US President Donald Trump told Axios he is planning to terminate birthright citizenship, potentially setting up another constitutional standoff, CNBC reports.

Trump said Monday he will sign an executive order that would remove the right to citizenship for babies of noncitizens and unauthorized immigrants born on U.S. soil.

“It was always told to me that you needed a constitutional amendment. Guess what? You don’t,” Trump said in the interview by Axios on HBO, the news site’s new documentary series.

“We’re the only country in the world where a person comes in and has a baby, and the baby is essentially a citizen of the United States … with all of those benefits,” Trump said. “It’s ridiculous. It’s ridiculous. And it has to end.”

“It’s in the process. It’ll happen … with an executive order.”

However, Canada and many other countries grant birthright citizenship.

Opponents will argue that it’s not within the president’s power to change birthright citizenship.

The 14th Amendment to the Constitution says:

“All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”

Trump’s comments come as he continues to push a hard anti-immigration line ahead of next week’s midterm elections. On Monday, the Defense Department announced plans to deploy 5,200 active duty troops to the U.S.-Mexico border by end of the week as a migrant caravan made its way north from Central America.

YEREVAN. – The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of Armenia has disseminated new information regarding the newborn twin boys who were found at the courtyard of an orphanage in Gyumri.

The mother of these twins on Saturday went to a police station and the said orphanage, the ministry informed on Facebook.

Subsequently, it became clear that she truly wishes to raise them herself.

The mother of these babies realized that she had made a wrong decision based on her social conditions, and she admitted that she does not picture her future without her “little ones.”

As reported earlier, the twin boys were found at the courtyard of the said orphanage, and inside a plastic bag.

The biological mother of these babies was found sometime thereafter. According to police, she is an 18-year-old resident of Ararat Province.

The mother of these newborn twins had refused to care for her babies.

Army soldier wounded from shot fired from Azerbaijani side

Serviceman Hayk Sargsyan has received a gun wound from the shot fired from the Azerbaijani side at about 12.10 p.m. local time on October 23 in one of the south-eastern units of the Artsakh’s Defense Army.

The wounded serviceman was transported to hospital. The doctors assess his condition satisfactory.

Investigation  is underway to reveal the circumstances of the case.

The post-revolutionary stage of Armenian-Russian relations can be seen
as finished, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.

"I had a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin in
Dushanbe. We discussed issues on the Armenian-Russian agenda.
Following our last meeting, if you remember, I've said that we may
acknowledge that our relations have truly reached a new level and have
never been at such a high level. Following today's meeting, I would
afford this wording: the transitional post-revolutionary stage of
Armenian-Russian relations can be seen as finished," Pashinyan said
live on his Facebook account.

Pashinyan said Putin and he enjoyed "absolute mutual understanding."

"This doesn't mean we agree on all matters and there are no
differences in our opinions. There are no unsolvable problems in our
relations. An excellent working atmosphere has been formed, we can
discuss any matter in an atmosphere of respect, in an atmosphere of
respect for our sovereignty, and in an atmosphere of non-interference
in our internal affairs. And there are no reasons to be surprised when
the leader of Armenia says about respect for sovereignty in a
conversation with the president of Russia," Pashinyan said.

"The Russian president first started talking [about respect for
sovereignty of other countries] during our first meeting in Sochi,"
Pashinyan said.

"Speaking at a dinner table, Vladimir Putin said he knew there were
opinions that Russia treated sovereignty of its partners with
insufficient respect, which is not the case. He assured me that he
fully respects sovereignty of [Russia's] partners and emphasizes the
importance of the respect for sovereignty principle in our relations.
He said we would work and I would see that this is truly so. And time
has shown that this is truly so," Pashinyan said.

"When I say now about respect for sovereignty, I emphasize this as an
important achievement and a basis that will guarantee natural
development of our relations," he said.

The Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed with the historic document adopted in 1991. The past more than quarter century was a period full of trials, victories and state-building. During this entire period the will power to live free, struggle and triumph has always kept and inspired you, which turned the Pan-Armenian dream into reality.

The declaration of independence laid the foundation for Artsakh’s state-building. In today’s festive atmosphere, we once again remember those who developed it, those who forged the statehood, those who sacrificed their lives and health for it.

By thinking about them, paying homage to them, honoring them, we feel the message from within time to today’s citizens of Artsakh, today’s soldiers, to our entire people: to defend and empower the country, the state, to be a united Armenia, Artsakh and Diaspora.

The best proof of this unity is the present-day independent republic of Artsakh, which is confidently advancing on the path of freedom and democracy by having continuous successes in the process of state-building.

Meghri hydroelectric power station on the border with Iran

Alexander Avanesov. Armenia expects a significant breakthrough in the
construction project of Meghri HPPon the river Araks at Iranian border
. On August 29, RA Minister of Energy Infrastructures and Natural
Resources Arthur Grigoryan stated this at the press conference in
Yerevan, responding to the question of ArmInfo.

According to him, negotiations on the construction of the Meghri
hydropower plant have been in progress since 2006, numerous documents
have been signed, and real progress in this there is still no
progress. The Armenian side presented to its Iranian partners certain
proposals on this project and is waiting for a response in the nearest
future. "On September 2-3, the Armenian delegation hopes to get the
final answer on the Meghri hydropower station during the visit to
Iran," said Arthur Grigoryan.

Earlier, ArmInfo informed that the Mejlis of Iran at the meeting of 18
April, with162 votes "for", 5 "against" and 5 abstentions approved the
bill on the construction of a hydroelectric power station on the Araks
River. The Meghri hydropower plant was considered the most promising
joint Armenian-Iranian project. Although the parties have come to the
final stage of the project and announced the start of construction in
November 2012, the work has not been started yet because of the
limitations of Tehran because of the sanctions. If the project is
completed, the station will become the largest in the Transcaucasus.
According to the project, the construction of a $ 323 million facility
will be financed by the Iranian investment company. Armenia will pay
for its part of the project with electricity produced at the
hydroelectric station itself, and after 15 years the hydroelectric
power station will be transferred to the Armenian side. While the
Armenian-Iranian economic relations can not move from the dead point,
after the lifting of sanctions, economic ties between Tehran and Baku
sharply intensified.

The Iranian parliament approved a bill on the joint construction of
two hydroelectric power stations with Azerbaijan. The bill allows
construction of power plants near the Araks River in the border area,
in the Iranian city of Marazad and the Azerbaijani city of Ordubad.
The document provides for cooperation in the construction of power
stations at the dams of Khoda Afarin and Gyz Galasy, on the Araks
River, as well as the construction of the Ordubad Power Station on the
Azerbaijani side and the power plant in Marazada on the Iranian side.
The ArmInfo agency reported that if the project is implemented, the
water volumes for the Meghri hydropower plant in Armenia may simply
not be enough. Earlier, adviser to the Minister of Energy
Infrastructures and Natural Resources of Armenia Areg Galstyan stated
that due to environmental problems related to the reduction of water
volumes in the Araks River, as well as the increase of water intakes
from Turkey in the northern part of Armenia, it was necessary to
revise this project in the direction of power reduction. If initially
it was planned to build two stations (Meghri - Armenia, Karachilar -
Iran) for 130 MW each and a total power generation of about 850
million kW per year, now the option is considered with a capacity of
100 MW. In this regard, the diameter of the tunnel has been changed,
along which water will flow between the two hydroelectric power
stations.

Dan Bilzerian enjoys time in Lake Sevan

American-Armenian professional poker player, “King of Instagram” Dan Bilzerian visited Lake Sevan in Armenia.

Suelyn Medeiros, Brazilian-American model, made a story on Instagram, stating that she is in Lake Sevan together with Dan Bilzerian.

Dan Bilzerian arrived in Armenia on August 27. He and his brother Adam Bilzerian received an Armenian citizenship on August 27.

He will stay in Armenia for several days, then will depart for Thailand.

Pashinyan’s and Merkel’s positions on many aspects of Armenian-German bilateral relations and regional agenda coincide

The negotiations between Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan and German Chancellor Angela Merkel were very productive. They referred to the Armenian-German relations and regional issues. The positions of the sides on many of the issues coincided, which show that the Armenian-German relations have a great potential for development,  Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan announced in a joint press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on August 24.

“This is the first ever visit of the Chancellor of the GFR to the Republic of Armenia and it can be assessed as a historical visit. This circumstance further emphasizes the recent changes in Armenia. I am glad for the very effective negotiations with the Chancellor that referred to the relations between Armenia and Germany and regional issues. Our positions on many issues of that agenda coincide which show that our relations have a great potential for development. We hope that the level of our cooperation will significantly change. We discussed and reached an agreement that after this visit we will develop a joint agenda for different spheres and will work for their implementation”, Pashinyan said.

Angela Merkel noted that Germany is ready to deepen relations with Armenia. “During the last months we followed the process of the velvet revolution in your country. We talked not only about the development of bilateral relations, but also in the sidelines of the EU. We would like to cooperate in the field of digitalization. Cooperation in the sphere of education is also important. There are schools in Armenia where German language is taught”, the German Chancellor said.

Merkel expressed satisfaction over the signing of the Compressive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement between Armenia and the EU. “Germany will make its contribution to helping Armenia in the implementation of the agreement. We discussed domestic issues referring to anti-corruption struggle. I wish Armenia success in this issue”, Merkel said.

Christ Hovsepyan: The presence of red lines is illegal (video)

Today, the head of “My Human Rights Defender” NGO, Christ Hovsepyan, called on drivers not to pay 12,000 drams for red lines, as, according to him, the presence of paid parking spots, red lines in Yerevan is illegal.

“There is no clear agreement between the Police and the City Hall that allow road police to provide information about drivers. And the City Hall is deprived of the power to fined drivers because the function is only given to the RA Police. The first reason of red lines’ being an illegal decision is this one. “Security Dime” company is video-recording and, in this case as well,  the municipality is considered the body conducting the proceedings ,but the municipality does not have that authority, so this is the second reason,” Hovsepyan said.
