Bulgarian Parliament Rejects Armenia Genocide Bill

BULGARIAN PARLIAMENT REJECTS ARMENIA GENOCIDE BILL

Agence France Presse — English
May 10, 2006 Wednesday 6:57 PM GMT

Bulgaria’s parliament rejected Wednesday a resolution from an
ultra-nationalist party calling on it to recognise as genocide
massacres of Armenians under the Ottoman Empire.

Of the 170 deputies present in the 240-seat parliament, 81 voted
against, 56 supported it and there were 33 abstentions.

The nationalist Ataka (Attack) party had called for parliament to
declare May 24 “a day of remembrance for the victims of Armenian
genocide under the Ottoman Empire”.

But the ruling Socialist-led coalition rejected the proposal, with
left-wing deputies saying it was only aimed at straining ties with
Turkey and relations within the three-party government, which includes
a Turkish minority party.

Armenians claim up to 1.5 million of their kin were slaughtered between
1915 and 1917, as the Ottoman Empire, modern Turkey’s predecessor,
was falling apart but Turkey categorically rejects the claims.

Yerevan, May 10. ArmInfo. The investigation in the criminal case on
the crash of Airbus A320 flying from Yerevan to Sochi on May 3 night
initiated by the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) is still underway.

However, the investigation group has arrived to certain conclusions,
Press Secretary of the RA PGO Gurgen Hambaryan told ArmInfo.

Thus, he said, the investigation group rules out the version of a
terrorist act or shortage of fuel of the possible crash reasons. G.

Hambaryan said more details will be announced after the investigation
is completed.

To recap, the crash killed all on board. 51 of 113 killed were found.

The RA GPO initiated a criminal case on Article 241.3 RA Criminal Code
(violation of the safety rules when exploiting a railway, air and sea
transport). Another criminal case on a similar article was initiated
by the Russian PGO.

Blue Book Turkish Publishers To Stand Trial

BLUE BOOK TURKISH PUBLISHERS TO STAND TRIAL

PanARMENIAN.Net
02.05.2006 00:40 GMT+04:00

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Member of the Republican Party of Turkey, Turkish MP
Sukur Elekdar brought a suit against the authors of the Turkish version
of the Blue Book, the collection of documents of the annihilation of
Armenians in Turkey. Elekdar asserts the introduction slanders him. The
MP demands to amend the “moral damage” with $15 thousand. Besides,
Elekdar raises a claim to author of the opening address Taner Akcam,
over the article published in Bikirim Turkish magazine last year.

In the article Elekdar was criticized as one of the authors of the
letter addressed to the British parliamentarians with a demand to
refute the data published in the book. The authors of the Turkish
version of the book – Umit Erdoglu, Taner Akcam and translator
Ahmet Guner will stand trial May 30, 2006, reported IA Regnum with
a reference to Bianet.

To note the Blue Book, formally knows as “Treatment of Armenians in
the Ottoman Empire in 1915-1919” is a report heard by the British
parliament in 1916. The document proves that the Armenian Genocide
was planned.

Turkish MPs requested the House of Commons to “clarify the issue with
the Blue Book”. The UK Foreign Ministry in the person of Ambassador
Peter Westmacott stated it refuses to discuss the address, since the
“materials the book contains were not refuted and the authority of
its authors cannot be doubted.”
