/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Armenian Boxing Championship in Yerevan will for
the first time host women boxers.

As Armenian Boxing Federation secretary general Lyova Hovhannesyan
told PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, the federation plans to develop women’s
boxing in Armenia. "This time, the championship will feature 7 women
participants in 3 weight categories," he noted.

Haykanush Nazaretyan and Taguhi Hovakimyan will compete on January 30
in 54 kg. weight category. The winner will rival Kristine Martirosyan
in tournament finals.

Ashkhen Simonyan and Anna Hovhannesyan will be competing in 75kg.

weight category.

Women’s boxing first appeared in the Olympic Games at a demonstration
bout in 1904. For most of the 20th century, however, it was banned
in most nations. Its revival was pioneered by the Swedish Amateur
Boxing Association, which sanctioned events for women in 1988. The
British Amateur Boxing Association sanctioned its first boxing
competition for women in 1997. The first event was to be between two
thirteen-year-olds, but one of the boxers withdrew because of hostile
media attention. Four weeks later, an event was held between two
sixteen-year-olds. The A.I.B.A. accepted new rules for Women’s Boxing
at the end of the 20th century and approved the first European Cup for
Women in 1999 and the first World Championship for women in 2001 in
Scranton, PA. Women’s boxing was not featured at the 2008 Olympics;
however, on 14 August 2009, it was announced that the International
Olympic Committee’s Executive Board (EB) had approved the inclusion
of women’s boxing for the Games in London in the 2012 Olympics,
contrary to the expectations of some observers. Although women fought
professionally in many countries, in the United Kingdom the B.B.B.C.

refused to issue licences to women until 1998. By the end of the
century, however, they had issued five such licenses. The first
sanctioned bout between women was in November 1998 at Streatham in
London, between Jane Couch and Simona Lukic.

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ A seminar-discussion devoted to family relations and
a family’s role in society was held Wednesday in Yerevan. The event
was organized upon the initiative of Khachatur Marozyan, Head of the
International Association of Lawyers and Psychologists, who dwelled on
the existing problems in Armenia and activities towards their solution.

The polls conducted by the organizations have revealed a 34% decrease
of marriages and 39%-40% decrease of birth rate over the past 20-30
years.

"Such rate demonstrates the threats faced by our country," Marozyan
stressed, adding that 3 out of 10 court proceedings in Armenia are
divorce suits, with 1 pursuing social goals.

"We want to restore the lost values to prevent a human being from
becoming a social consumer," he said.

At that, he noted that the Armenian Government and Prime Minister
were proposed two projects: to declare a Family Day and celebrate
it on state level and to launch relevant broadcast series on Public
Television.

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ On April 20-May 2, Baku will host World Youth Boxing
Championship, where winners will qualify for participation in 2010
Youth Olympics in Istanbul.

As Day.az reported, Tbilisi hosted a meeting between Armenian and
Azeri representatives, covering details of Armenian boxers’ possible
arrival to Baku.

As the first vice-president of Armenian Boxing Federation Derenik
Gabrielyan told PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, several days ago, Armenian
National Committee representatives visited Georgia, where 20th
anniversary of Georgian National Olympic Committee was celebrated.

Armenian and Azeri representatives had an unofficial discussion on
participation of Armenian boxers in world championship.

As Day.az alleges, Armenian Federation decided to attain the chance
for participation in Singapore Olympics without participation in
World Championship, requesting International Boxing Association for
licenses and receiving a refusal.

Vice president Derenik Gabrielyan stated in reply, that Armenia never
made such a request to AIBA and Azeri press reports are in fact a
disinformation. "We only addressed AIBA with a request to conclude a
trilateral Armenia-Azerbaijan -AIBA agreement, to receive visas and
provide our sportsmen’s safety. We’re waiting to get a reply from
AIBA," he said.

According to Vice -Champion, Armenian boxers will participate in World
Championship in Baku. "We have very strong boxers, who’re currently
competing for first places in international tournament in Donetsk,"
he stressed.

Armenian Defense Minister: Army Service Conditions In Armenia Consta

ARMENIAN DEFENSE MINISTER: ARMY SERVICE CONDITIONS IN ARMENIA CONSTANTLY IMPROVED

ArmInfo
2010-01-25 13:23:00

ArmInfo. Army service conditions in Armenia are constantly improved,
said defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan during his meeting with the
students and the teaching staff of the Yerevan State University
on Monday.

"At many military units even in the bordering regions the conveniences,
educational facilities, relevant technical means, particularly,
polygons, educational centers, do not yield to the ones in the former
Soviet Army. We have achieved such results within the shortest period
of time," the minister said. He said that discipline and interpersonal
relationships have already been improved.

BAKU: Sergei Lavrov: The Principles Of Self-Determination And Territ

SERGEI LAVROV: THE PRINCIPLES OF SELF-DETERMINATION AND TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY CAN NOT PREVAIL OVER EACH OTHER

APA
Jan 22 2010
Azerbaijan

Moscow. Roman Agayev – APA. "There is no precise hierarchy between the
basic principles of the international law and all serious scientists
attach similar importance to the principle of territorial integrity,
people’s right to self-determination and other principles of the
international law.

The only attempt to realize the principle of self-determination
within the framework of the principle of territorial integrity was
in the UN declaration adopted in 1970," said Russian Foreign Minister
Sergei Lavrov at the press conference while answering the APA Moscow
correspondent’s question.

Lavrov commented on the essence of the document: "I do not want
to cite the document in the legal language. But the essence of the
document is that the respect for the state’s territorial integrity
comprises the commitment of the state’s authorities to ensure the
rights of all nations living in its territory, including the right
to self-determination and solve all these problems peacefully. But
if the state uses force for this, then the principle of territorial
integrity is questionable. By the way, it is a splendid example how
Mikhail Saakashvili solved the problem of people’s self-determination
with respect to the nations living in Georgia. Therefore my answer
is simple – none of these principles can prevail over each other,"
he said.

Sergei Lavrov had said during his press conference in Yerevan: "Russia
supporting the solution to Nagorno Karabakh conflict together with
the other OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs wants nothing but the agreement
that will meet the interests of Armenian and Azerbaijani people." APA
reports quoting Novosti-Armenia that to the question "Can Russia’s
energy cooperation with Turkey be more important than the right of
self-determination of Nagorno Karabakh’s people?" Lavrov said: "Simply
it cannot be. When we say that the co-chairs are trying to help the
presidents of the two countries to agree on the principles, on which
the further settlement will be based, it means that these principles
will lay the foundation of the ceasefire agreement covering the legal
commitments. We consider that the position of the Karabakh people must
be taken into consideration in the preparation of the agreement. It
should be agreed and specified in what forms it will be done," he said.

ANC Unable To Find Nikol Pashinyan

ANC UNABLE TO FIND NIKOL PASHINYAN

PanARMENIAN.Net
21.01.2010 17:03 GMT+04:00

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ The Armenian National Congress (ANC) Thursday
released a statement saying that the authorities impede the process of
appealing results of the recent parliamentary elections in constituency
No 10.

In their statement, the activists claim that January 21 is the
last day for submitting documents to RA Constitutional Court,
but Nikol Pashinyan is missing hence the documents so far remain
unsigned. As Pashinyan’s lawyers were informed from National Security
Council’s detention center, the activist has been moved to Nubarashen
penitentiary

ANC finds this a premeditated act aimed to prevent the opposition
from lodging an appeal with RA Constitutional Court.

Winner in January 10 parliamentary elections was Ara Simonyan (National
Unity) who received 7622 votes.

On January 19, 2010, the First Instance court of Kentron and Nork
Marash community of Yerevan has found Haykakan Zhamanak newspaper
editor-in-chief Nikol Pashinyan guilty of organization of disorders
under article 225.1 of the RA Criminal Code and sentenced him to 7
years in prison.

Armenian National Congress: Prior to the February 19, 2008 presidential
elections, several co-thinkers of Armenia’s first President Levon
Ter-Petrosyan created a political alliance – a pan-national movement –
uniting representatives of 20 political parties and initiatives. During
a congress convened on May 2, 2008, Levon-ter-Petrosyan proposed the
idea of creating the Armenian National Congress (ANC), a pro-opposition
political force which was officially founded during an August 1,
2008 congress. ANC calls for the release of the political detainees,
reinstatement of citizens’ constitutional rights and extraordinary
presidential elections in Armenia.
