Azerbaijani military again opens fire at farmers in Nagorno Karabakh

YEREVAN, MARCH 24, ARMENPRESS. Azeri forces have again opened fire on Armenian farmers in Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh).

The Nagorno Karabakh Ministry of Internal Affairs said “a group of citizens carrying out pruning work in the vineyards of Machkalashen community of the Martuni region” were targeted by Azerbaijani fire on March 23 and March 24.

In a statement issued Friday, the Ministry of Internal Affairs also denied the Azerbaijani accusations on having used the Stepanakert-Ghaibalishen-Lisagor road to transport military supplies.

“The Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan continues to spread disinformation that the Armenian side is allegedly using the Stepanakert-Ghaibalishen-Lisagor road to transport military supplies.

Advancing this [narrative], the Azerbaijani side is misleading the international community, preparing the ground for another provocation against the civilian population of Artsakh.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs considers it necessary to emphasize once again that the movement of civilians and the transportation of humanitarian goods are carried out along the forest and mountain road bypassing Shushi, accompanied by Russian peacekeepers.

Taking into account the geographical location of that road, the traffic is organized by large and [high-clearance] vehicles, which the Azerbaijani side misrepresents as military transport.

While Azerbaijan falsely accuses the Armenian side of transporting weapons and ammunition, yesterday, March 23 and this morning, Azerbaijani combat positions targeted and opened fire with weapons of various types and calibers at a group of citizens carrying out pruning work in the vineyards of Machkalashen community of the Martuni region.

No casualties were registered. Agricultural work has been suspended,” the statement reads.

‘The more progress we see the more fundamental problems emerge’ – PM on peace treaty talks

YEREVAN, MARCH 14, ARMENPRESS. Armenia recently received a proposal from Azerbaijan around its proposals of the draft peace treaty, PM Pashinyan said on March 14.

He said that in mid-February Armenia relayed to Azerbaijan its response regarding a peace treaty project, and a few days ago Baku responded to it as well. “What can I say about this document? Is there any progress there? I have to underscore that we do see some progress. But the more progress we see the more fundamental problems emerge. Which are these fundamental problems? We see that Azerbaijan is trying to form territorial claims against the Republic of Armenia through the possible peace treaty, which is naturally a red line for us. We also see that Azerbaijan is pursuing a line for us not to have a system of guarantees of implementation of the treaty, which is also a red line for us. Because today we have a signed, published document which is not being implemented. I am referring to the 9 November 2020 trilateral statement. By that statement the Lachin Corridor must not be closed in any way, but it is. Therefore, this further underscores Armenia’s sensitivity in the issue that any document that could be signed must have guarantees of implementation, preferably international guarantees,” the Prime Minister said, adding that this is Armenia’s understanding around the proposals made by Azerbaijan, which can’t be groundless.

Azerbaijan president continues threatening Armenia, Armenians

Armenia –

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev continues to issue threats, present ultimatums, and make insults against Armenia and Armenians.

"Today we [Azerbaijanis] are on the land of native Karabakh, on the land of native Zangazur [(Zangezur)], and we will be here forever. The Azerbaijani people rightfully live with a sense of pride," Aliyev said, addressing the Azerbaijani people from Talish village on Saturday, on the occasion of Nowruz.

Also, Aliyev did not forget to present ultimatums and make insults against Armenians, frequently repeating expressions about the "masters" and "backers" of Armenians.

"Today, Armenia, which had declared that ‘Karabakh is Armenia and that's it,’ which was threatening us with a new war, is in search of a new master. There will be no benefit from that," he said.

Continuing the topic of the unknown "backers" of Armenians, Aliyev spoke about the countries that "support Armenia's invasive policy and have declared an information war against us," but did not specify which countries he means.

"For Armenia to live peacefully on the territory of [its] 29,000 square kilometers, there is one condition: they need to accept our conditions, officially recognize Karabakh as the territory of Azerbaijan, carry out delimitation work based on our conditions," said Aliyev.

"Realities related to occupation, war, post-Soviet realities should and will find their reflection in peace negotiations. Otherwise, there will be no peace treaty," continued the president of Azerbaijan.

"Some conferences, symposiums related to the internal affairs of Azerbaijan are being organized in some countries," Aliyev said.

"Some pro-Armenian countries recognize the ‘independence of Nagorno-Karabakh,’ which does not exist on the world map, does not exist in the territory of Azerbaijan. What does this mean. This means that during the occupation, the only goal of all those forces was to make the occupation eternal, not to resolve that conflict, but to freeze it," he added.
