Electric energy exports from Armenia grow

Category
BUSINESS & ECONOMY

Electric-energy exports from Armenia has increased by 9.9% in the 8 months of 2017. A total of nearly 955 million kWh of electricity has been supplied against the 868 million kWh of last year.

The ministry of energy infrastructures and natural resources said the main export destination was Iran.

Supply to Georgia has also been restored with more than 116 million kWh supplied this year. The supply was enabled by the agreement on mutual-flow of electricity energy between Armenia and Georgia, signed by Energoimpex and Global International Energy. The deal enabled to optimize the electricity production and consumption regimes in Armenia.

805 million kWh electricity energy was supplied to Iran in this year.

The supply pace is expected to be boosted soon, with exports growth planned to reach at least 20% by yearend.

During the same period, 4.1 billion kWh electric-energy was consumed in the domestic market – an increase of 7,2%.

Film: Jivan Avetisyan’s ‘The Last Inhabitant’ screened at Venice Film Festival

Panorama, Armenia
Sept 9 2017

Armenian filmmaker Jivan Avetisyan’s “The Last Inhabitant” was screened on September 5 at the Venice Production Bridge of the Venice International Film Festival in Italy.

As the Fish Eye Art Cultural Foundation reported in a release, the film screening was held at the initiative of the organization’s Italian partner Blue Knowledge Association and personally its Director Orietta Trevisanato Zampieri. The event was carried out under the high patronage and with the direct participation of Luca Zaia, Veneto Governor (Administrative center – Venice).

According to the source, film director Jivan Avetisyan, co-producer Kestutis Drazdauskas, Executive Producer Adrineh Mirzayan and lead actress Sandra Daukšaitė-Petrulėnė were present at the film presentation.

The film screening was attended by public, culture figures, representatives of the film industry, distributors and sale agents.

The screening was followed by a cocktail party, during which the attendees shared their impressions on the film, expressing highly positive views.

“The Venice Film Festival is one of the unique events which evaluates the arthouse films, accepts and attaches importance to the films telling about human destinies, and it is not accidental that “The Last Inhabitant” gained an opportunity to be shown on the sidelines of an Italian film festival, under the aegis of the Veneto Governor, Luca Zaia. The first emotions I experienced are incredible. I am happy that my film, which I also consider as the film of the entire Armenian nation, lives beyond the Armenian borders and successfully presents itself at such prestigious film festivals. I hope the film screening will prompt the continuity of the Armenian-Italian cooperation, with the film to be also screened at the Italian cinemas.  We have great expectations,” the foundation quoted Jivan Avetisyan as saying.

The film crew also highlighted “The Last Inhabitant” as an international production. Executive Producer Adrineh Mirzayan underscored the role of the Diaspora in supporting the production of such Armenian films.

To remind, the film depicts the life in an Armenian village, evicted in the result of the Karabakh conflict. Abgar, the main character, stays behind all alone in a gradually shrinking enemy ring. He is waiting for his daughter, who has become a witness to her husband’s murder by an angry mob and was hospitalized with a mental disorder. An Azerbaijani named Ibrahim, for finding and bringing Abgar’s daughter, suggest that he work on the construction of a mosque. A few days later, Ibrahim finds the girl, named Yurga, in one of the psychiatric hospitals of Baku and brings her to Abgar.

Every child is entitled to quality inclusive education: Henrikh
Mkhitaryan's UNICEF message

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 1, ARMENPRESS. Armenia’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan, the
midfielder of Manchester United, who is also a goodwill Ambassador of
UNICEF, made an online address on the occasion of the new academic
year, September 1, calling on the society to welcome children with
disabilities in educational institutions and communities, emphasizing
the significance of inclusive education for vulnerable children.

The video shows Mkhitaryan’s June meeting with a group of children,
who tell the football superstar about their education, dreams and
problems.

“Every child regardless of his or her abilities has the right for
quality inclusive education”, Mkhitaryan says in the video. “It is the
abilities of the child, and not the inability, that decide what
achievements the child can have in life”.

UNICEF Armenia representative Tanja Radocaj mentioned that Armenia has
reached remarkable results in expanding inclusive education.
Nevertheless, there are still many things to be done in increasing the
training of schools, parents and communities in this regard.

“In UNICEF, we know that children with disabilities can do wonderful
things, is they are given a chance. Like anyone else, they too have
the same right to education”, she said.

As of 2017, there are 208 inclusive schools in Armenia, and this
number is gradually growing.

ANKARA: Tomorrow May Be Too Late!

Tomorrow May Be Too Late!

by Fuat Bol

[Armenian News note: the below is translated from Turkish]

Opportunities in general and historic opportunities in particular are
prizes; if their value is known, all will be good, but if their value
is not known, the ship will sail!

Once [former] US President [George H. W.] Bush had proposed [former
President Turgut] Ozal to jointly enter Iraq. The Americans would
enter from the south and we would enter from the north. Ozal had said
all right, but he had not been to convince the chief of staff, who
used to be "the bearer of the leadership role" at that time.

In fact, the chief of staff had resigned in order to avoid carrying
out the order in question. The chief of staff who had replaced him had
come to office on that condition and he had resisted. Eventually the
project had failed.

And instead of us the United States had cooperated with the Kurds and
it had entered Iraq with their support.

In return for what? In the short run, in return for the north of the
30th parallel and in the long run, in return for the Greater Kurdistan
which would be established by taking territory first from Syria and
later from Iran and Turkey!

Among the United States's plans there is also an Armenia project which
will be based in Van and which will include six provinces in its
region.

With the Iraq' war, the Syrian war, their disintegration, and even
with the PKK [Kurdistan Workers' Party]-PYD [Democratic Union Party]
and DA'ISH [Arabic acronym for ISIS] they are merely putting these
projects into practice.

Those who used to oppose Ozal then and even today argued and continue
to argue that [Iraq] was a quagmire, that we would not be able to get
out once we entered, and that we would drown there. Hello! We did not
intend to enter Iraq for winning territory. We intended to enter for
securing our borders and preventing separatist terrorist organizations
from settling there.

For example, today we have entered Syria with Operation Euphrates
Shield. Are we in Syria for the sake of territory? There is no doubt
that we do not have any designs in anyone's territory but we are
obliged to do this for the sake of the security of our borders.

Had we been able to secure our borders then, the calamity called the
PKK would hot have grown this much and it would not have hurt us so
much.

Currently the same thing is happening in the north of Syria. We have
undersigned great success with the first Operation Euphrates Shield,
but this is not enough. This is because by giving the PYD 1,000 trucks
full of arms and ammunition, the United States wants to root out the
Turks from there, to ensure that that strip reaches the Mediterranean
by means of Azez, and to allocate the entire northern Syria to the
Kurds.

Turkey should never allow this.

Turkey should not believe the United States's lies to the effect that
those weapons will only be used against DA'ISH and it should take the
required steps. The requirement in question is a second operation and
blocking the route from the north to the Mediterranean.

The bells for the independence in northern Iraq have already begun
tolling. Even though the United States says that now is not a good
time, it should be known that tomorrow is an unknown tomorrow!

Look, Israel has already announced that it will recognize Kurdistan,
which was placed before it just like a plum!

A British, Israeli, and American game is being played in the Middle
East and projects are being put into practice step by step.

Turkey should spoil this game before it becomes a part of it!

August 29 hosted the schoolchildren, who demonstrated excellent
results in the academic year 2016-17, graduates awarded with Gold
Medals as well as the laureates of the 2017 international subject
Olympiads – Kangaroo International Olympiad on Mathematics and the Bee
Armenian Language competition - from the educational establishments of
the Republic, press service of the President’s Office told Armenpress.

At the traditional meeting the President addressed a welcoming speech
to the participants. Serzh Sargsyan responded to the questions of the
participants after which the graduates and schoolchildren received
awards – medals, certificates from the President of Armenia and the
Minister of Education and Science.

President delivered congratulatory remarks at the meeting.

“Dear children,

Dear youth,

I sincerely welcome you at the residence of the President of the
Republic of Armenia. Once again I warmly congratulate you on the
achievements recorded in the international subject Olympiads -
Kangaroo International Olympiad on Mathematics and the Bee Armenian
Language competition, and of course, on the graduation of school with
excellence. Your achievements give strength and power to our people,
encourage me and inspire belief towards our country’s future. By this
we want to state that we link our country’s future with the
development of science and education and want your example to be
contagious for your peers, relatives and classmates. The thirst for
science and education, if it can be considered infection from good
point of view, should not be ever prevented, quite the contrary, we
want that infection to spread everywhere.

Our people have always liked and strived to science. Dear children and
youth, you know that the Armenian people are spread across the world,
and wherever Armenians reached, first of all they have set up a
school. Of course, they have built a school in order to preserve the
native language, but they have never been limited only to the native
language, and the leading that exists in the world, they have always
tried to understand it, transfer to the homeland, localize and develop
it. Thanks to this our people managed to overcome these difficulties
for thousands of years and reached to the 21st century. Thus, your
love towards science contributes to the longevity of our people.

I want to thank you for your deep curiosity and diligence since it is
impossible to reach major success only with curiosity. I perfectly
imagine the hard work done by our distinguished children, Gold medal
winners, our youth who received awards at the international subject
Olympiads. It is my desire that this purposefulness, curiosity and
especially diligence accompany you throughout your life.

The basis of goodness is knowledge. The basis of competitiveness is
knowledge. In this regard, the Republic of Armenia is always ready to
stand together with all of you. I want for you to study at other best
universities after graduation of school, also after graduating high
educational institution or even half of the way. After graduating from
the universities of Armenia or other countries, I would like most of
you to be engaged in science since as I said the love and skills
towards science and education have reached our people up to the 21st
century. Thus, you should continue the efforts of the best individuals
of our medieval and modern times. We are always ready to assist and
support you.

Of course, I am grateful to your parents who have been able to spread
this infection on you on the one hand, and have always tried to create
conditions so that you can study good and reach results on the other
hand. But know, you are the main hero, you are the creator of the
history. Your parents and teachers assist you with love, support from
the positions of more knowledgeable people, but you will hardly be
able to reach serious achievements without your desire and diligence”.
