Armenpress News Agency , Armenia February 7, 2018 Wednesday Monaco Prince cuts short his tour to meet with Aram Khachaturyan: Renowned composer's meetings with Royal families YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 7, ARMENPRESS. During his tours renowned Armenian composer Aram Khachaturyan met with the leaders of countries, received interesting offers, as well as valuable gifts from them. ARMENPRESS this time presents the composer’s meetings with the Royal families. The composer was on tour in Belgium in 1960. Queen Elizabeth was unable to attend his concert due to health problems, but after the concert people approached Khachaturyan and conveyed the Queen’s invitation to meet. Accepting the invitation with pleasure, the next day the renowned composer and his wife were hosted at the Queen’s Palace. “They had a very warm and interesting meeting. The Queen Elizabeth had a great contribution in the art world the evidence of which is the international contest named after her. She also played violin and has been taught by renowned violinist Eugène Ysaÿe. This is the reason that the Armenian composer and the Queen talked about the art, the innovations in the music art, the composer’s creative path and the Brussels Symphonic Orchestra. They have also talked about people they know among whom were world-renowned musicians”, director of the Aram Khachaturyan House-Museum Armine Grigoryan said. The Queen also had a little knowledge of Russian the evidence of which is her note written on a photograph. The photos of this meeting are still kept in the Museum. In 1973 the composer was invited to France where his 70th anniversary was celebrated with a great event. During this tour he decided to visit Monaco. During this period the Monaco Prince and his wife, world-renowned star Grace Kelly, were outside the country, but being informed about the composer’s visit, they returned from London cutting short their tour and immediately arrived in the house where Khachaturyan stopped. The Prince as well was very fond of art and he organized different contests and festivals in his country every two years dedicated to the composer art. In 1974 he not only invited the composer to the contest-festival, but also asked to write a new work to be performed at the opening ceremony of the festival. Again on a concert tour in Iran in 1965, the Persian Shah showed his sympathy to the composer by providing one of his personal vehicles to the composer for touring the country. The Persian Shah and his wife also attended Khachaturyan’s concert during which the Second Symphony was performed. Usually, after the completion of the concert the Shah left the concert hall, but this case differed from the remaining ones. The Shah and his wife applauded the maestro as a result of which he again performed his works. Then the Shah and his wife went to the backstage to meet with the renowned composer the evidence of which is the photo still maintained. The Persian Shah handed over many gifts to the composer, among which was quite a valuable Persian blue carpet. Khachatruyan brought it to Moscow to decorate his apartment. In 1961 during the trip in Egypt, President Gamal Abdel Nasserwelcomed him at the airport. The Egyptian President also attended the composer’s concert. He handed over one of the highest certificates of the country to Aram Khachaturyan for the great contribution in the field of art. During the same tour Khachaturyan also met with President of Yugoslavia Josip Broz Tito. Henrikh Mkhitaryan provided three assists on a dream home debut as Arsenal cruised to a 5-1 victory over Everton at the Emirates Stadium. The Armenia international joined the Gunners last month from Manchester United in a swap deal which saw Alexis Sanchez move in the opposite direction. Mkhitaryan struggled to showcase his creative talents under Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford but the early evidence suggests he will thrive under Arsene Wenger. After an encouraging cameo performance against Swansea in midweek, the 29-year-old took just six minutes to lay on Aaaron Ramsey’s opener, latching onto fellow home debutant Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s and lashing a low centre across goal for the Welshman to tap home.
Eight minutes before the break the former Borussia Dortmund stars were at it again, with Mkhitaryan feeding Aubameyang, admittedly in an offside position, who delicately flicked the ball over the advancing Jordan Pickford. Mkhitaryan completed at hat-trick of assists with 16 minutes remaining, again firing the ball across the penalty area from the left wing, allowing Aaron Ramsey the chance to sweep home the first treble of his Premier League career. Even Jose Mourinho admitted both clubs secured themselves great deals when Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang swapped teams, but Arsenal fans who became frustrated by their old No.7’s selfish playing style are already enjoying their new one’s selfless attitude. Sanchez, who opened his goalscoring account in fortuitous circumstances for United on Saturday, provided three assists in 19 matches for the Gunners this season and Mkhitaryan has already equaled that tally in the space of 90 minutes.

11th Anniversary of Dink Assassination Commemorated in Istanbul
Paylan Calls on Parliament to Investigate Dink Murder
ISTANBUL—Large crowds flocked to the former address of Turkish-Armenian weekly newspaper Agos in Istanbul on Friday to commemorate the late journalist Hrant Dink on the 11th anniversary of his assassination, reported the Hurriyet Daily Newspaper.
Dink was shot dead with three bullets on Jan. 19, 2007, at around 3 p.m. in front Agos’ then-headquarters.
On Thursday, Garo Paylan, an Armenian member of the Turkish Parliament representing the opposition People’s Democratic Party (HDP,) submitted a written proposal to the Turkish parliament calling for an investigating of the developments following Dink’s murder and preventing similar such acts.
He stressed that Hrant Dink was making efforts toward Turkey’s democratization as well as peoples’ solidarity and peace, according to information published on the HDP’s official website.
Every year since the assassination, mourners have attended a commemoration ceremony for him, laying carnations at the spot where he was killed. This year placards reading “Justice for Hrant” were attached to the former newspaper building.
Before the commemoration ceremony kicked off, police closed off the Haskargazi Street and side streets linking to it to traffic.
Police officers allowed people wishing to join the ceremony to enter through barricades, subjecting them to brief security searches.
Despite 11 years having passed, little progress has been made regarding Dink’s case.
Ogün Samast, who was aged 17 at the time of the shooting, was jailed for 23 years in 2011 for the killing. But speculation about the involvement of other groups inside and outside the state apparatus has persisted, and a number of slow-moving investigations are still ongoing.

"In your structure I must stress that the fight against such corrosive phenomena must be more acute and tough, and my expectations in this area are very large from you. NATO Encouraged by Renewed Karabakh Talks
YEREVAN—A high-ranking NATO leader, who is on an official visit to Armenia, on Monday expressed the Western defense alliance’s support for the Karabakh conflict resolution process, saying that NATO is encouraged by recent diplomatic efforts toward that end.
NATO’s Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller urged Armenia and Azerbaijan to work together to advance the Karabakh conflict peace process.
“This is a case, where I think it’s very important for Armenia and Azerbaijan to be working together,” Gottemoeller said during a meeting with faculty and students of the Yerevan State University.
“I’m glad that the foreign ministers came together at the OSCE ministerial meeting in Vienna. The presidents also met recently in Vienna. I think that’s excellent,” she said.
“I’m delighted that the US is engaging on the highest level along with Russia and France. I hope to see new momentum in resolving that crisis, and I think it will be good for the entire region,” she added.
While in Yerevan, Gottemoeller met with President Serzh Sarkisian, Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian and Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan to discuss further cooperation between NATO and Armenia, which is part of the alliance’s Partnership for Peace initiative.
“Armenia continues its important contribution to the collective efforts towards the establishment of international peace and stability undertaken by the UN and under UN auspices by transforming from a security consumer into a security provider,” Nalbandian told reporters during a joint press conference with Gottemoeller.
“25 years ago a foundation for the partnership relations between Armenia and North Atlantic Treaty Organization were laid. During that quarter century our collaboration has developed and enriched with new content,” Minister Nalbandian said.
“Armenia-NATO 5th Individual Partnership Action Plan is being successfully implemented. We emphasized the importance of the practical implementation of the activities of the NATO Trust Fund in Armenia,” he added.
“Our country itself, having serious security challenges, contributes to the preservation and strengthening of security and stability in other parts of the world,” the Minister noted.
Nalbandian said that he briefed Gottemoeller on the recent developments around the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the joint efforts of Armenia and the Minsk Group Co-Chair countries aimed at a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
“In this context, we value NATO’s support to the efforts and approaches of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs,” Armenia’s top diplomat stated.
Gottemoeller hailed the participation of Armenian peacekeeping brigades in the NATO-led operations in Afghanistan and Kosovo, attached importance to the development of new capacities, the joint efforts targeted at improving cooperation, collaboration in military education and other directions.
While meeting with Defense Minister Sargsyan, the sides exchanged views on the Armenia-NATO Individual Partnership Action Plan, NATO’s support for defense reforms in Armenia.
The Defense Minister briefed Gottemoeller on amendments to defense legislation connected with the changes of the situation at the border, improvement of military service, modernization of military education, improvement of the system of civilian and public oversight over the armed forces.
