BRITISH AIRWAYS PLANES CONTINUE FLYING FROM YEREVAN TO LONDON Yerevan,
August 11. ArmInfo. The flights of British Airways planes from
Zvartnots (Yerevan) to Heathrow (London) have not been cancelled, says
the sales director of the Yerevan office of British Airways SImon
Avakyan.

At the same time, because of the public emergency declared in the UK
over the possibility of terrorist acts, the last two days’ flights
from Yerevan to London have been delayed for indefinite time.

Avakyan says that Yerevan-London flights are carried out 4 times a
week. From Yerevan British Airways planes fly to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan,
and from there back to Yerevan and then to London.

Avagyan says that the emergency in the UK has not reduced the

had to replace Airbus A-320 (124 seats) by A-321 (149). The first
after the emergency British Airways plane will fly from London to
Yerevan today 06:35 PM but they in the company could not say if the
plane will come on time.

ANKARA: High court gunman father claims there are traitors in Turkey

High court gunman’s father claims there are traitors in Turkey

The public enemy is not his son but "those who are enemies of Islam
and the nation’s moral values," according to Idris Arslan, whose son
Alparslan is on trial for May’s Council of State shooting.

Answering the questions of reporters yesterday ahead of the first
hearing of May’s Council of State shooting case, Alparslan Arslan’s
father said people who don’t respect the values of the nation will be
punished.

"This nation will punish, one way or another, those who don’t respect
our values," said Arslan, who works as an Education Ministry
inspector.

Also making a call on the media, Arslan told reporters, "Don’t be a
tool of imperialist forces. Serve your nation!"

He claimed that there are people in Turkey who are against Islam.
"There are enemies of Islam in this country. There are enemies of the
Koran. We’ve sacrificed 100,000 martyrs to this country. If
necessary, we will sacrifice more," said Arslan.

"There are many Mehmets and Mustafas in this country who are indeed
Armenians or Greeks. They betray this country hiding behind
secularism," claimed Arslan.

However he also stated that he never wanted such an attack to occur.

Asked to comment on his son’s desire to attend Friday prayers while
the hearing was in progress, Arslan said his son has been in prison
for a long time and that people should understand his request given
his son’s emotional state.

international specialists, in the Armenian-Azerbaijani contact line
to reveal the reasons of fire.

He was commenting on the statement by special envoy of the OSCE
chairman-in-office, Andzey Kasprzyk, on the fir in the occupied
territory of Azerbaijan.

Azimov said that Kasprsyk asserted the fact of fire. `This is the
important result for us, Kasprzyk is not an expert, in particular in
the ecology issues and cannot define the reasons causing fire,’
underscored.

the document is of political character. He stresses the necessity of
conduct of monitoring by an export group.

Azimov said that the group should include specialists in the sphere

in Chiyoda Ward and Uplink Factory in Shibuya. Four films — Harutyun
Khachatryan’s "Return to the Promised Land" and "Documentarist,"

"Calendar" is an English-language film.

Arsinee Khanjian in "Calendar," an Atom Egoyan-directed film showing
as part of "Armenian Film Selection" (C) EGO FILM ARTS

The son of Armenian refugees, Cairo-born, Canada-raised Egoyan shot
some of 1993’s "Calendar" (Aug. 11, 7 p.m., Aug. 12, 7 p.m., Aug. 19,
2:30 p.m) in Armenia, and examines the question of Armenian identity
through a man hired to photograph churches for a calendar. Egoyan
would go on to gain acclaim for 2002’s "Ararat."

Sergei Parajanov’s experimental 1968 film "Color of Pomegranates"
(Aug. 12, 1: 40 p.m., Armenian with Japanese subtitles only), is a
unique work which has little dialogue and was filmed mostly using
stationary cameras.

Born in 1924 in Tbilisi, Georgia, to Armenian parents, Parajanov
lived an eventful life that included spells in gulags in the 1970s
on charges of "homosexuality and illegal trafficking of religious
icons" that were widely accepted as being trumped up by the Soviet
authorities. Made at a time when most films coming out of the USSR
were state propaganda, the dreamy "Color of Pomegranates" vividly
explores the art and poetry of Armenia by looking at the life of a
troubadour named Sayat Nova, played by Sofiko Chiareli, who also took
on five other roles — male and female — in the film.

In addition to the screenings, Mitsuyoshi Numano, a professor at the
University of Tokyo, will discuss Armenian literature and film after
the screening of "Documentarist" (3:30 p.m., Aug. 12).

Tickets per screening are 1,000 yen at the door (800 yen in advance
from Athenee Francais Cultural Center, near Ochanomizu Station on
the JR Sobu Line and Marunouchi Subway Line, and Uplink Factory,

The Lists Of The Armenian Criminal Is Made

THE LISTS OF THE ARMENIAN CRIMINAL IS MADE

Lragir.am
9 Aug 06

We have learned that the establishment of the anti-criminal pact in
Armenia is underway, and the initiators are likely to conduct a highly
systematized survey of the structure and activities of the criminal
contingent of the Armenian government. We have learned that the
anti-criminal pact will have different task forces, which will study
the past and the present of the criminal. In particular, the university
diplomas and the ways they were acquired will be investigated.

The pact will also deal with the property of the administrative
criminal resource, the history of its formation, its activities in the
past, facts of cooperation with the police in relations with criminal
authorities, nicknames. We have learned that the anti-criminal pact
will also study the army-criminal and criminal-universities relations.

Our source informs that the anti-criminal actions are not confined
to a single pact. We have learned that similar organizations are set
up inside different political parties. Almost all the anti-criminal
movements consider their prime problem to clarify the list of the
criminals to reach a nominal and clear investigation. The initial
list of the criminal in the government is ready. It is interesting
that the lists of all these anti-criminal lists basically overlap.

Our source also informs that certain circles of the Republican Party
support the idea of joining the anti-criminal, though not openly
but practically, because they have also started to dislike that the
Republican Party is becoming a shelter for the administrative-criminal
resource.

ARMENIA TREE PROJECT IMPLEMETS THIS SPRING WORKS
OF 158 HECTARES OF TREE PLANTING IN GETIK RIVER BASIN

YEREVAN, AUGUST 8, NOYAN TAPAN. Within the framework of the tree
planting program of the Armenia Tree Project (ATP) public nature
protectional organization, 343 750 trees were planted in April-May
of this year in the Getik river basin (the marz of Gegharkunik, nor
far from Sevan). Within the framework of this program of the ATP, 158
hectares of forest territories were planted and completely restored
with types of local trees (chestnut, ash-tree, maple, oak tree,
walnut-tree, wild apple-tree and wild pear-tree). 80 inhabitants of
the villages of Aghavnavank, Dzoravank, Dprabak and Aygut situated
in the Getik river basin were involved in works of tree planting
being implemented by the ATP. Young plants envisaged for the forest
cover were bought from hotbeds in personal plots belonging to 118
families living in the above-mentioned communities. Those communities
are mainly populated with migrants of Armenian origin displaced from
Azerbaijan. So, the program secured a necessary source of income for
the most needy families and employees involved in the affair of tree
planting. According to the information submitted to Noyan Tapan by the
ATP, within the framework of the "Community Tree Planting" program,
143 450 trees and bushes were planted in this spring in all the marzes
of Armenia and Artsakh. The ATP was founded in 1994. By its activity
addressed to security and restoration of the forest vital systems,
it has a goal to assist the economic and social development of the
country. The program implements a voluminous forest planting, community
tree planting, the society’s awareness concerning the problems of
protecting the environment, programs on nature protectional education
and development of rural communities. Only during the last 12 years,
the ATP planted and revived more than 1.2 mln trees in 600 settlements
of Armenia and Arstakh.

Tigran Torosian on Nagorno Karabakh Issue

TIGRAN TOROSIAN ON NAGORNO KARABAKH ISSUE

AZG Armenian Daily #147, 05/08/2006

Karabakh Issue

The official Baku does not dare to recognize the real situation in
the Karabakh process and that causes the anti-Armenian militaristic
propaganda in Azerbaijan,

Tigran Torosian, Chairman of RA National Assembly, said in the
interview to Regnum agency. He added that obviously the settlement
of the Karabakh conflict is possible only through respecting the
principle of national self-determination. Nevertheless President Ilham
Aliev is not still ready for that, although during backstage talks
he also assumes that this is the only possible way. The only thing
which remains for the President of Azerbaijan to do is to lie to his
own people and make them believe that the problem can be solved by
military force, he said. Torosian called for the international society
to help Azerbaijan face the reality. For example, the international
institutions could recognize the independence of the Nagorno-Karabakh
Republic. In that case Azerbaijan will be liberated from necessity
doing that step first and will only have to accept the fact. When it
becomes obvious absolutely to everyone that Azerbaijan is not ready for
peace settlement and is even hampering the process, the independence of
Karabakh will be once again affirmed through referendum. The right of
the Armenian people for national self-determination will be respected,
irrespective of the position of Azerbaijan.

As for the current stage of the settlement negotiations, he said
he wouldn’t evaluate today’s situation of negotiations for Nagorno
Karabakh conflict settlement within the OSCE MG framework as a
failure. He emphasized that the settlement principles, including that
of respecting the right for self-determination, had been elaborated
for several years, but today these principles are announced and are
discussed by the publicity. Torosian condemned the official Baku in
double-faced behavior, as the statements made for the home auditorium
didn’t match with those made to the co-chairs. "Unless certain details
of the negotiations were revealed and everything was held beneath
the closed doors, Aliev and Mamediarov didn’t neglect them. Today,
when many people are informed about the details, they try to deny the
principles or some of them," Torosian said. He added that the new
stage of the negotiations will have the same results as those in the
last year: "when the times come to fully publish the principles and
define the formulae of the documents, the Azeries will again retreat."

Commenting on the issue of the territories under the control of
NKR Armed Forces, he said that for the first time the right of
people for self-determination is recognized as a principle for the
settlement of a conflict. This is an undeniable fact and is fixed
in several documents. The application of this principle will yield
the recognition of Nagorno Karabakh’s independence. Tigran Torosian
emphasized that the issue of territories around NKR is directly linked
to the issue of the NKR people’s right for self-determination and can’t
be considered separately from that. "They sometimes say that NKR has
held a referendum once. But one may ask which borders was that held
in. If we keep insisting on the results of the referendum held in NKR,
we shouldn’t forget that we are also instating on preservation of
the borders the referendum was held in," he said. "17 years passed,
if we count from 1988, as the international community has fixed that,
the principle for the people’s self-determination should be taken into
account. If it’s necessary to wait for NKR’s independence recognition
for 17 years more, I believe that both in Armenia and in NKR people
will have the required patience to wait for that day. None should
ever doubt that this day will come," Torosian underscored.

As for the information on holding the independence referendum
in 15 years, he said that the term for holding the referendum for
self-determination in NKR in 10-15 years isn’t fixed anywhere. There
is no such a document and there are no reasons for talking about such
a term. Tigran Torosian said it isn’t reasonable to talk of any term,
as it should be linked to certain actions. Besides, the borders for
holding the referendum should also be precisely defined. Moreover,
one should accurately fix that notwithstanding the position of
Azerbaijan after the referendum, the international community should
recognize its results, Torosian emphasized, adding that Azerbaijan
is ready to deny any agreements, viewpoints or promises any time
at all. "The international community should secure the recognition
of these results. At the same time, if we need some 2-3 years for
holding the referendum, one should define the intermediate status
of NKR," Torosian stated, adding that there are many issues that
should be answered to complete the elaboration of the document and
to prepare that for signing. He expressed hope that by that time NKR
will participate in the negotiations. "It’s very important that the
document is also signed by the representatives of NKR, as Nagorno
Karabakh is an internationally recognized full fledged side in
conflict," he underscored.
