Azerbaijani assistance to Lebanon following blast receives public blowblack

Azerbaijan will provide Lebanon with $1 million in assistance following the deadly blast on August 4 which killed more than 100 people and injured thousands. The decision, however, has caused a mixed reaction on the Azerbaijani segment of social media networks.

This money will be allocated from the reserve fund provided for in the state budget of Azerbaijan for 2020.

Many are angered that the government is providing the assistance during a period when the ‘country itself is in a lamentable socio-economic situation.’ Judging by the discussions on social media, people consider it unfair that the government, instead of fixing the situation in the country, is providing other countries with such serious financial assistance.

Some user comments on this news:

“I wonder why Azerbaijan doesn’t help its people? Why during this period of quarantine every needy family is not given food and financial assistance? Helping Lebanon does not suit us, the people have been dying of hunger for five months!”

“Help these people, these little children, at the age of 18, you will gather everyone and throw them away to the Armenians, whom you support.”

“There is money for everyone, but when it comes to us, there is no money! Instead of giving money to Lebanon, isn’t it better to give it to our quarantined citizens?”

“They keep their people at home for five months, 190 manats [about $112] – no money, and they feel bad about giving [even this sum] to them, while Lebanon is given a million dollars. Self-interest must end. Think about the people.”

Armed clashes reported on Azerbaijan-Armenia border

Prensa Latina
Baku, Jul 12 (Prensa Latina) On the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia there was an armed clash, with two dead and five wounded soldiers from this country, the military command said on Sunday in this capital, quoted by local television.
Since noon this Sunday, Armenian armed forces violated the cessation of hostilities regime in the Tovuzk region section of the Azerbaijani-Armenian state border by firing artillery against our position, the military leadership said.

The national troops lost at least two men and reported five injured, but there were also losses on the Armenian side, said a source from the Armenian Ministry of Defense, to which the RIA Novosti agency refers.

On their side, from Yerevan, the military leadership denied having any losses and according to their version, it was the Azeri side that first tried to violate the border by passing a car with military personnel and then attacked a fortified Armenian border post, the same agency reported.

In 1988, Armenia and Azerbaijan clashed over the enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh. Since 1992, the two former Soviet republics have been holding talks to end the dispute, mediated by the Minsk Group of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

Russia, the United States and France co-chair this OSCE group, which discusses aspects related to the ceasefire regime, the location of troops and armaments, as well as border issues between Armenia and this nation.

Azerbaijani press: Expert: Kim Kardashian’s actions indicate a complete collapse of Pashinyan regime

  •

  • ANALYTICS

Recently, the popular American television star Kim Kardashian started raising funds through the platform of the "Support Fund for Armenia" to help micro-entrepreneurs in Armenia who have suffered from the coronavirus pandemic.

On this occasion, a well-known Russian TV presenter, political expert Evgeny Mikhailov expressed his opinion in a conversation with News.Az.

"In my opinion, if Kardashian is already unsure of Pashinyan's regime and started to collect money to help her compatriots in faraway Armenia, this points to the complete economic and political collapse of Pashinyan's regime. It's a direct indication that the Prime Minister's government is incapable of pulling the economy out, unable to bear the blow of the pandemic," Mikhailov said.

The expert noted that Pashinyan is not helping his population.

"Kim Kardashian understands very well that Armenia is a small country, which survives at the expense of small shopkeepers and tourist business. They tried to survive successfully under other regimes, which also did not rule well in Armenia. What is happening now is a collapse. Basically, Kim Kardashian, as a representative of the rich world of Armenians, directly rub Pashinyan's nose into the fact that he is not coping. Besides, in the publication circulating in Armenian media, I liked the comparison of the current situation and the support to people in Armenia and neighboring countries. It is directly stated that in Azerbaijan, in Turkey the population is much better protected than in Armenia. And the fact that the government of these countries provides maximum support to different segments of the population in order to survive the economic crisis," said Mikhailov.

"I think that Kim's opinion and her actions indicate a lot. First of all, the collapse of statehood is coming in Armenia. After all, it keeps getting worse. Pashinyan will strengthen his power in dictatorial ways, shut everyone's mouth. This will happen until the people finally overthrow him," the expert said in conclusion.
