NKR Defense Minister, Lieutenant-General Seyran Ohanyan declared
today in Yerevan that the latest meetings between the Presidents of
Armenia and Azerbaijan "cannot be considered negotiations process."

Seyran Ohanyan said that Azerbaijan continues to oppose the involvement
of NKR authorities in the talks, "which evidences that the Azeri side
does not want to resume the full negotiations process."

Commenting on the Azeri statements on resolving the question in a
military way, Seyran Ohanyan declared, "We are not afraid of war and
in case of necessity we are confident of our ability to resolving
military problems."

In Whose Interests Is Bryza’s Revelation?

IN WHOSE INTERESTS IS BRYZA’S REVELATION?

The principles of settlement of the Karabakh issue, "uncovered" by the
OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair Mathew Bryza, are not in the interests of
Karabakh, stated Vahram Atanesyan, Chair of the Committee of External
Relations of the NKR National Assembly.

According to him, these revelations were addressed to the Armenian
public because they are in the interests of Azerbaijan. "In particular,
I mean the claims to return territories and uncertainty over the time
of settlement of the problem of status," said Vahram Atanesyan.

Earlier an Azerbaijani foreign ministry official affirmed that the
"revealed" proposals are in the interests of Baku. It is interesting,
however, that the president of Armenia Robert Kocharyan stated that
the same proposals had been rejected by Azerbaijan.

Davit Babayan, political scientist, says Bryza’s step shows that there
are major controversies and hurdles in the process of settlement, which
are difficult to overcome. "Apparently, the talks for settlement did
not produce significant results," said Davit Babayan. He also thinks
that the logic of Azerbaijan and certain international organizations
is unacceptable for Karabakh.

"Some of the liberated areas have the same role for the security of
Karabakh as the independent state. Real independence is impossible
without these areas," said the political scientist.

WASHINGTON, JUNE 26, NOYAN TAPAN – ARMENIANS TODAY. Four leading
Congressional friends of Armenia, George Radanovich (R-CA) and Adam
Schiff (D-CA), and Congressional Caucus Co-Chairmen Frank Pallone
(D-NJ) and Joe Knollenberg (R-MI), have strongly encouraged Secretary
of State Condoleezza Rice to reconsider the recall of Ambassador Evans,
reported the Armenian National Committee of America.

In a June 22nd letter, the legislators noted that "after months of
speculation," the recall of Ambassador Evans "was confirmed when the
President nominated Richard Hoagland to serve as the new United States
Ambassador to the Republic of Armenia on May 23. While there has been
no official acknowledgement that Ambassador Evans removal was a result
of his February 2005 statement that the Armenian Genocide was the first
genocide of the 20th Century, all evidence points to that conclusion."

"We join with Armenian Americans across the country in thanking
Congressman Radanovich, Schiff, Pallone, and Knollenberg – the four
lead authors of the Armenian Genocide Resolution – for once again
taking the lead in challenging the State Department’s failed policy
of complicity in Turkey’s denial of this crime against all humanity,"
said Aram Hamparian, Executive Director of the ANCA. "We share their
belief that Ambassador Evans’ recall should be reversed and look
forward, in the days ahead, to learning more about the circumstances
behind this ill-advised, morally unjustifiable, and increasingly
controversial action."

The Congressional letter closed with the four legislators expressing
their belief that "the United States must formally recognize
the Armenian Genocide, and we will continue to work towards that
goal. Allowing John Evans to continue as Ambassador to Armenia sends
a strong message on the necessity of Turkish recognition, and will be
an important step in establishing the U.S. position on the Armenian
Genocide."

US SECRETARY OF STATE URGED TO REVIEW RECALLING OF JOHN EVANS

Four US congressmen, George Radanovich, Frank Pallone, Adam Schiff
and Joe Knollenberg, called on US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice
to review the recalling of US ambassador to Armenia John Evans. The
congressmen underscored that though John Evan’s recognition of the
Armenian Genocide is not the cause of recalling, all facts speak for
that presumption.

"By allowing John Evans to carry on his diplomatic mission in Armenia
the US would send a powerful signal to Turkey to recognize the Armenian
Genocide," the congressmen said. In their letter to Mrs. Rice they
emphasized the need for the US to recognize the Armenian Genocide.

As it turns out it is not only pleasant but also available to have
a rest in Thailand. For instance, one of the Yerevan tour agencies
offers a 7-day rest in Antalia per a person for 7 – 8thousand USD
whereas 15-day rest in Thailand – for 1500 USD. According to Arpine
Martirosyan, manager of the tour agency the prices are determined
by the cheapness of hotel system; the services of Turkish hotels
are comparatively more expensive which has its direct outcome on
ticket price.

The busiest travel lines as usual are Turkey (Antalia) and
Bulgaria. The number of travelers to Croatia and Montenegro has also
increased this year. Anna Davtyan, head of another tour agency claims
that mainly people who got acquainted with the wonderful nature of
those places during the Soviet period leave for these countries. But
while developing tourism in these directions they counter certain
obstacles. The main obstacle is the low level of the hotels. By the
way, all the tourist agencies unanimously claim that the number of
travelers increases year by year. Most travelers are from medium and
high strata of the society.

According to their data 30% of Armenians buy tickets to local rest
homes. The most striking is that it is more expensive to rest in
Armenia than on the shores of the Black or Mediterranean Seas.
