenian architects and left the diaspora with a newfound appreciation
for what can be achieved in Armenia. "The Paramaz Avedisian building is
unique in Armenia’s recent history in its architectural rendering
because it embraces modern, green technology as it pays tribute to
Armenia’s rich architectural history. best exemplified by the intricate
yet simple designs of the ancient Armenian churches," she said. "It was
an enjoyable experience that helped our audience better appreciate the
advances and shortcomings still confronting the nascent Republic of
Armenia, and AGBU YPLA is thankful to Mr. Altoon for that, as well as
his time and efforts."

Head Of Central Bank: Armenia Able To Resist Outside Shoks

HEAD OF CENTRAL BANK: ARMENIA ABLE TO RESIST OUTSIDE SHOKS

ARKA
Dec 29, 2009

YEREVAN, December 29. /ARKA/. Armenia’s economy is stable enough to
resist the shocks coming from the outside, Arthur Javadyan, chairman
of the Central Bank of Armenia said answering questions at an online
conference on

"At the initial stage of the crisis, we have managed to retain
stability at the financial system, effectively combining this objective
with the necessity to keep prices pegged," he said.

Thanks to special monetary, tax and budget policies, the economy
started rallying yet in August.

"This gives us ground for saying that our economy is stable enough
to resist outside shocks," Javadyan said.

He said it shouldn’t be forgotten that the recession has discovered
weak points of the national economy, such as low diversification,
insufficient institutions dealing with "long money", ineffective
competitive environment, poor inflexibility of prices and not so
attractive investment environment.

"These problems are waiting for prompt solutions," Javadyan said.

ANKARA: Turkish, Azeri FMs discuss relations w/Armenia, reg. issues

Anadolu Agency, Turkey
Dec 25 2009

Turkish, Azeri foreign ministers discuss relations with Armenia,
regional issues

Ankara, 25 December: Turkish foreign minister has sought to give
assurances that relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan would remain
strong.

"We will not let anyone ruin relations between the two countries and
we will not let anyone set our countries against each other," Ahmet
Davutoglu told a joint press meeting [on] Friday [25 December] with
Azeri counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov after a meeting in Ankara.

Davutoglu said Turkey and Azerbaijan held regular contacts in mutual
visits, as well as regular consultations over the telephone.

"It is out of question that Turkey and Azerbaijan are estranged from
each other. Just as there are direct talks or consultations in a
family, there are direct consultations and contacts between the two
countries which we have never hampered," Davutoglu said.

The Turkish foreign minister said Turkey and Azerbaijan always
discussed any issue openly and "with the same perspective".

"That is why Turkey and Azerbaijan are one nation and two states,"
Davutoglu told reporters.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Friday that they
considered Caucasus would reach peace soon, and everyone should fulfil
his/her task not to miss the opportunity.

Davutoglu also said Turkish State Minister Zafer Caglayan would pay a
formal visit to Azerbaijan soon with a crowded delegation.

"We fully support the steps which have been taken for a solution to
Azerbaijani-Armenian conflict," he said.

"We think that normalization of Azerbaijani-Armenian relations as well
as Turkish-Armenian relations will constitute an important ground for
regional prosperity and stability," Davutoglu said.

In regard to Caucasus, Davutoglu said, "We think that peace will be
secured in Caucasus soon. Everyone should do what is required for
solution of problems." There is a full cooperation between Turkey and
Azerbaijan regarding the matter, he said.

Davutoglu said Mammadyarov and he discussed regional matters,
developments in Afghanistan and energy projects in their meeting, and
the two parties confirmed once again that Turkey and Azerbaijan would
work together in energy projects in Eurasia.

Azerbaijan’s foreign minister has said prospects of stability and
security in the Caucasus looked dim unless Armenian occupation over
part of Azeri soil ended.

"The biggest problem for Azerbaijan in the region is the Upper
Karabakh, which is under Armenian invasion and the situation of the
displaced people. We cannot speak of stability and security in a
setting where 20 per cent of Azeri territory is under occupation,"
Elmar Mammadyarov told reporters Friday in a joint press conference
with Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu in the Turkish capital,
Ankara.

The Upper Karabakh region has been under Armenian occupation since a
1994 cease-fire which followed a six-year war between Azerbaijan and
Armenia. The region is internationally recognized as part of
Azerbaijan.

Mammadyarov said Friday’s talks with Davutoglu discussed in detail
efforts to maintain stability in the region, adding that Azerbaijan
attached great importance to peace in the Caucasus.

The Azeri minister also said an agreement with Turkey to lift visa
requirements between the two countries was not signed due to a number
of bureaucratic shortcomings on the Azeri side, which he said would be
overcome soon.

Iran test-fires advanced missile

Iran test-fires advanced missile

Story from BBC NEWS:
middle_east/8415489.stm

Published: 2009/12/16 13:06:46 GMT

Iran has successfully test-fired an improved version of a medium-range
missile, state television has said.

The Sajjil-2 has a longer range than previously-tested missiles which
could travel 2,000km (1,243 miles), Iran’s Arabic-language TV station
announced.

That range would put Israel and US bases in the Gulf within range.

Correspondents say it is not the first time this missile has been
tested, but the timing is likely to add to current tension over Iran’s
nuclear ambitions.

The West says that Iran is trying to build nuclear weapons, a charge
Iran denies.

UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown said the missile launch could increase
the likelihood of further sanctions on Iran.

MAXIMUM MISSILE RANGE

Shahab-3b: 2,500km
Sajjil-1 and 2: 2,000km
Shahab-3a: 1,800km
Shahab-3: 1,300km
Shahab-2: 500km
Zelzal: up to 400km
Fateh: 170km
Tondar: 150km Sources: GlobalSecurity.org, AFP, Jane’s, Arms Control
Association

"This is a matter of serious concern to the international community
and it does make the case for us moving further on sanctions," he
said.

The French Foreign Ministry said the launch was "very worrying".

"A test of this kind can only strengthen the international community’s
worries at a time that Iran is also developing a nuclear programme
with no identifiable civil objective in violation of five United
Nations Security Council resolutions," spokesman Bernard Valero said.

In September, Iran was heavily criticised after testing its Sajjil and
Shahab missiles.

Those tests came just weeks after Iran revealed the existence of a
previously secret nuclear facility in the mountains near the city of
Qom.

Readiness

Like the missiles tested in September, the missile launched on
Wednesday uses solid fuel in its two-stage rocket.

Solid fuel rockets can be prepared for launch in less time than those
using liquid propellant rockets.

BBC defence correspondent Nick Childs says the government’s
refinements to its rocket programme will increase tensions over Iran’s
nuclear ambitions.

The six nations negotiating with Iran on that issue want to prevent
the government from enriching uranium to weapons-grade.

Iran has declared it will open 10 more nuclear sites and enrich
uranium to a higher degree than it has publicly announced before.

Arrest threat?

The latest test-firing comes on the same day that Iran’s judiciary
announced it had evidence that opposition leaders had tried to foment
anti-government tension on the streets following disputed elections in
June.

The announcement by judiciary chief Sadeq Larijani is seen as an
indication that opposition leaders may be about to be arrested.

Hundreds of protesters have been detained and five have been sentenced
to death by courts.

Protests have continued and Iran accuses the reformists of being
influenced and aided by the West.

The missile launch may be an attempt to distract attention from plans
to arrest the opposition leaders, correspondents say.

On the occasion of the New Year and Christmas Holidays, Armenian
President Serzh Sargsyan received mass media representatives in his
residence today.

Congratulating the journalists, President Sargsyan said: `In a few
days we’ll bid farewell to 2009, which was full of events and

stance really influence the public opinion, since people learn about
the events from you. Therefore, you are also writing the chronology of
our history. My wish is that this chronology is maximally unbiased and
complete.’

PM: Armenia must be ready for different developments in crisis

PM: Armenia must be ready for different developments in crisis

YEREVAN, December 26. / ARKA /. Armenia must be ready for any scenario
that can take place in crisis, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said at
the final press conference on Friday.

According to him, Armenia is working closely with the consulting firm
McKinsey & Company, an authoritative world organization, carrying out
global studies, and once a quarter he gets information on projections
of 1400 of the best experts on the crisis.

He explained that in accordance with the estimates of these
specialists, there are four scenarios for the situation.

Sargsyan said that the first scenario is that we have reached the
bottom and the reconstruction phase has already started, the second:
the bottom has been reached, there is some economic activity, but will
be the second wave, the third: the bottom has been reached, but a
longer period is expected to recover, and the fourth scenario is a
very slow recovery of world economy.

Sargsyan noted that during the first quarter of 2009, 32-34% of
specialists inclined to believe that the situation will develop in the
first scenario.

"Estimates of the last quarter showed that the number of supporters of
the second scenario has increased, reaching about 24%, but there is
still the belief that we are nevertheless included in the recovery
period," he explained.

In this regard, the Prime Minister said that the crisis is a
phenomenon that is impossible to predict, because it excludes the
expression patterns, and there is not a methodology that would enable
the accurate assessment of its depth and the scope of its
distribution, as well as a way out.

"It is impossible to predict as to when the crisis is to occur and
when the second wave take place," Sargsyan summarized. A.B. – 0 —

Compensation To Family Of Deceased Armenian Airlines Crew Ceased, MP

COMPENSATION TO FAMILY OF DECEASED ARMENIAN AIRLINES CREW CEASED, MP REMINDS PM

Tert.am
15:57 ~U 24.12.09

Heritage Party member, MP Anahit Bakhshyan, before the government
session today, asked the prime minister to turn his attention to the
plea made by family members of the pilots and crew who perished in the
2001 Yak-40 plane crash. The aircraft belonged to Armenian Airlines
and had crashed in Iran.

The next of kin of the Armenian Airlines crew who died in the crash,
as per legislation, had been receiving compensation; however, payments
ceased in the last 2 years. Armenian Airlines declared bankruptcy
already some years ago, and the person in charge of the company’s
affairs explained that compensation amounts can be paid only after the
company’s assets (most notably, real estate property in Sevan) have
been sold. But this process, for unknown reasons, is being delayed.

The five families of the deceased airline staff were standing in front
of the building today, requesting a meeting with government officials.

When Bakhshyan attempted to remind Armenian Prime Minister Tigran
Sargsyan about this, the PM responded by saying that they welcome
everyone, but the MP was persistent. "You are interrupting the
government session," said the PM, exasperated.
