Research: Ararat 3 Stars cognac, `Kilikia’ beer and Nemiroff vodka are
the most popular beverages in Armenia

Friday 1 July 2011 17:03

The most popular cognac in Armenia is “Ararat 3 Stars’, which is
preferred by 17.8% of the polled.

Mediamax reports that the results of the research on spirit consumers’
behavior in Armenia, held by M-Info Company, evidence this.

The most preferred wine brand amongst consumers in Armenia is Areni
(31,8%, irrelevant to specific producer). Most preferred beer is
Kilikia (21%), most preferred vodka is Nemiroff (8,2%)

These are the results of the consumer survey performed by M-Info,
marketing and business consulting agency, based on face to face
interviews conducted with randomly selected 500 respondents, who have
been absolutely free in their choice.

`Our primary goal has been somewhat unique for Armenian market. We did
not want to reveal the alcohol consumption volumes per type and brand,
those are known and tracked by the market participants. We wanted to
understand consumers’ preferences, their brand perception, the level
of brand recognition, price/quality perceptions. Hence results our
research may not correlate with actual sales volumes, however while
comparing our results with the sales volumes one can see misbalances
between the `passive demand’ and `active supply’ per specific product,
as well as role of the price elasticity in that’, Director of M-Info
Company Mariam Simonyan said.

Iran Speaker against peacekeeper deployment in Karabakh

Iran’s parliament Speaker Ali Larijani has opposed the possible
deployment of peacekeeping forces to the Nagornyy Karabakh conflict
zone, Fars News Agency has reported.

At his news conference held in Baku on 2 July, Larijani said the best
way to resolve the conflict was through agreement between Azerbaijan
and Armenia, as the USA “misuses” international organizations for its
own interests.

“If international organizations were independent, we would have
another way to resolve the Karabakh problem. That is why, I think that
the deployment of international forces to Karabakh may exacerbate the
crisis further,” Larijani added.

Again Death in Army

Again Death in Army

Story from Lragir.am News:

Published: 15:42:44 – 01/07/2011

Again a case of death is reported in the armed forces of Armenia.
Tigran Hambardzumyan, Masis Town, served in the military unit of Kapan
City. He would complete service in 6 months. On June 29 Tigran was
found dead.

On June 28 Tigran talked to his father on the telephone and was in a
good mood. He asked his father to recharge his mobile account but when
his parents called him back in an hour he was unreachable. In four
hours the chief of staff of the military unit telephoned them and
informed that that their son had run away from the military unit.

At 5 o’clock in the morning of the next day the parents left for
Kapan, at 11 they were received by the chief of staff. He told them
the military police was searching for their son. Some time later the
military commission of Masis telephoned the parents and informed that
Tigran’s body had been found 30 meters from the military unit of
Kapan, on the road in the forest. He was found lying with his face
down, hands on his face, with injuries on the face and neck, the face
was in severe wounds. The vein near the elbow was cut in length.

Yesterday Tigran’s body was taken to Yerevan but it was not kept in a
refrigerator and the body continued to decay.

The parents were told that their son had committed a suicide, and they
allegedly found a razor stained with blood, and the wolves allegedly
damaged his face. The parents doubt this story because their son
always felt good and never complained. They are sure their son was
killed.

Cellist from Armenia wins first prize at prestigious Tchaikovsky

Cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan from Armenia has won a gold medal and the
first prize (EUR 20,000) at the XIV International Tchaikovsky
Competition in Moscow.

Hakhnazaryan, 22, also took the audience award for an incredible
performance on the cello. Edgar Moreau of France took the second place
and Ivan Karizna from Belarus took a bronze medal

Hakhnazaryan has been at the centre of a scandal when the Russian
conductor Mark Gorenstein, insulted his ethnic origin during a
rehearsal for his concerto performance, by calling him an aul. (which
means a Caucasian village).

Gorenstein’s expression shocked the journalists who were present at
the rehearsal and made the incident public by issuing a statement.

`We believe that words, which insult human dignity, ruin the creative
atmosphere on which we make great efforts. The Tchaikovsky Competition
is to support young talents and both participants and organizers of
the competition should show respect towards talented youth,’ the
statement reads.

Gorenstein later offered an apology that was accepted by Hakhnazaryan.

Consumer Rights Protection NGO expert Victor Abrahamyan considers it
very alarming that the slaughter of animals in Armenia customarily
takes place in `yard conditions’ and not at special slaughter-houses
as it was the case during Soviet times.

`Yard slaughter is fraught with the danger of spreading various
infections,’ Abrahamyan stressed at a press conference on Friday,
adding that animal slaughter is mainly carried out without
professional supervision, in unsanitary conditions.

The expert says that slaughterhouses need to be established so that
the slaughter of animals be not only safe, but also profitable, since,
as he put it, `in slaughterhouses only animals’ mooing and bellowing
is lost.’

`During slaughter in yard conditions the slaughtered animal’s
intestines are thrown to dogs, while useful things can be made of it,
such as insulin from animal pancreas, and in [house conditions] it is
not used,’ said Abrahamyan.

The Consumers Rights Protection NGO, aiming to improve the meat and
meat products safety situation in Armenia, has launched a multimedia
campaign as part of the `Support for the Development of
Slaughterhouses in Armenia’ program, which is being implemented with
the assistance of the Ministry of Agriculture and the UN Food and
Agriculture Organization and with the funding of the Greek government.

Abrahamyan urged businesspeople to build slaughterhouses, saying that
it will cost 30,000-50,000 to build a slaughterhouse, while under the
program a businessman will get equipment for the facility free of
charge.

Besides the problem of the absence of slaughterhouses, specialists
single out the issue of unhygienic transportation and sale of meat and
meat products and a faulty application of the legislation in this
regard. Selling meat without refrigeration for the first time is
penalized with a fine of up to 50,000 drams (about $135), while a
repeat offense entails a fine of up to 300,000 drams (more than $800).

Armenia invited Turkey, Azerbaijan to participate in Bologna Process

Armenia invited Turkey, Azerbaijan to participate in Bologna Process events

July 1, 2011 – 14:07 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – On July 1, 2011 Armenia and Poland will assume
co-chairmanship in Bologna Process to last till December 31, 2011,
Armenian Minister of Education and Science stated.

As Armen Ashotyan told a news conference in Yerevan, a number of
events were planned in this connection, including Bologna 2020
international student school aiming to consolidate students from
Bologna Process member states.

Ashotyan further noted that his Azerbaijani and Turkish counterparts
were invited to participate in two events to be hosted by Armenia.
However, the countries denied receiving any invitation, which, as
Armenian Foreign Ministry confirmed they did receive.

The purpose of the Bologna Process (or Bologna Accords) is the
creation of the European Higher Education Area by making academic
degree standards and quality assurance standards more comparable and
compatible throughout Europe, in particular under the Lisbon
Recognition Convention. It is named after the place it was proposed,
the University of Bologna, with the signing in 1999 of the Bologna
declaration by Education Ministers from 29 European countries.

Armenia became a signatory and thus a member of the European Higher
Education Area in 2005.

Celebrity Plastic Surgery – Kim Kardshian Turned Away by Doctor

By Cathy Beers
Jul 1, 2011

Celebrity Plastic Surgery – Though Kim Kardashian has always denied
rumors of a nip tuck on her butt or her breasts (she recently has a
rear end X-ray to prove her natural behind) she has been forced to
perfect a pose that stops her nose looking “too Armenian” the reality
TV star said earlier.

Kim – who is of Armenian descent on her father’s side – was turned
down for cosmetic surgery on her nose, but has learned to alter her
expressions to minimise the facial feature.

She said: “I went to a plastic surgeon to see if I could get my
Armenian nose corrected and he said he wouldn’t do it as I didn’t need
it.

“But in some photographs it looks a little too Armenian, so you’ll
notice that I always keep my face tilted down to stop the shadows.”

While the surgeon may have refused to alter Kim’s nose, she found it
odd that he would have operated on her sister, Kourtney – who didn’t
even want the procedure.

She added: “Funnily enough, the plastic surgeon said he’d do my sister
Kourtney’s nose, even though she was only there to hold my hand. It
was very funny!”
