YEREVAN. – Armenian National Assembly (NA) President Ararat Mirzoyan received a deputy mandate, and then was elected NA President without being dismissed from the position of First Deputy Prime Minister. There is no document on the termination of his powers as such. The Office of President Armen Sarkissian has informed this in response to a respective query by Pastinfo.

Pastinfo had written to the President's Office asking to inform when Mirzoyan was dismissed from the post of First Deputy Prime Minister—which no longer exists.

The decree on appointing Ararat Mirzoyan as First Deputy PM was signed on May 11, 2018, and as a result of the snap parliamentary elections that took place in December, he was elected an MP and then speaker of the NA.

"The Armenian president did not receive a proposal from the government to dismiss Ararat Mirzoyan from the post of First Deputy Prime Minister, and, consequently, the corresponding decree of the President was not adopted," the response from the presidential office reads.

In fact, Ararat Mirzoyan had held two incompatible positions – the First Deputy Prime Minister and the President of the National Assembly – at the same time, according to Pastinfo.

Armenian government to sell its share in Granatus Ventures

ARKA, Armenia
Oct 24 2019

YEREVAN, October 24. /ARKA/. The government of Armenia will sell its stake in the Granatus Ventures, the first venture capital firm in Armenia, Economy Minister Tigran Khachatryan said at a government meeting on Thursday. He said the government holds 1,412 shares in the firm.

In 2013, the Armenian government invested $3 million in the creation of the Granatus Ventures private venture fund. It was agreed at that time that if its activity would be successful and other investors would be ready to buy out the state share, the government would not impede. The minister explained that the buyer will have also to pay an extra 3% annual interest.

"After the completion of all procedures, the government will receive its money. Our main goal is to cede additional profit to the private sector. The experience of the fund shows that venture funds can get high incomes and participate in interesting private investment programs in Armenia," Khachatryan said.

Granatus Ventures was registered in July 2013. Its co-founders are Singapore-based venture investor of Armenian origin Pierre Hennes, head of the consulting company EV Consulting Manuk Hergnyan and technological entrepreneur Yervand Sarkisyan.

Granatus Ventures provides investment, expertise and networks to startups worldwide that leverage Armenia's potential as an emerging technology hub. –0—

Report: Violations revealed at High Voltage Electric Networks of Armenia Report: Violations revealed at High Voltage Electric Networks of Armenia

17:01, 17.10.2019

As a result of the audit, a document evidencing the presence of actual violations was found in the 'High Voltage Electric Networks of Armenia' company, said the representative of the Audit Chamber Karen Arustamyan on Thursday.

According to him, the document, which caused certain doubts among the auditors, was sent for study to the prosecutor's office. Discrepancies between High-Voltage Electric Networks of Armenia and international contractors were revealed. As a result, the reconstruction of the Charentsavan substation has been suspended since 2017, allegedly due to changes in the requirements for the power system.

"There was a program, and subsequently its implementation decided that it was not practical. And this is the case when the contractor has already been paid 1.2 million dollars in advance," he said.

He noted that until the last day of the audit, program performance indicators ranged from 21 to 44%. It was also noted that the contractor company had not properly fulfilled its obligations.

DTLA Film Festival Features Its First Armenian Film, Supported by the USC
Institute of Armenian Studies

The 11th annual DTLA Film Festival, which is set to run from October 23 to 27
at Regal L.A. LIVE, will be featuring its first Armenian film, with the support
of the USC Institute of Armenian Studies.

This year’s festival includes foreign films from around the globe, all making
their Los Angeles premieres, including the narrative feature “Yeva” by Armenian
Iranian director Anahid Abad. “Yeva” is the first film of Armenian content and
language to ever be included in the festival, and it's the first film being
presented that’s set in Armenia and has an Armenian director.

“It’s so important to be able to understand that real life exists in conflict
zones, and this film does just that,” said Salpi Ghazarian, director of the USC
Institute of Armenian Studies. “That’s why we’re so pleased that the Armenian
participation in the DTLA Film Festival is about people and lives -- especially
women’s lives. Needless to say the message is universal.”

The film will screen at the festival on October 26 at 6:15pm at Regal L.A LIVE.
The screening will be followed by an audience Q&A with director Anahit Abad.
Tickets can be purchased at
https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.dtlaff.com_&d=DwIGaQ&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=LVw5zH6C4LHpVQcGEdVcrQ&m=pVbpnF2zovNV7TGWzcb2Nx3zUitePv9NZCrAeiJykzY&s=BaISReNHeuq2AeliZFGIw1EC3EbUDiVjyva-CpZhixw&e=
. Yeva will also be screening at the Laemmle theatre in Glendale on November
1.

The film is an intimate drama, in which a woman suspected of murder flees from
Yerevan to an Armenian village in Nagorno-Karaakh with her young daughter. The
heroine, Yeva, returns to a place she briefly worked as a doctor during the
Nagorno-Karabakh War between Armenia and Azerbaijan, hoping she won't be
recognized. As she integrates into the rhythm of village life, Yeva's memories
of the war come flooding back, as she tries to conceal her identity.

"While the film is set in Armenia, the story has a universal message about the
sacrifices and strengths of motherhood and family, which resonated with us,”
said Karolyne Sosa, Director of Programming, DTLA Film Festival. ‘Yeva' has
already screened and won several awards at major international film festivals
this year. We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to present the U.S. West
Coast premiere of the film.”

“Yeva” was selected as Armenia’s official submission to the 90th Academy Awards
in the Best Foreign Language Film category for 2017. The film is co-produced by
Iran’s Farabi Cinema Foundation and the National Cinema Center of Armenia.

The 94-minute film is set in Armenia and has an all-Armenian cast, including
Narina Grigorian, Shant Hovhanisian, Sergay Tovmasian, Vrejh Kasoni, Marjan
Avadisyan, Roz Avadisova, Digran Davtian, Nanor Patrosian, Avalian Adamian and
Marat Davtian. The film was banned in Turkey due to interference from
Azerbaijan’s government.

A total of 36 feature-length movies – 17 narrative and 19 documentary — are
slated to screen at the DTLA Film Festival, with the majority making their
World Premiere, West Coast Premiere or Los Angeles premieres.

The DTLA Film Festival was established in 2008 with a mission of reflecting the
vibrant and eclectic urbanism that defines downtown L.A. Through the exhibition
of a wide array of independent films by and about groups traditionally
underrepresented in the commercial Hollywood film industry – notably women,
people of color, and the LGBTQ communities – DTLA Film Festival has established
itself as a platform that has continually pushed the creative envelope.
