Asbarez: Armenians of Artsakh Will Face Annihilation Under Azerbaijani Control, Says Deputy Foreign Minister

Armenia's Deputy Foreign Minister Vahe Gevorgyan briefs lawmakers on Nov. 4

What happened during the first and second Artsakh wars clearly showed that the Armenians of Artsakh cannot live under Azerbaijani control, and will face eventual annihilation, Armenia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Vahe Gevorgyan told lawmakers on Thursday.

“What happened during both the first and second Artsakh wars clearly shows that the Armenians of Artsakh cannot live under Azerbaijani control. That is, because [Azerbaijan] is in fact engaged in a policy of extermination. The best proof of this is the total absence of Armenians in the territories presently controlled by Azerbaijan,” said Gevorgyan.

Armen Rustamyan, a member of the parliament’s Armenia bloc asked Gevorgyan whether there were plans for Armenia to give Artsakh “remedial recognition” under the principle of people’s right to self-determination.

In response to Rustamyan’s inquiry, Gevorgyan said that stated principle “is getting firm substantiation.”

“And I think that this approach, that the Armenians of Artsakh are facing annihilation under Azerbaijani control—this truthful, reliable and accurate narrativ—is being advanced by us in both our discourse and during negotiations,” added Gevorgyan, who added that Armenia will be consistent in restoring and protecting the rights of the people of Artsakh and will make every effort to guarantee their right to live safely and with dignity in their homeland.

He said that in relation to the Azerbaijan’s aggression against Artsakh in 2020 and Baku’s aspirations toward the sovereign territories of the Republic of Armenia, the foreign policy priorities remain the ensuring of the security of Armenia and Artsakh, the resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, as well as the establishment of regional peace and stability, and the process of unblocking transportation links.

“Armenia’s principled position regarding the Artsakh conflict has been expressed on numerous occasions. That includes a comprehensive and lasting resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, which can be achieved under the auspices of the only internationally mandated format–-the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairmanship—based on the well-known principles and elements, which implies the determination of the final status of Artsakh taking into account the unbreakable right to self-determination of the Armenians of Artsakh,” Gevorgyan said.

In this phase, he prioritized the re-launching of the peace process under the OSCE MG Co-chairmanship, as well as prioritizing humanitarian issues, including the repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war, the determination of the fates of those missing or who are victims of forced disappearances, and the preservation of Armenian cultural heritage.

To that end, Gevorgyan said that process of the so-called unblocking of transport routes cannot take place at the expense of the security, sovereignty and vital interests of Armenia.

“Establishment of a peaceful and beneficial environment for co-existence in the region is also based on the unblocking of the region. Thus, the implementation of the January 11 trilateral statement is very important. The effective implementation of the unblocking process is possible if all players demonstrate a constructive stance and take practical steps. At the same time it’s important to note that this process cannot take place at the expense of Armenia’s security, sovereignty and vital interests,” Gevorgyan explained.

The deputy foreign minister announced that the top diplomats of Armenia and Azerbaijan will hold new meetings mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs and new conditions will be created for the complete re-launch of the peaceful resolution process of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

Gevorgyan cited a meeting in New York between the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan and mediated by the Co-chairs as an example of the peace talks resuming, in response to another Armenia bloc lawmaker Anna Grigoryan.

“After the meeting, the Co-chairs issued a statement reiterating that they are working within the framework of their mandate, which is the resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict,” said Gevorgyan. “I believe that at this juncture this is an important aspect to register.”

The international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide is also among the priorities of the Armenian foreign policy. Gevorgyan reaffirmed that Armenia will continue to actively contribute to the international community’s efforts for preventing genocides and other crimes against humanity.

CHAIRMAN MENENDEZ ANNOUNCES NDAA AMENDMENTS TO HOLD TURKEY AND AZERBAIJAN ACCOUNTABLE

US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations
Nov 4 2021
  1. CHAIRMAN'S PRESS
NOVEMBER 04, 2021

WASHINGTON – Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today announced two of the foreign policy amendments he is filing to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). As the primary vehicle for authorizing defense spending for Fiscal Year 2022, Chairman Menendez’s proposed changes to the NDAA seek to significantly improve the U.S. government’s ability to track and assess the national security implications of the proliferation of Turkey’s unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) program, as well as to prevent further exceptions to bypass a 1992 law banning U.S. military assistance to the Government of Azerbaijan.

  • Amendment Ending 907 Waiver: Prohibits the continued use of an exemption waiver of Section 907 of the FREEDOM Support Act. Section 907, which has been law since 1992, bans most assistance to the Government of Azerbaijan until it takes demonstrable steps to cease all blockades and other offensive uses of force against Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. The Government of Azerbaijan has clearly not taken these steps, yet assistance to that government has skyrocketed in recent years.

“As the regime in Baku, with Turkey's support, continues choosing a path of violence instead of a peaceful, negotiated process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, it is long past time for this and all future administrations to halt this type of assistance and fully respect Section 907 of the FREEDOM Support Act,” said Menendez. “I look forward to working with my colleagues to make sure this year’s NDAA continues to advance U.S. national security and foreign policy interests all while representing a prudent use of U.S. taxpayer dollars.”

  • Amendment on Turkey’s Drone Program: Mandates the State Department and Pentagon report on Turkish drone exports since 2018 and whether those drones contain parts or technology manufactured by U.S. firms. The amendment also requires State to determine whether Turkey’s exports are a violation of the Arms Export Control Act or any other U.S. law or sanctions. Turkish drones played a decisive role in last year’s war between Armenian and Azerbaijan. Since then, Poland, Morocco, and Ukraine have purchased the Bayraktar TB2 and several other countries have expressed interest, including Angola, Ethiopia, Niger, Nigeria, and Rwanda.

“Turkey’s drone sales are dangerous, destabilizing and a threat to peace and human rights,”  added Menendez. “The U.S. should have no part of it, and this amendment is a recognition that we must prevent U.S. parts from being included in these Turkish weapons.”

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 5, ARMENPRESS. Lars Patrick Berg, Member of the European Parliament, paid a private visit to Armenia this week and as a member of the European Parliament's Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, held meetings with Armenian parliamentarians, particularly  with Vahe Hakobyan, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs of the National Assembly of Armenia, and Arman Yeghoyan, Chairman of the Standing Committee on European Integration, ARMENPRESS reports Lars Patrick Berg told ARMENPRESS.

“Of course, this is not my first visit to Armenia, I have already been to Armenia. This visit of mine is private, I would like to exchange views with our Armenian partners on both economic and trade issues as well as strategic issues. In particular, I am interested in Armenia-EU economic relations”, the MEP said.

According to Berg, economic issues were discussed during the meeting with Vahe Hakobyan, and during the meeting with Arman Yeghoyan, opinions were exchanged on Armenia-EU relations. The meetings with the Armenian parliamentarians took place on November 4.

In that context, the MEP referred to the 2017 agreement between Armenia and the European Union, the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, emphasizing that all parties in the European Parliament are interested in the implementation of this agreement, since Armenia, as a separate country and the region as a whole are important for the EU Member States not only in terms of economy but also geostrategy.

“Suffice it to say that Armenia has been a member of the Council of Europe since 2001, and that many events and programs have been implemented in Armenia over the past 20 years. Let's take the issue of the rule of law, judicial reforms, etc. And any other step in this direction that will deepen these developments should always be welcomed”, Lars Patrick Berg said.

Turkish press: Flake’s nomination as US ambassador to Turkey approved

The nomination of former senator Jeff Flake as Washington's ambassador to Turkey was approved by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Tuesday.

The committee voted to approve 33 nominees for the State Department, United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and other critical foreign policy positions.

Among the ambassador nominees chosen by President Joe Biden are Thomas Nides for Israel, David Cohen for Canada, Claire Cronin for Ireland and Steven Bondy for Bahrain.

"The nominations move favorably to the Senate Floor for consideration by the full Senate," said a statement by the committee.

Nominated in mid-July, Flake was a key Republican ally for Biden during last year's White House race and endorsed the Democratic then-nominee after establishing himself as a Republican long at odds with former President Donald Trump.

Flake served in both the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee during his time in Congress, which spanned nearly two decades.

In September, he said Turkey would face more sanctions if it purchases additional S-400 missiles from Russia.

Flake, who had rejected the so-called Armenian genocide during his term as a senator, said he would recognize it if he is appointed as ambassador.

Biden described the killings of Ottoman Armenians during World War I as “genocide” in April.

“We remember the lives of all those who died in the Ottoman-era Armenian genocide and recommit ourselves to preventing such an atrocity from ever again occurring,” Biden said. “And we remember so that we remain ever-vigilant against the corrosive influence of hate in all its forms,” he said.

“We do this not to cast blame but to ensure that what happened is never repeated,” Biden said.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu was quick to condemn the statement.

“We have nothing to learn from anybody on our own past. Political opportunism is the greatest betrayal to peace and justice. We entirely reject this statement based solely on populism,” Çavuşoğlu said in a Twitter post.

With the acknowledgment, Biden followed through on a campaign promise he made a year ago. Mainly hailing from Ottoman Armenians, Armenians in the U.S. constitute significant communities in the East Coast and California.

Turkey’s position on the 1915 events is that the death of Armenians in eastern Anatolia took place when some sided with invading Russians and revolted against Ottoman forces. A subsequent relocation of Armenians resulted in numerous casualties, added by massacres from militaries and militia groups of both sides. The mass arrests of prominent Ottoman Armenian politicians, intellectuals and other community members suspected of links with separatist groups, harboring nationalist sentiments and being hostile to Ottoman rule were rounded up in then-capital Istanbul on April 24, 1915 are commemorated as the beginning of later atrocities.

Turkey objects to the presentation of the incidents as “genocide” but describes the 1915 events as a tragedy in which both sides suffered casualties.

Ankara has repeatedly proposed the creation of a joint commission of historians from Turkey and Armenia plus international experts to tackle the issue.

The list of disagreements is unusually long for the two NATO allies, including the U.S. support for YPG terrorists, the PKK's Syrian offshoot in Syria, Turkey’s purchase of the Russian S-400 air defense system and Biden's declaration of the 1915 events regarding the Ottoman Armenians during World War I as "genocide.”

Armenian Foreign Ministry says Pashinyan-Aliyev meeting not planned yet

TASS, Russia
Oct 23 2021
According to the diplomat, "the rumors spread by certain quarters on this topic are obviously provocative and false"

YEREVAN, October 23. /TASS/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s meeting with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev is not being planned, Armenian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Vahan Hunanyan wrote on his Facebook account on Saturday.

"I would like to emphasize that at the moment no meetings between the Armenian prime minister and the president of Azerbaijan are planned. There are proposals for various meetings in different formats, which are being negotiated," he noted.

According to the diplomat, "the rumors spread by certain quarters on this topic are obviously provocative and false." At the same time, he stressed, "Pashinyan has reiterated that Armenia is ready to resume highest-level talks to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict with Azerbaijan within the mandate of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs."

The highland region of Nagorno-Karabakh has been disputed by Baku and Yerevan since February 1988 when the region announced its withdrawal from the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic. Renewed clashes between Azerbaijan and Armenia erupted on September 27, 2020, with intense battles raging in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh.

On November 9, 2020, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint statement on a complete ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh starting from November 10. According to the statement, the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides would maintain the positions that they had held and then the Armenian forces would turn over control of certain districts to Azerbaijan. In addition, Russian peacekeepers were deployed along the contact line and to the Lachin corridor, which links Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia.

On January 11, Putin, Aliyev and Pashinyan signed a joint statement at the talks in Moscow. The statement stipulates that a working group chaired by deputy prime ministers of the three countries should be established to focus on mending the transport and economic ties in the region.

Asbarez: Senate Committee Calls for Continued U.S. Aid for Artsakh De-Mining

Senate urged to earmark $2 million for Artsakh de-mining

Proposed FY 2022 Foreign Aid Bill Would Continue to Block Arms Sales to Erdogan’s Bodyguards Following 2017 Attack on Washington DC Protesters

WASHINGTON—The Senate Appropriations Committee called for ongoing U.S. aid for Artsakh de-mining and expressed concern about unrest in the Caucasus, in its version the Fiscal Year 2022 foreign aid bill presented Monday, reported the Armenian National Committee of America.

“The Committee recommends up to $2,000,000 for humanitarian de-mining and UXO clearance activities in areas affected by the 2020 fighting in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, subject to prior consultation with the Committees on Appropriations,” stated the report accompanying the Senate FY2022 foreign aid measure.  It went on to note that “the Committee remains concerned with the protracted conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and requests the Secretary of State to consult with the Committees on Appropriations prior to obligating assistance made available under title IV of the act for Armenia and Azerbaijan.”

“We are deeply troubled that to date USAID has provided only $2.5 million in new aid to meet the needs of the 100,000 Armenians displaced from their indigenous Artsakh homeland by an Azerbaijani army which has received over $120 million in U.S. military assistance,” said ANCA Executive Director Aram Hamparian. “Armenian American will continues to work with Appropriations Committee members to expand life-saving U.S. assistance to Artsakh while demanding the enforcement of Section 907 restrictions to end U.S. support for Azerbaijani aggression.”

Pro-Armenia and Artsakh advocates can urge their U.S. Senators and Representative to zero out military aid to Azerbaijan by visiting

The Senate’s proposed FY2022 foreign aid measure, for the fifth consecutive year, blocked any U.S. arms to President Erdogan’s elite bodyguard unit, which, under Erdogan’s orders, brutally beat peaceful U.S. protesters in Washington, DC on 2017.  Senators also called on the “Government of Turkey to immediately release the remaining locally employed U.S. Embassy employee, and to dismiss the false charges against him and two other locally employed staff whose cases are on appeal.”  The Committee went on express its concern about “widespread arbitrary detention and abuse of the judicial process in Turkey, as well as reports of torture and other mistreatment of detainees.”

The U.S. House version of the FY2022 foreign aid bill, adopted on July 28th, calls for not less than $50 million in U.S. assistance to Armenia, “for economic development, private sector productivity, energy independence, democracy and the rule of law, and other purposes.”  It urges not less than $2 million for de-mining activities in Artsakh.  The recommendation for U.S. assistance to Armenia is over twice that requested by President Biden in his FY2022 proposed budget, which remains silent on U.S. assistance to Artsakh.  It also includes an ANCA-backed amendment, led by Congressional Armenian Caucus Co-Chair Frank Pallone (D-NJ), which restricts U.S. foreign military financing and training assistance to Azerbaijan.

The ANCA shared its FY2022 Armenia and Artsakh assistance priorities with Senate and House Appropriations Committees earlier this year.

Yerevan Armenia – Event Dedicated to the 25th Anniversary of the "Peace of Art" organization.

Toward Purpose
October 11, 2021, Imperium Plaza, Yerevan. Event Dedicated to the 25th Anniversary of the “Peace of Art” organization. wwwpeaceofart.org
Writer-poet Mary Poghosyan, the host of the event began by greeting those present, adding:
“Today marks the 25th anniversary of the installation of the first billboard, which was unveiled in 1996 in Cambridge, MA, calling on the United States to recognize the Armenian Genocide.  We are proud to announce today that we have achieved our goal of recognizing the Armenian Genocide by the United States.”
Heghine Gevorgyan, the representative of the “Peace of Art” organization in Armenia, made an opening speech:
The “Peace of Art” organization was founded in Boston, MA, in 2004 and is listed on the Massachusetts Secretary of State, but has been active since 1996 with the installation of the first billboard.
The “Peace of Art” organization is dedicated to the peacekeepers and implementers of the world peace, as well as to those who had the courage to risk their lives for the welfare of humanity.

The “Peace of Art” is a non-profit educational organization that uses the universal language of art to raise awareness of the human condition and contribute to the peaceful resolution of conflicts.  It serves art for the sake of peace and has no political, partisan or religious orientation, focusing on the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
Since the foundation of the organization, it has not requested or received any funding from individual, state or other sources, all the needs of the organization have been sponsored by Daniel Varoujan Hejinian’s personal efforts and means.
Having worked with Varoujan Hejinian since 2013 and presenting the “Peace of Art” organization in Armenia, I would like to briefly present his work.
Varoujan urges people to adopt a peaceful and civilized way of resolving conflicts, as the idea of ”peace” is the main source of inspiration for his art.
For the past twenty-five years, billboards have been erected in various US states in March-April on Varoujan’s initiative, presenting the undeniable fact of the Armenian Genocide to the international community, calling for its recognition and condemnation.
He has had numerous solo exhibitions in various prestigious galleries in the United States, often contributing to Armenian and foreign charities. Also, Hejinian is the author of numerous murals that are visible and popular in various parts of Boston.
In his art, in particular in the collection of “Peace of Art”, Varoujan discusses humanistic ideas, presents human situations, the lack of peace and its catastrophic consequences.  He also appreciates the role of women in society and emphasizes the peculiarities of the image of Armenian women in his works.

Varoujan has painted many religious murals and paintings in seven Armenian Churches throughout the United States. Hejinian completed 46 murals covering the northern and southern walls of the Saint Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church. He has painted several public and corporate murals in Boston as well.
On May 10, 2014, an unprecedented khachkar-monument called “Mother’s Hands”, designed by Varoujan and initiated by the “Marimak Valley” Armenian Genocide Commemoration Committee, was unveiled at the entrance of the Lowell Town Hall.  The monument is special since it is the first in the Diaspora to be placed on a public space belonging to the city, in front of a government building.
In 2014, on the initiative of the Ministry of Diaspora of Armenia, a solo exhibition entitled “Peace of Art”, dedicated to the 23rd anniversary of Armenia’s independence and the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, was organized at the National Gallery of Armenia.
In 2015, the “Peace of Art” organized a campaign entitled “100 Billboards on the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide”, installing electronic and static billboards dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in various US states and Canada, as well as in memory of the innocent victims of all genocides committed in the past hundred years.
In 2018, with the participation of the Ministry of Diaspora, the Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Norway in the Republic of Armenia received a gift from the Government of the Republic of Armenia to the Government of the Kingdom of Norway – a portrait of Fridtjof Nansen by Daniel Varoujan Hejinian, entitled “Nansen, Bridge of Friendship and Peace”.  The painting expresses the friendship of the Armenian and Norwegian nations.
In 2019, the President of Armenia, Armen Sargsyan, handed over to the French Ambassador to Armenia Varoujan Hejinian’s canvas entitled “Aznavour.  “Bridge of Friendship”  to transfer to the President of the French Republic, Emanuel Macron, as a symbol of permanent friendship between the two countries.
Varoujan Hejinian is highly regarded at home and abroad, he has received many awards and medals throughout his life for his efforts to promote peace through his art, as well as for his romantic expressive paintings that transcend the boundaries of place and time.
Considering that he is a gifted artist, educator, and inspiration to the American-Armenian community in Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Supreme Court has recognized Varoujan Hejinian’s many contributions to the Armenian-American community, his lifelong work, and his art of serving peace and justice.
The event was accompanied by two videos, the first about the achievements of the organization, and the second about the “Peace of Art” collection – the use of art as a tool to raise awareness of the human condition to prevent homelessness, hunger, violence against women, terrorism, genocide…
Karen Avanesyan, the Head of the Diaspora Potential Mapping and Involvement Department of the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, warmly congratulated the 25-year-old activity of the “Peace of Art” organization on behalf of the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Commissioner Zareh Sinanyan.
A quarter of a century has passed since Daniel Varoujan Hejinian initiated the display of the first large billboard informing about the Armenian Genocide in the United States of America, calling for its international recognition.
From that day on, every year, Mr. Hejinian and his associates display billboards in public places in the United States, which silently but at the same time very eloquently informed the public about the reality of the Armenian Genocide. Many of us have seen them on various media platforms and social networks.
After all, as a result of the years of active work, in 2004, Mr. Hejinian officially registered the non-profit organization, the “Peace of Art”, which continued to work even harder, particularly in the United States and Armenia, adopting a new form of civilized struggle, to be compassionate and tolerant of the public and to choose fair paths to achieve the goal.
One of the main activities of the organization became the support of genocide prevention.  Over the past 25 years, the organization has installed more than 100 informative billboards about the Armenian Genocide in the United States.
The organization has organized about 3 dozen exhibitions, numerous lectures, and other programs in the United States and Armenia. As a result, it has been awarded many high awards by a number of authoritative institutions, including the state institutions of the Republic of Armenia.
We wish you more success in all future initiatives to continue your cherished and pro-Armenian work that started 25 years ago, with the same spirit, energy and diligence.”
Speech by Ruzan Asatryan, writer, publicist, public figure, academician of the International Academy of Nature and Society:
Dear Varoujan,  I welcome your significant event today, yes it’s very important, because peace is the oxygen of humanity on the planet.  You have chosen “Peace of Art”, because art is a divine force leading to Parnassus.
The talented radiance of your mind includes the universal outbursts of both the universal and the personal pulse, which have been highly valued by the art-loving society.

A child of parents who survived the Armenian Genocide, Varoujan re-indulged in his diligence and talent, as he turned his nation’s peace into a vital balm not only in his paintings, but also in his honorable public charitable work for 25 years.
Varoujan’s work on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by US President Biden is undeniable, since he showed special details about the Genocide on 100 billboards and distributing it in various US cities. In those days, the painting of the great philanthropist Nansen, a worthy friend of the Armenian people, who issued a passport to the Armenians in exile, had a great response, in which Varoujan presented the strong need for peace of art with the golden strokes of his brush.
It is one thing when a person is talented and another thing when he is a soldier of peace in front of his ancestors.  I am glad that we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the organization in our homeland. I congratulate you and wish you new initiatives…

The Words of heart by the poet, architect Tatios Yessayan:
This beautiful picture, that you saw and loved, is really a symbol of the peace pioneer painter Mr.  Varoujan Hejinian.  Here is the history of the Armenian Nation, which is presented in colors.  See how Mr.  Hejinian’s brush changes from black to blue: the black as the suffering of the Armenian nation, and the blue as the rebirth of the nation.  And here is the proud Armenian woman with her native flag waving in the blue and raising her hands as if calling home birds like a Diaspora Armenian alien in the distance.
Hejinian lives in a world of different colors.  He loves all the colors of the Great Painter God.  He loves the seven colors of the rainbow. He prefers the colors that are missing in the rainbow – the “mysterious black” that Hejinian immortalizes in his black pencil drawings.
Hejinian sees everything with the far-sighted eye of his soul.  He believes that optimism is the key to peace, and that at the end of all anxious phenomena, peace will surely prevail, as the waves of the sea calm down, ending at the crumbling of the rock on the shore.
Hejinian has a sensitive heart and a keen eye.  He is taciturn, but with his silence he understands a lot.  Last week we were walking together in a garden, we saw a laurel tree with only one red rose on top.  Involuntarily, the two of us stood and watched.  “Varouj,” I said, “What do you think?”  He took a deep breath.  “Something,” he said.  He was silent and continued watching.  It was a mystery to me what moved him.  Was it the loneliness of the rose that was still waiting for the gentle gaze of a passer-by or other roses next to him?  I think that all these thoughts had invaded Varoujan’s inner world together and were already being drawn on the poster of his soul.
Yes, Hejinian’s inner world is different.  It is the inner world of a great artist that is completely loving, peaceful and compassionate, and all this is reflected in his wonderful works that we watch, enjoy and admire.
Let us honor Mr. Hejinian with applause.  If the Frenchman is proud of his Matisse, if the Netherlands is proud of his Van Koch, if Armenia is proud of his Martiros Sarian, Roslin and Kochar, we Western Armenians are also proud of Varoujan Hejinian.  Let his creative brush remain!
The Director of the “Diaspora” Scientific-Educational Center, Professor, Dr. Suren Danielyan, in his speech mentioned the parallel between the poet Daniel   Varoujan, who called for fight, and the artist Daniel Varoujan Hejinian, who a century later peacefully continued the struggle for the welfare and justice of humanity, condemning the genocide to prevent future genocides.

The concluding speech of the founding president of the “Peace of Art” organization, Varoujan Hejinian.
On behalf of the “Peace of Art” organization and me, I would like to thank all of you for participating in the event dedicated to the 25th anniversary of our organization.
For Armenian’s, April is a month of mourning and sad memories.  Every Armenian living abroad feels in his soul and essence the suffering and injustice to which he is personally subjected.  In addition, the storm of genocide along with the massacre of one and a half million, scattered another one million Armenians to the four corpses of the world, each of which already has its own victims.
I am one of them, from my father’s side my paternal uncle was hanged, my aunt suffering from tuberculosis died on the way to exile, my mother’s whole family was lost in Der Zor irretrievably, and I am a child of a migrant.  Our fathers and grandfathers had a house, a garden, a pasture, but we were left with a longing for dry bread, under tin sheets, whistling with rain water and trembling winds blowing through the cracks.  All of these are lived realities, clear and unambiguous.

I am the child of that tortured generation and my cells are made up of suffering and pain.  That pain will linger until the weight of justice begins to weigh heavily and good people multiply to listen to our grievances.  Every Armenian has his just complaint and other ways to express it.
My ability was also very modestly these billboards, through which I hope to have taken a step in favor of justice.
We must condemn the crime in order to prevent new crimes.  I would like to add a small note that I am an Armenian artist, not only by talent but also in spirit, in other words a cosmopolitan, because art can’t cage with its creator within its own narrow borders, but like a dove of peace it flies over the souls of all peoples, with the olive message of love and brotherhood.

How good it would be if the world’s political leaders were artists, then we would have a bouquet of peoples with a much more human face.
I firmly hope that one day the Turkish people, having reached the “Great Crime” of the past, will condemn it with all righteous people and, extending a friendly hand to the Armenian people, will confess the “unacknowledged crime.”

The event was concluded by RA Honored Artist, Conservatory Professor, Armenuhi Seyranyan, and the Symphony Orchestra Violinist, Sona Sokhikyan.

Armenian NGO member shares details of unpleasant talk with Karabakh President about disbanding army

News.am, Armenia
Oct 21 2021

President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Arayik Harutyunyan declared that he intends to disband the army, and when I asked him who gave him the right to do that, he said it’s the Azerbaijanis’ demand. This is what board member of the Armenian Population Forcefully Displaced from Shushi NGO Ashot Harutyunyan said during today’s discussion on the main issues of compulsorily resettled Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh that was hosted by the Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs of the National Assembly of Armenia.

Ashot Harutyunyan added that he was outraged by the President’s statement.

“The Azerbaijanis can say they want a lot of things, but the army needs to be maintained. Yes, the representatives of our organization demand immediate recognition of the interim status of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. Yes, there are many Armenians who say this is premature. Even my friends from Europe call me on the phone and ask me not to raise this issue. Nevertheless, I always say that this issue is a very important issue for us,” the member of the NGO said, adding that it would be possible to avoid a war with Azerbaijan, if the authorities of Armenia had recognized Nagorno-Karabakh’s independence.
