Azerbaijani Press: What to expect after April 11?

What to expect after April 11?

by Analytical Service Turan

On April 9, the renovation of the republican leadership will be completed in Armenia. A 65-year-old President of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Sargsyan, elected March 2, 2018, will take office April 9. At the same time, the incumbent head of the republic Serzh Sargsyan will leave the presidency. It is very likely in Armenia that the former president Sargsyan will be elected prime minister in the parliament on April 17, according to the new Armenian constitution, he will actually be the head of state. This will complete the process of Armenia's transition to a parliamentary form of government.

On April 11, presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan. Elections, according to the constitution, were planned for October this year, but in February 2018 President I.Aliyev unexpectedly for the population and politicians appointed early elections on April 11. At that time, analysts speculated about the reason for the outwardly unjustified decision to postpone the transfer. One of the versions, not the most popular one, was the desire of the Azerbaijani president to complete the administrative procedures with his almost re-election, at the same time with the end of similar events in Armenia, so that both sides of the Karabakh conflict returned to the peace talks.

It is possible that the proposal to synchronize its electoral campaign with the Armenian came to Aliyev from outside, from the superpower supervising the talks. And if to look for the force more close to the Karabakh process, it inevitably is Russia.

The Armenian media write about the new pressure on this country from Russia, which allegedly intends to force Yerevan to abandon Karabakh. Journalists and analysts provide various "evidence". The last is the unexpected entry of Russian military police into the territory of the republic, not only in Gumri, which in fact became a city for the Russian military base, but also in Yerevan. In Azerbaijan, they do not write about Russian pressure, as we do not have such obvious events in Armenia. So, there is complete mutual understanding between Baku and Moscow regarding the plan of forthcoming actions, but it's necessary to pressure Armenia. The conclusion is too superficial, very much in the style of the Armenian media, but excuse me, there is no other.

Let's not be unfounded: "On the one hand, they are trying to please Armenia, on the other hand they are continuing to sell weapons to Azerbaijan while deploying the military police in Armenia." We are in an extremely dangerous situation and the threat does not come from where it was expected. Then and now the threat comes from Russia," warns the publicist, political scientist, Anush Sedrakyan.

"On March 15, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, said that there is no representation of the Artsakh Republic in Moscow, that is, Russia once again "washed its hands" of Nagorno Karabakh once a month," concludes Acnis.am. By the way, the CSTO Secretary General "washed his hands off the Karabakh" by much more transparently saying that the CSTO will not be at war for Karabakh.

It should also be added that in a very small part of the Armenian public environment, there is readiness for compromises that suit Azerbaijan, or sufficient for an adequate proposal to Azerbaijan. Baku reads the Russian-speaking and even Armenian-language socio-political press and finds in publications the recognition of the impasse, the futility of the reality around Karabakh. Confessions, both in the form of separate statements, and expressed in the form of publications, explain to the local reader the need for changes in the Armenian official line in the Karabakh issue.

"The continuation of the conflict has a very big impact on migration, which is a very painful issue for us …", MP Naira Zohrabyan.

Hayk Gazaryan, a journalist from Nagorno-Karabakh, "According to official figures, they do not emigrate from Artsakh" refers to the departure of Armenians from the occupied territories, despite assurances from the local authorities that there is no such problem.http://theanalyticon.com /?p=3966&lang=en

The opinion of the Armenians is being "crushed" by new international realities: the long-term efforts of the separatists to create "Kurdistan" in the territory of the three Middle Eastern states have collapsed, Catalonia has been torn from Spain, and Scotland from Great Britain.

The leadership of Azerbaijan does not apply to the possible intensification of negotiations with Armenia after the end of the election campaigns in the two warring countries. Official Baku continues to disseminate promises about the restoration of Azerbaijani legality in Karabakh, and not excluding the use of military force. Against the backdrop of numerous threats from Baku, the statement of the presidential aide on public and political issues Ali Hasanov, who promised in December 2017 to the Armenians wide autonomy to Nagorno-Karabakh and the securing of the civil rights of the local Armenian population, looks dissonant. He talked about this in December 2017, and a month later, in early February, Aliyev postponed the presidential elections on April 11.

The Azerbaijani society does not believe the success of the Karabakh talks after the completion of the two election campaigns. "… imagine for a moment that Armenia and Azerbaijan somehow came to agreed. And why after this Armenia and Azerbaijan will need Russia and its armament? No, it is Russia that is doing and will do everything possible and impossible that this conflict will not be resolved as long as possible," commented on Ramiz Aslanov the new negotiations.

Book: Ahmet’s new book out in Italy

Ahmet's new book out in Italy
Sentenced to life in prison, novelist defends himself

(ANSAmed) – ROME, APRIL 3 – Turkish writer and journalist Ahmet Altan, whose new book 'Tre manifesti per la liberta' (three posters for freedom) published in Italy by E/O is coming out on April 11, says he will ''judge those who, in cold blood, have killed the justice system allowing the arrest of thousands of innocent citizens''. ''I don't have the power to punish people nor to imprison them and, in any event, I would never like to have such a power. But I have the power to unveil the homicide, to identify the killer, to show the bloodied weapons used for this insidious murder and to talk about the crimes that have been committed''.

Altan was sentenced to life in prison last February on charges that he backed the failed coup on July 15, 2016.

The three corrosive texts written by the author – known for his battles in defense of the Kurdish minority, the cause of Armenians victims of genocide and freedom of _expression_ – has long been detained. In his three defensive memories, Altan hails the ideas of justice, honesty and legality and ridicules not only the charges against him but the violent and corrupt system that is taking his country towards dictatorship, overturning the situation in which he is a defendant.

Sales from the book, after production and distribution costs are paid, will entirely go to the author so that he can finance his defense team and fight for his freedom. He has received the support of 51 Nobel laureates who in a letter sent to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan (with which the book opens) are asking for Altan's release and to re-establish the rule of law in Turkey.

Asbarez: Prelate’s Easter Message

Western Prelate Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian

May The Message Of The Resurrection Lead Us To Renewed Life

The glory of Easter is upon us once again, the most sacred, heartening, and joyful time of the year when our hearts and souls are enlivened by the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, His conquering of sin and of death, the inauguration of a new creation and the dawn of a new life. Easter, however, is not and must not be a fleeting celebration. The Resurrection of Christ is the crux of Christianity, and its powerful, life-saving, and life-giving message is for all the days of the year and indeed for all of eternity. To say that Jesus changed the world is not hyperbole; Jesus saved, renewed, reformed, and transformed lives, individually and collectively, and He continues to do so until the end of the age. Christ truly “makes all things new” (Revelation 21:5).

The Holy Bible is filled with stories of rebirth, of lives being reformed and transformed by the grace and mercy of our Lord. In the physical sense, Jesus healed and made whole individuals suffering from various illnesses; he restored sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, speech to the mute, cured paralytics and lepers, cast out demons, and more. Even more important than the physical is the minds, hearts, and souls He renewed. Jesus took simple and ordinary men like the apostles and the seventy-two disciples and endowed them with His power and authority, transforming them into bold and fearless witnesses, preachers, and spiritual leaders. There are many similar examples throughout the Bible, but perhaps the greatest transformation was that of Saul, once a persecutor of Christians, who upon seeing the Risen Christ experienced a total rebirth and became one of the most influential figures in the history of Christianity as St. Paul. In our own history we have the example of the pagan king Dertad who became the first Christian king of Armenia, proclaimed Christianity as the state religion, and died spreading the new faith.

Through His passion, death, and glorious Resurrection, our Lord Jesus Christ offered this same hope of a new and transformed life to all of mankind, “God is risen and all the universe has been adorned in a new garment” (Armenian Hymn). God’s love and Word have the power to transform lives, not just of those who lived in the time of Jesus, but our lives today, yours and mine. He, and only He, can change our innermost being, and through Him alone can we become who God has called us to be and enter into the fullness of a new and abundant life.

Dear faithful,
Easter is the most fitting time to commit ourselves to this new and abundant life in Christ, to reinforce our faith and cast off any and all negativity and darkness that threatens to sway us, our church, and our nation from the path that God has planned for us, for “…just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life” (Romans 6:4). God became man so that we could be more like Him, to have in Him new life, for “By His voluntary death He put death to death and by His incorrupt resurrection renewed the world” (Armenian Hymn). Let us accept this priceless gift and invite our Lord into our innermost beings with open arms and open hearts, allowing His grace, love, peace, and joy to renew, restore, and transform us into new creatures in His image.

With these thoughts and hopes, I extend my heartfelt well wishes to our extended Prelacy family, to the members of our clergy, councils, parishes, educational institutions, community organizations, and faithful, praying for the spirit of the Resurrection to inundate our souls with His love, peace, joy, and goodness, and guide us throughout the year to becoming who God intends for us to be. In this centennial year of the first Republic of Armenia in particular, let us renew our allegiance to our Lord, to our church, and to our nation, and serve with faith, brotherly love, and goodwill for His glory first and foremost, and for the splendor of our collective national life, in the spirit of our forefathers who gave their all for the resurrection of our nation in the aftermath of the Genocide.

Renewed in spirit, in faith, hope, and in love, let us put off our old selves and put on the new man, and in unison sing praises of joy and thanksgiving, for

CHRIST HAS RISEN FROM THE DEAD
BLESSED IS THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST
A HAPPY EASTER FOR US ALL

Prayerfully,
Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian
Prelate, Western United States
