Pasadena, CA – Members of the Armenian National Committee of Pasadena
met with Councilman Chris Holden on January 24, 2009 to discuss issues
of mutual concern regarding the City of Pasadena. Holden, the son of
former Los Angeles City Councilman Nate Holden, has served on the City

are slated for March 10, 2009.
"We were pleased with our dialogue with Councilman Holden,"
remarked Pasadena ANC Executive Director Ishkhan Boghosian. "Our
dialogue included a number of important items, including how the
Pasadena ANC can work with him to build a bridge between the African
American community and the Armenian American community in the City of
Pasadena" added Boghossian.
The Councilman also shared that he had worked in support of President
Barack Obama’s campaign and was pleased that the ANCA had supported the

2) ANC-WR Gears Up for Massive Voter Registration Drive
Los Angeles, CA — An unprecedented voter registration drive has been
put under way by the Armenian National Committee-Western Region
(ANC-WR) for the upcoming local and state elections in Southern
California. Volunteers, led by Voter Registration Coordinator
Christopher Yemenidjian will be coordinating the drive in an effort to
increase Armenian American voter registration throughout the greater
Los Angeles area and to raise awareness about the importance of voting
regularly and how to remain informed about issues of concern to the
community.
"The voter registration effort is critical to thrive as a
community while relaying our concerns to the public," said
Yemenidjian. "Over the next few months we will be working with
local ANC chapters, youth organizations, activists, and volunteers to
spike voter registration in Southern California" he added. more…
3) Asbarez: The Opposite of Silence
Pasadena, CA — As millions of people continued to pour into the
nation’s capital on the day dedicated to Martin Luther King Jr.’s
memory, America’s first black president prepared to make history by
taking the oath of office.
On the eve of that inauguration, while the world anxiously waited to
see Dr. Kings dream move closer to a reality, hundreds, young and old,
gathered in Pasadena, California for a "moment of noise" to
honor the countless individuals who throughout history, in times of
"challenge and controversy," dared to do more than just dream
of a better world.
The event, titled "the Opposite of Silence," was organized by
the United Human Rights Council (UHRC) at Pasadena’s Armenian Center, a
building itself erected to honor the legacy of a people who stood for
justice in the face of oppression. Marking the second anniversary of
the assassination of Hrant Dink, the "Opposite of Silence"
sought to highlight the lessons that emerged from that fateful day two
years ago when a gunman attempted to silence truth by killing its
advocate at the doorstep of his Istanbul office. more…
