Armenian National Committee opens chapter in Karabakh

Sept 2 2021

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Office of the Armenian National Committee has been established in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) by the decision of the ARF Bureau, taking into account the humanitarian, security and moral-psychological challenges caused by the recent war.

"The establishment of the ANC Office in Artsakh is a clear political message that the protection of rights of the people of Artsakh, the international recognition of the Republic of Artsakh, the elimination of the consequences of war and the recovery of Artsakh remain the key issues and political priorities of the activity of the ANC global network," the Central Office of the Armenian National Committee said in a statement.

On September 2, ANC held an official reception in Stepanakert on the occasion of the establishment of their office in Artsakh.

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 2, ARMENPRESS. Today, September 2, 2021, marks the 30th anniversary of the declaration of independence of Artsakh, formerly known as the Nagorno Karabakh Republic.

On this day in 1991, a joint sitting of lawmakers from the Nagorno Karabakh provincial council and the Shahumyan regional council proclaimed the Nagorno Karabakh Republic (NKR) within the borders of the former NKAO and Shahumyan region. The move was in line with the then-active legislation, particularly the April 3, 1990 law which entitled national autonomies to determine their status on their own.

On December 10, 1991, a few days before the official collapse of the Soviet Union, Nagorno Karabakh held a referendum, where the overwhelming majority, 99,89%, of the population voted in favor of complete independence from Azerbaijan. After this, Azerbaijan totally blockaded NKR and launched military aggressions.

The Artsakh Liberation War began when for the first time in September of 1991 Azerbaijan bombarded Stepanakert with Alazan rockets from Shushi. In 1994, at the request of Azerbaijan a trilateral (Azerbaijan, NKR, Armenia) ceasefire agreement was signed on May 12.

15 years after independence, in 2006, the people of Artsakh adopted the country’s Constitution through a referendum, again on September 2.

On September 27, 2020, Azerbaijan, with the support of Turkey and engagement of mercenary terrorists, launched a large-scale war against Artsakh. The war lasted until November 9 when a trilateral statement at the mediation of Russia was signed to stop the military operations.

The Tufenkian Foundation Rebuilds Two More Damaged Homes in the Villages of Artsakh’s Martuni Region

THE TUFENKIAN FOUNDATION REBUILDS TWO MORE DAMAGED HOMES IN THE VILLAGES OF ARTSAKH’S MARTUNI REGION

The homes of the Hayrapetyans of Machkalashen and the Sargsyans of Herher village sustained major damages during last year’s war in Artsakh

HERHER VILLAGE, Martuni, Artsakh (TUFENKIAN FOUNDATION)—Two more families in Artsakh’s Martuni region were given the keys to their rebuilt homes last week, as part of the Tufenkian Foundation’s Martuni Village Home Renovation and Repair Project. The homes of the Hayrapetyans of Machkalashen village and the Sargsyans of Herher village sustained major damages by Azerbaijani shelling during last year’s war.

Zina Hayrapetyan, who serves as Machkalashen’s head nurse, lost her husband during the Artsakh Liberation War in the early 1990s. The Hayrapetyan home was hit twice during last year’s war while her son was serving in Hadrut. “Our family home was completely destroyed; it was in utter ruins. It was difficult to imagine that it could ever be rebuilt in such a short amount of time,” Hayrapetyan explained during an intimate ceremony on June 25, to mark the completion of construction of the house, which is home to five members of the Hayrapetyan family.

“Following the war, our board of trustees decided that the Foundation should only focus on the most immediate, pressing needs in Artsakh: the renovation and reconstruction of damaged homes, addressing the housing issues of our wounded soldiers and the families of our fallen,” explained Tufenkian Foundation trustee, Dr. Antranig Kasbarian. “We are looking forward to moving onto implementing development projects once these fundamental needs are addressed,” Kasbarian added.

After consultations with Artsakh authorities, the Tufenkian Foundation decided that it would carry out its work in the Herher cluster Martuni region of Artsakh: in Herher and its surrounding villages, including Tsovategh, Kherkhan, and Machkalashen. The Hayrapetyan and Sargsyan homes are the third and fourth of a total of 13 homes in the region that the Foundation will renovate and restore. While in Machkalashen, the Tufenkian Foundation also provided food assistance packages to ten vulnerable families in the village thanks to a gift by an anonymous donor.

The Sargsyans of Herher village were the second family to receive the keys to their renovated home on June 25. According to Karlest Sargsyan, the head of the Sargsyan household, the family lost everything in the war after being completely leveled by Azerbaijani fire. “Everything was destroyed; that’s what happens in war. But we thank God we survived,” explained Karlest, who lives with his wife, daughter, son, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren.

“These are difficult times for our people, for the people of Artsakh, but I am certain that we will rise from the ashes once again, thanks to the support of organizations like the Tufenkian Foundation. We are indebted to the hard work and determination of the Foundation’s board, staff, and supporters, and I’d like to thank everyone involved—from the directors to each construction worker—for their commitment to the people of Artsakh,” Karlest said, before his house was blessed by Father Mkhitar Haroyan of the St. Vardanants Armenian Apostolic Church of Chartar.

During the ceremony, the Sargsyan family also received a surprise gift from a dedicated Tufenkian Foundation volunteer, 21-year-old Razmig Makasdjian of San Fransisco, Calif. After consulting the Foundation’s Artsakh staff, Makasdjian, who has been volunteering throughout Artsakh and Armenia since last December, decided to outfit the Sargsyan’s rebuilt home with a brand-new refrigerator. “This is the least I could do for a family that has suffered so much. I am happy I could do my small part and call on others to help in any way they can. I am hopeful about the future of Artsakh,” Makasdjian said.

The Martuni Village Home Renovation and Repair Project is a part of a larger program initiated and implemented by the Tufenkian Foundation to address the most pressing needs in the region. As part of its Herher village cluster restoration and redevelopment program, the Tufenkian Foundation also announced that it will be launching the Martuni Village Healthcare Improvement Initiative. The initiative will restore the village Buzhkets (community medical clinics) and provide training to local healthcare workers to ensure that residents receive quality care.

Established in 1999, the Tufenkian Foundation addresses the most pressing social, economic, cultural, and environmental challenges facing Armenia and Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabagh). Since its inception, the Tufenkian Foundation has supported various community initiatives as well as civic activism and public advocacy campaigns to help improve life in Armenia, while providing housing, education, social, health, and livelihood support for the Armenians of Artsakh.

YEREVAN, JUNE 27, ARMENPRESS. The hospitality and sense of humor of Gyumri residents are undeniable. And in many cases, these two characteristics become the basis for business in Gyumri and serve as a key to success

Hrach Gyurjoglyan founded a guest house business in Gyumri back in 2016, allocating part of the house for this purpose. Later, in 2018, he decided to expand the guest house. ARMENPRESS reports Converse Bank became a partner in the implementation of the project, with the support of which Hrach Gyurjoglyan acquired the neighboring house, turning it into a guest house.

Today his guest house is in demand and very much loved by guests. There is no shortage of guests and tourists. And he again thinks about expanding, establishing new, related types of business.

“There are many goals, but it depends on the period. I may apply again, acquire money to buy another house, more businesses, to represent Armenia, to demonstrate Gyumri to tourists in a more pleasant way, so that the tourists wish to stay longer in Gyumri․․․ “Because we are obliged to develop our country with our efforts”, he says.

The project was financed within the framework of Converse Bank’s "Gyumri" product. Details can be found at https://www.conversebank.am/en/gyumriloan/

Armenian American Museum commences permanent exhibition schematic design

Public Radio of Armenia

The Armenian American Museum has commenced the Schematic Design of the Permanent Exhibition – the core experience of the museum that will be dedicated to the history, culture, and heritage of the Armenian people and the Armenian American experience.

The Permanent Exhibition will showcase the thousands of years of rich and vibrant Armenian history, educate the public on one of the darkest chapters in history in the Armenian Genocide, and celebrate the inspiring strength, resilience, and perseverance of the Armenian people and their vast contributions to society throughout the world. The Permanent Exhibition will combine signature spaces, interactive presentations, and rare artifacts to provide a unique, immersive, and impactful experience for every visitor to the museum.

The Schematic Design phase of the Permanent Exhibition is led by the museum’s world-renowned exhibition design firm Gallagher & Associates, an internationally recognized interdisciplinary design studio with more than 20 years of experience in museum planning and design. G&A’s notable projects include the National Center for Civil Rights and Human Rights, International Spy Museum, National Archives Museum, National Museum of American Jewish History, Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum, Grammy Museum, and more.

During the Schematic Design phase, the exhibition’s key experiences are designed, key storylines are established, and key interactive and artifact opportunities are identified for the three-dimensional gallery space. The current phase follows the initial Master Plan phase completed in December 2019. The Schematic Design is anticipated to be completed in Fall 2021.

“We are pleased to share the exciting progress on the Permanent Exhibition of the Armenian American Museum,” stated Executive Chairman Berdj Karapetian. “The Permanent Exhibition is going to be the signature experience of the museum and we look forward to the design and content bringing the exhibition experience to life through the Schematic Design.”

The museum will be convening a Permanent Exhibition Committee comprised of scholars, artists, and thought leaders in Summer 2021 to provide expertise and guidance on the content of the exhibition as Gallagher & Associates advances through the Schematic Design phase.

The Armenian American Museum has announced the historic Groundbreaking Ceremony of the landmark center on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at the future site of the museum in Central Park in Glendale, California.

The museum will rise to a two-level 50,820 square foot cultural and educational center in the heart of Southern California. The first level will feature the grand lobby, auditorium, learning center, demonstration kitchen, gift shop, and administrative offices. The second level will be dedicated to the permanent and temporary exhibition galleries as well as the collections archives.
