Analyst: Armenian FM was 30 minutes late for meeting with Sen. Menendez

Panorama
Armenia – May 25 2022

Political analyst Suren Sargsyan has revealed details of Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan's visit to the United States, saying he has been half an hour late for a meeting with Senator Bob Menendez.

“While in Washington, D.C., Ararat Mirzoyan was about 30 minutes late for a meeting with U.S. Senator Menendez,” he wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.

Republican Senator Jim Risch, who was also supposed to take part in the meeting, was “outraged” and wanted to leave after waiting for 20 minutes, but was persuaded to wait a little longer.

The senators were annoyed not only at the minister’s tardiness, but also about the fact that no reasonable explanations were provided over it, Sargsyan said.

“Even Biden does not make an official like Menendez, who is also a good friend of Armenia, wait. I won’t be surprised if Bob Menendez, Chairman the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, does not want to communicate with Armenian delegations from now on,” he said.

“Incidentally, this is not the first scandal concerning Menendez. In 2020, then MP Makunts requested an urgent meeting with Menendez, but as the community press later reported, the only purpose of the meeting was to have a photo together,” the analyst added.

Mirzoyan: Ankara synchronizes Armenian-Turkish process with Armenian-Azerbaijani relations

ARMINFO
Armenia – May 25 2022

ArmInfo.Ankara synchronizes the Armenian-Turkish process with the Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated this on May 25 from the rostrum of the parliament during the government hour.

Thus, in response to the MP's question about the role of meeting  places between the representatives of Armenia and Turkey, the  minister admitted that he does not attach importance to the place of  the meeting and did not rule out that in the future the above  meetings will be held both in Yerevan and Ankara.

"At the moment, I can only say that, unfortunately, no matter how  verbally it is asserted about the process without preconditions,  nevertheless, our Turkish partners, to a certain extent, synchronize  it with the relations developing between Armenia and Azerbaijan. They  do this as part of their narrative," Mirzoyan said.

According to him, this, of course, does not become a precondition,  but such an approach does not give constructiveness to the process  and the environment.

"Discussions are ongoing. But, unfortunately, there is no tangible  progress yet. Armenia's position remains the same. Armenia wants and  is ready to normalize relations and open borders. We would like to  see the same attitude from Turkey. I have already said about the  Azerbaijani narrative and various gestures of the head of the Turkish  Foreign Ministry," Mirzoyan summed up.

It should be noted that the third meeting of the Special  Representatives of Armenia and Turkey Vice Speaker of the National  Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Ruben Rubinyan and Ambassador  Serdar Kilic to normalize relations took place in Vienna on May 3.  The special representatives confirmed that the ultimate goal of the  talks is a full-fledged settlement between Armenia and Turkey, which  was agreed upon during their first meeting in Moscow on January 14.   The start of the normalization process was announced on December 13,  2021 by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu. At the same time,  he stressed that Ankara will act in coordination with Azerbaijan  regarding steps to normalize relations with Armenia.

Russian political analyst: Early withdrawal of peacekeepers from Karabakh means radically damage relations with Russia

NEWS.am
Armenia –

Russian political analyst Nikolay Silaev, in a conversation with NEWS.am told that he thinks the current situation in Karabakh will last for a long time and that all the sides involved understand this.

According to his assessment, there will be no attempts to significantly move the situation on the ground until the end of the military operation in Ukraine, because after 24 February, the stakes for everyone have grown very much, first of all for Russia.

"This is no longer quite the Russia that everyone was dealing with on 9 November 2020. To demand the early withdrawal of Russian peacekeepers from Karabakh means radically spoiling relations with Russia. Do any of the parties need to radically damage relations with Russia? I would not expect this.

Of course, the Russian military presence on the territory that Azerbaijan considers its own is very sensitive for Azerbaijan. The situation that developed in the region as a result of the second Karabakh war does not satisfy Armenia, but any stable international order is always completely unsatisfactory for all the parties involved.

I would not expect any radical changes. It seems to me that the situation that has developed can last for a long time," Silaev noted.

He said that Russia is interested in strengthening good relations with both Armenia and Azerbaijan, especially since all global logistics are changing now because of the sanctions.

"A new impetus for the development of transport communications is important, and good relations with Armenia and good relations with Azerbaijan are important for us here. It is important for us to unblock communications, the North-South transport corridor," the expert added.

"We will not allow the violations of the deputies’ rights to continue,” Saghatelyan said, urging police officers to open the door.
