YEREVAN, JANUARY 22, ARMENPRESS. Armenian foreign ministry spokeswoman Anna Naghdalyan has commented on the statement of Turkish foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu according to which “if the peace is lasting, Turkey and Azerbaijan are ready to undertake steps aimed at normalizing relations with Armenia”.

The MFA spokesperson gave a comment to PanARMENIAN.Net.

Question: Recently, Foreign Minister of Turkey Cavusoglu stated that if the peace is lasting, Turkey and Azerbaijan are ready to undertake steps aimed at normalizing relations with Armenia. Can you comment whether the Armenian side is ready to “normalize the relations”. What does this statement mean? Has any initiative been undertaken in this regard, particularly by the Turkish side?

Answer: I would not like to comment on the statements of Turkish-Azerbaijani leadership, which are not consolidated by any action. Moreover, they contradict each other. The Turkish-Azerbaijani military exercises carried out near the Armenian border in violation of relevant OSCE commitments do not prove that the Turkish-Azerbaijani leadership has peaceful intentions towards Armenia. The cessation of hostile actions against Armenia may create conditions for building trust in the region.

YEREVAN, JANUARY 21, ARMENPRESS. The leader of the Bright Armenia (LHK) opposition party of the Armenian parliament Edmon Marukyan has called on the international community to ramp up pressure on Azerbaijan to release the Artsakh War PoWs that are held in captivity months after the war ended.

Marukyan says that France and the United States should join the efforts of their OSCE Minsk Group partner Russia, as well as Armenia, in achieving the repatriation of the captives – one of the terms of the Nagorno Karabakh armistice.

The opposition leader says the entire international community should be consolidated in order to increase pressure on Baku, even achieve sanctions so that Azerbaijan returns the Armenian captives.

“In terms of humanitarian law they are wrong, they are wrong in terms of wartime rules of engagement, they are wrong even in terms of the rules by which the ceasefire was signed – Azerbaijan is wrong under all rules,” Marukyan said.

“I believe that the United States and France – as two Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group – should join the efforts of Russia and Armenia, and on top of that the EU and other countries should also join. The civilized world must unite around this issue and pressure Azerbaijan into returning the Artsakh prisoners of war and civilian captives to Armenia,” he said.

Panorama, Armenia
Jan 15 2021

Over the coming year, the Swedish Chairpersonship will do its part to ensure that the OSCE can make a real difference on the ground and defend the principles on which the Organization was founded, said OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sweden Ann Linde in her virtual address to the Permanent Council on Thursday.

“In a situation where multilateral co-operation and international law are increasingly being challenged, and our agreements and instruments to strengthen security are being questioned, we need to remind ourselves why we designed them in the first place,” said Linde. “Sweden is convinced that multilateral co-operation is the best way to address our common challenges. Sweden has shown that we are ready to shoulder our responsibility for the multilateral system.”

Elaborating on the Chairpersonship’s priorities, she said they will focus on the principles and commitments shared by all 57 participating States, defending the European security order and upholding the OSCE’s concept of comprehensive security. Political and economic security, human rights, democracy, the rule of law and equality are interrelated and interconnected, she added.

Conflict resolution efforts in the region is a high priority, Linde said, noting the ongoing conflicts and crises in and around Nagorno-Karabakh, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia and Belarus.

“Threats to international peace and security, as well as the suffering caused by conflicts, are simply unacceptable,” Linde said. “We therefore need to keep the resolution of the conflicts in our region at the top of our agenda.”

She said that the Chair will call for respect for international law in all conflicts and will back measures to mitigate the humanitarian consequences and advocate an inclusive approach. The Chair remains ready to engage directly with stakeholders and offers OSCE’s good offices to facilitate solutions, Linde added.

She stressed that achieving comprehensive security throughout the region requires meaningful inclusion and empowerment of women. Linde emphasized that as Chairperson-in-Office, she would place special emphasis on strengthening gender equality in all aspects of the Organization’s work. She also raised the strong and unique joint commitment within the OSCE to the participation of civil society.

Armenia announces 6 month ban on Turkish goods in protest of Erdogan’s support of Azerbaijan

AMN – Al-Masdar News
Jan 3 2021

BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:30 A.M.) – The Armenian government announced a six-month ban on importing Turkish goods, in protest against Turkey’s support for Azerbaijan in the Karabakh region.

The Armenian Ministry of Economy said, “The import ban will not lead to an increase in prices in the country, because Turkish goods are not dominant, as imports from Russia, Belarus, Iran and China can replace them.”

The ban does not include the intermediate elements required to produce Armenian goods.

It is noteworthy to mention that Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed on November 10, with Russian mediation, to stop the war in Karabakh and exchange prisoners and dead bodies.

The Second Karabakh War began on September 27th and ended on November 10th, following the Moscow Agreement between Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia.

BOSTON (CBS) — The day had finally come at the Armenian Women’s Nursing Home in Jamaica Plain: the COVID vaccines arrived Monday.

“In addition to relief, getting the vaccine today was one more validation that we are going in a different direction, a hopeful direction,” said CEO Scott Ariel.

Josphine Grove and her roommate Ruth Johns were in the front of the line. For them, the day could not have come any sooner.

“I feel like I’m relaxed, peace of mind,” said Grove. “I can go and do anything I want.”

Eighty-seven-year-old Johns said, “I think it’s beautiful because it’s for a worthy cause and it’s prevention, and to do nothing is sad. So this is a positive thing that we’re doing.”

Josphine Grove and Ruth John were ready to be vaccinated Monday (WBZ-TV)

The home was devastated by the virus during the first surge last spring. But on Monday, all 50 residents were vaccinated, along with many staff members.

The federal government left much of the vaccine distribution up to individual states. The rollout has been bumpy: the Armenian Women’s Nursing Home anticipating receiving vaccines last week and they didn’t arrive until Monday. But Massachusetts officials say the vaccine plans are starting to hum along.
