Anti-Armenian propaganda on www.google.com

AZG Armenian Daily #088, 17/05/2005

Attention!

ANTI-ARMENIAN PROPAGANDA ON

Dear all,

One of the Google’s sponsor is an anti-Armenian website that calls the
Armenian nation a “tribe” (sub humans), denies the Armenian Genocide and
calls the whole nation of Armenia “terrorist.”

Just Google “Armenia” and “Armenian” and you will see this link on your
right as a “sponsored link.”

Please, take a few minutes to voice your concerns by sending e-mail to
[email protected], mail to Google Inc. 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway Mountain
View CA 94043 or call and fax phone: (650) 253-0000 fax: (650) 253-0001

Below is a sample letter that speaks more of this anti-Armenian campaign.
Daily Azg calls on all its readers who stand for the truth to forward the
following letter to [email protected].

“Dear Google,

I would like to express my deepest concerns and disappointment for an
anti-Christian and anti-Armenian propaganda on your website.

While searching “Armenian” or “Armenia” in Google, a “sponsored-link” of
Google appears on the right corner with “Manifesto-Campaign 2003” headline.
The description of the link speaks of campaign against “Armenian terror.”
When you click on the website you appear in a hate site full of immorality,
lies and offences against Christians and Armenians.

The website calls the entire nation of Armenia “terrorist.” The website
calls the Armenian nation “a tribe” (therefore; sub humans). This is an
offense not only against the Armenian nation, but also against the humanity
and the Christian world. Another description for Armenia (which adopted
Christianity in 301AD becoming the first Christian nation on Earth) is he
first organized Christian tribe in terrorism. One of the hilarious lies of
the website is the discovery that Turks are people, with roots deep in
10.000 years of history! (Nobody has ever questioned the historical record
that Turks, originally from China, moved to their modern-day residence in
the 11th century, AD).

The point of the website is to deny the Armenian Genocide, the 90th
anniversary of which was commemorated by the whole world this year.

It is unbelievable and sad to see Google cooperating with these fascist and
racist “activists.” Though the deal between Google and those people is
apparently financial, ethics and morality should have prevented Google
supporting hate speeches.

I hope Google will remove the website and apologize to the Armenian and
Christian world for these offences. Google should announce that it
officially recognizes the Armenian Genocide.

Otherwise, two million Armenian community of California and the rest of the
world will be asked to boycott Google.

If Google does not take any actions to return its credibility and apologize
to the world for supporting those immoral Turkish offenses, Google should be
asked to give explanation in American courts.

Thanks”

Hungarian court adjourns hearing of Azeri officer’s case…

Armenpress

HUNGARIAN COURT ADJOURNS HEARING OF AZERI OFFICER’S CASE UNTIL SEPTEMBER 27

BUDAPEST, MAY 11, ARMENPRESS: A Hungarian court trying the case of an
Azeri officer charged with hacking to death his Armenian counterpart decided
to hold its next session on September 27 after a one-hour-long hearing on
May 10.
Hayk Demoyan, a representative of the Armenian armed forces, told
Armenpress the court heard the results of the forensic medical examination
of the Azeri officer, which he said was somewhat different from the outcome
of a previous such examination .
He said some provisions of the second examination refer to the
psychological condition of the Azeri officer at the moment of the crime,
though, according to Demoyan, the examination’s results are not final. He
said according to the Hungarian law, experts conducting the two
examinations, have to meet and come out with a final conclusion, otherwise a
third examination is possible.
Azerbaijani lieutenant Ramil Safarov used an ax and a knife to kill
Armenian lieutenant Gurgen Margarian in his sleep early morning on February
19, 2004. Both officers were attending three-month English language training
at the Hungarian National Defense University in Budapest as part of the NATO
Partnership for Peace Program.
Hungarian police said the murder was committed with “unusual cruelty” –
the Armenian officer’s head was nearly cut off – and was witnessed by the
victim’s Hungarian roommate who called the police. The Azeri then apparently
intended to kill a second Armenian officer, sleeping in a room nearby, but
was stopped by a Lithuanian officer, who was awakened by the noise.

ANKARA: “Love is a Two Way Street with Schroeder in Turkey”

“Love is a Two Way Street with Schroeder in Turkey”
Yalcin Dogan

Journal of Turkish Weekly
May 7 2005

source: Hurriyet

He has a crucial election coming up on the 22nd of this month. Still he
makes a 24 hour visit to Turkey. Why does the German Prime Minister
do this? There are two reasons. My German counterparts explain:
“Schroeder is giving serious support to Erdogan. He sees for the
first time, after so many years, an atmosphere of stability and
promise-keeping in Turkey.

Of course, Erdogan is critcized from many corners in Turkey, and many
of these criticisms are correct. But Shroeder believes that Erdogan
has brought stability to Turkey.”

There are two people close to Schroeder on the international
platform. One is Putin, the other is Tayyip Erdogan. He sees Putin
often, and is friendly with him. Bush, on the other hand, is distant
from Berlusconi.

Anyway, the second reason is very different from the first. There is
support he wants to receive in exchange for supporting Erdogan!

There are elections in Germany in 2006. And the votes of the Turks..!
An important percentage of the Turks casting votes in the German
elections are AKP-affiliated. Which means the AKP possesses the power
to control one part of the votes in the German election. At least,
this is what Schroeder believes.

Tactical advice from Schroeder

The German Prime Minister’s support is attuned to wiping out fears on
the Turkey-EU front. Schroeder said this clearly in talks with Erdogan:
“Keep focused on the framework of the EU. We will try, as Germany,
to keep the door opened to you.” This is the biggest support given
yet to Turkey on the EU! And then he gets even friendlier! Schroeder,
of all European leaders, has lent the warmest support to the idea
of a joint-commission of Armenians and Turks to look into genocide
accusations. Said Schroeder “A joint commission is a good idea,
but developing diplomatic relations with the Armenians would only
strengthen your hand.” He is even giving tactical advice to Erdogan!

Visit to the Patriarchate by Schroeder

He is giving tactical advice, but he also gets across another message
during his visit. Schroeder, in his brief visit to Turkey, doesn’t
neglect a visit to the Greek Fener Patriarchate. Here, his message to
us is clear: “Open the monastary on Heybeliada.” Some people, however,
are against this. The ‘whys’ and ‘wherefores’ here are not clear. There
is a double standard at work though, since the Turks have been able
to open the schools they want with the activities they want in Germany.

Next year there are elections in Germany. And Schroeder could lose
this time. Which is why he has to use the opportunties provided to
him in Turkey now.

Schroeder Says Referendums In E.U.-member Countries Will Not Affect Turkey

Turkish Press
May 7 2005

ANKARA: (AA) – German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder said on Wednesday
that any referendum to be held in a EU-member country about the
European Constitution would not affect Turkey’s EU process.

Schroeder, who is currently paying a working visit to Turkey, met
today Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Erdogan expressed his uneasiness
about the recognition of the so-called Armenian genocide by some
European parliaments, without any proper investigation on the issue.

On his part, Chancellor Schroeder highlighted the importance of
economic development in Turkey.

IT HAPPENED TODAY . . .

1891 The world-famous Carnegie Hall opened in New York. Among the
opening night attractions was Tchaikovsky conducting his Marche
Solennelle. On this date in 1991, the hall’s 100th birthday celebration
featured violinist Isaac Stern, tenor Placido Domingo, soprano Jessye
Norman, cellist Mstislav Rostropovich and conductor Zubin Mehta.

1908 The first Alberta Music Festival was held in Edmonton. It was
the earliest musical competition of its kind in Canada.

1942 Country superstar Tammy Wynette, whose real name was Virginia
Wynette Pugh, was born in Mississippi. Stand by Your Man, which topped
the country charts in 1968, was the biggest-selling single by a woman
in country music history. Her other No. 1 hits included The Ways to
Love a Man, He Loves Me All the Way and We’re Gonna Hold On — a 1973
duet with George Jones. Wynette and Jones were married from 1969 to
’75. Wynette died from a blood clot in her lungs at her Nashville
home on April 6, 1998.

1968 Buffalo Springfield played its final show in Long Beach, Calif.
The band made just three albums in two years, but its 1967 hit, For
What It’s Worth, became an anthem for the hippie generation. Two group
members, Stephen Stills and Canada’s Neil Young, became part of Crosby,
Stills, Nash and Young.

1972 Blues and folk singer Rev. Gary Davis died of a heart attack in
Hammonton, N.J., at 76. He’d been singing on street corners and small
clubs for more than 25 years. Davis’s composition, Samson and Delilah,
was recorded by Peter, Paul and Mary. His finger-picked guitar style
influenced such rock-era artists as Ry Cooder, Taj Mahal and Jorma
Kaukonen.

1982 Jazz vibraphonist Cal Tjader, who may well have been the
greatest non-Latino leader of Latin jazz groups, died in Manila at
56. Tjader played with pianists Dave Brubeck and George Shearing
before going out on his own in the mid-’50s. Over the next three
decades, he recorded dozens of albums, most of them in a Latin vein.
Tjader even had a minor pop hit in 1965 with Soul Sauce, a reworking
of a Dizzy Gillespie tune.

1984 It was a marriage of rock singers as Jim Kerr of Simple Minds
wed Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders. They broke up five years later.

1990 Artists B. B. King, Joe Cocker, Roberta Flack, the Moody Blues
and Randy Travis gathered in Liverpool for a hometown tribute to the
late John Lennon.

1992 The CBC announced that The Tommy Hunter Show had been
cancelled after 27 years as a weekly series. It was North America’s
longest-running network music show.

1993 Cher went to the capital of the former Soviet republic of
Armenia aboard a chartered cargo jet carrying about $3 million worth
of privately donated humanitarian aid. Cher, who’s half Armenian,
called on Western nations to aid the people of Armenia, which was
fighting an undeclared war with neighbouring Azerbaijan.

1996 Members of the Rankin Family received honorary doctor of music
degrees from Acadia University in Wolfville, N.S.

1997 Crosby, Stills and Nash helped mark the 27th anniversary of
the Kent State University shootings with a concert at the Kent, Ohio
campus. The group performed their hit, Ohio, written by Neil Young
after the killing of four students by National Guardsmen during an
anti-war demonstration on May 4, 1970.

1997 Bruce Springsteen received the Polar Music Prize — and $133,000
— from King Carl Gustav of Sweden. Springsteen was cited for being an
“uncompromising steward of the essential qualities of rock.”

1998 A stage version of the 1977 movie Saturday Night Fever opened in
London. Starring Australian actor Adam Garcia, the stage version had
most of the movie’s disco music plus two new songs by the Bee Gees.
Young fans clash

1987 Six people were arrested and about 20 were injured after
riot police in Milan, Italy, fired tear gas during clashes with
rock-throwing fans locked out of a Neil Young concert.

Kerkorian plays automotive roulette one more time

Kerkorian plays automotive roulette one more time

Reuters
05/04/05 19:21 ET

DETROIT (Reuters) – It has been about a decade since Las Vegas
casino mogul Kirk Kerkorian launched an unsuccessful bid to take over
Chrysler, but he doesn’t seem to have lost his passion for high-stakes
gambling and rolls of the automotive roulette wheel.

The 87-year-old dealmaker’s Tracinda Corp. announced on Wednesday
that he was offering up to $868 million to buy as many as 28 million
shares in financially troubled General Motors Corp.

The news sent shares in the world’s largest automaker up more than
18 percent, meaning Kerkorian single-handedly triggered a gain of
more than $110 million in the value of the 22 million GM shares he
disclosed he already owns.

A source close to Tracinda said the 22 million shares were bought by
Kerkorian over the last three or four weeks.

It seems unlikely that Kerkorian was out to make a quick buck in
announcing his tender offer, however, even if it came after GM’s
shares had slumped to their lowest level in more than a decade.

His move drove U.S. stocks broadly higher. And financial analysts
said Kerkorian, who has positioned himself to raise his stake in GM
to nearly 9 percent, appears to have more grandiose plans for the
automaker than short-term profits.

That was certainly the case when he was an “active” investor at
Chrysler and tried to gain control of GM’s crosstown rival in the
1990s.

“We think Kerkorian’s move could have potentially broad-reaching
implications,” JPMorgan analyst Himanshu Patel said in a note to
investors.

“Forcing a sale of the GMAC business could potentially unlock
significant value,” Patel said, referring to the finance arm of GM
that has served as a safety net as the automaker struggles to turn
its automotive operations back to profit.

Kerkorian’s lawyer, Terry Christensen, told Reuters in an interview
late on Wednesday that he has no intention of trying to win control
over GM by building up an equity stake in the company.

“This is just a passive investment,” said Christensen, who has known
Kerkorian for about 30 years. He stressed, though, that Kerkorian has
“a tremendous instinct for assets” and was a big believer in building
shareholder value.

“One of the things that he’s always done through the years, whether
he was an investor in a company or controlled the company, he always
had in mind the shareholders sharing the same benefits that he had,”
Christensen said.

Kerkorian, the California-born son of Armenian immigrants, dropped
out of school at a young age and is notoriously reclusive. A onetime
prizefighter with the nickname “Rifle Right,” he was Chrysler’s
biggest shareholder when he and former auto boss Lee Iaccoca tried
to take it over in 1996.

A perennial fixture on Forbes’ list of richest Americans, Kerkorian
has an estimated net worth of $8.9 billion.

MAN WITH A PLAN

“I think he’s a smart son-of-a-bitch,” said a senior official at
DaimlerChrysler’s Chrysler division, when asked about Kerkorian’s
possible plans for the world’s largest automaker.

“He doesn’t do things frivolously. He has a plan.”

It was DaimlerChrysler that used the term “frivolous” to dismiss
the $1 billion lawsuit Kerkorian filed over the 1998 linkup between
Germany’s Daimler-Benz and Chrysler.

But Kerkorian, the biggest casino boss in Las Vegas history,
is known for keeping abreast of every investment he makes and
thinking through all his moves very carefully. He is not someone
to be underestimated, even in his appeal of the court ruling that
dismissed his DaimlerChrysler lawsuit.

As a developer, he has built some of the world’s largest hotels on
the Vegas strip, and as a majority owner of casino and hotel operator
MGM Mirage Inc., he has built up a sprawling real estate empire. He
presides over 11 casino resorts on the Vegas Strip alone and has made
some of the biggest deals in the history of the gaming industry.

With the recently completed sale of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. to an
investment group led by Sony Corp., Kerkorian will also go down in
the annals of business as the man who sold the venerable film studio,
not once, but three times.

AGBU MONTRÉAL LEADERSHIP HONORED BY CANADIAN PARLIAMENT

Montréal, Canada – On April 18th, 2005, on the occasion of Canada’s
National Volunteer Week, a special ceremony was held to honor exemplary
community volunteers for their outstanding contributions to Canadian
society, including three members of AGBU Montréal. Presented with
special Canadian House of Commons certificates by Member of Parliament
(MP) Eleni Bakopanos were Viken L. Attarian, Chapter Chairman;
Mr. Hagop Melkonian, Treasurer; and Sonia Boulos, Chair of AGBU
Montréal’s Golden Age Committee.

“This is a proud moment for AGBU because it demonstrates the
dedication of our volunteers to serve their fellow citizens. I
should also like to mention that most associations had either one
or, at most, two members recognized; AGBU was the only one that had
three of its members honored. This shows the high esteem that AGBU
enjoys in Canadian society. We thank the Canadian government for this
distinction, which is really a recognition that should go to all of
the hundreds of AGBU Montréal volunteers,” Attarian said proudly.

Founded in 1957, AGBU Montréal is dedicated to preserving and promoting
the Armenian heritage and culture through educational, cultural,
and humanitarian programs within the greater Montréal region. For

La honestidad requerida

La honestidad requerida
By HERMANN TERTSCH

El Pais
May 5, 2005

Ignatieff (El mal menor, Taurus).

instituciones, Parlamentos y Gobiernos extranjeros recordaran aquel

ANKARA: Erdogan to Warn Schroder about Armenian Issue

Erdogan to Warn Schroder about Armenian Issue
By Zaman

Zaman, Turkey
May 3 2005

Ankara will host Chancellor Gerhard Chroeder of Germany, one of the
locomotive countries of the European Union (EU).

Schroder will pay a two-day official visit to Turkey and he is
expected to reiterate German support for Turkey’s EU bid. Turkish
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in return will ask his German
counterpart to remove a bill regarding the so-called Armenian genocide
in German Parliament. Schroder has positively viewed Turkey’s offer
to form a joint commission to investigate the related allegations
and is anticipated to suggest opening the border between Turkey and
Armenia. Upon the Turkish warning regarding initiatives by the German
opposition regarding the Armenian allegations and the relations between
the two countries, the Christian Democrats Union (CDU) have suspended
the attempt “for now”. Erdogan will supply Shcroder with the details
of the Turkish approach to these allegations during his visit.

Hayrusgazard to sell electricity to Georgia until June

HAYRUSGAZARD TO SELL ELECTRICITY TO GEORGIA UNTIL JUNE

Armenpress

YEREVAN, MAY 3, ARMENPRESS: The Russian-Armenian joint venture
Hayrusgazard said it will continue electricity supplies to neighboring
Georgia until June. Shushan Sardarian, a spokeswoman for the company,
said talks are underway with Georgia’s United Distribution Company in
an effort to raise the price of the electricity. She said the company
has been sustaining heavy damages due to the dramatic appreciation
of the Armenian national currency dram.

Hayrusgazard now sells electricity to Georgia at US 2.5 cents per
one kilowatt/hour. Though the contract with the Georgian company
terminated on March 31, the latter asked for 900,000 kilowatt/hour
daily electricity supplies until June.

On Monday the International Energy Corporation, a Russian-owned company
stopped supplies of Armenian electricity to Georgia, citing substantial
losses incurred as a result of the dramatic appreciation of the dram.

The dram has strengthened against the dollar about 30 percent since
the beginning of last year, incurring losses to export-oriented
Armenian companies, as a strong dram makes their products less
competitive abroad.

Meantime Georgian deputy energy minister Aleko Khetaguri announced
on May 2 that the government is accepting privatization bids for the
state-owned energy distributing company and five hydro power plants.

These five hydro power plants are all in western Georgia.

The United Distribution Company (UDC), which is currently managed
by the U.S. company PA Consulting – a USAID contractor company,
distributes electricity in the regions throughout Georgia.
