YEREVAN, JULY 30, ARMENPRESS. The decision of the US House of Representatives to cut the US military aid to Azerbaijan contains a key message, Expert on Turkish studies Ruben Safrastyan told a press conference in Armenpress, stating that it calls on the US Administration to revise its position towards Azerbaijan.

“To revise the attitude towards that aggressive, dictatorial state where democratic norms are violated. It’s very important for the Senate to join this decision so that it becomes a law. It’s important that the US executive leadership accepts this as a serious message and changes its attitude towards Azerbaijan”, he said. However, the expert noted that the US administration sometimes doesn’t react to the messages coming from the Congress. The US executive leadership has its interests in the region, and these facts should be taken into account.

The US Department of State made a statement calling on to return to negotiations under the auspices of the Minsk Group Co-Chairs. There are such calls also from Europe and Russia. According to Mr. Safrastyan, the restoration of the Minsk Group format would be very important for Armenia. The status of Artsakh is not solved yet, and the Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship should return to the discussion of this issue. According to him, this is a path to fair solution of the Artsakh issue.

“Azerbaijan doesn’t accept the activity of the Minsk Group at the moment, but I hope that the international pressures on Azerbaijan would give their results. Here Armenia’s diplomacy has a lot to do. Serious works must be done with that states, the Armenian lobby there”, the expert stated.

The Armenian militaries have thwarted attempts of Azerbaijani drones to penetrate the airspace of the Gegarkunik Region, the Armenian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on July 28, local clashes occurred on the border of the Gegarkunik region of Armenia with Azerbaijan. On July 28, the parties, mediated by Russia, agreed on a ceasefire, but on July 29 they blamed each other of violating the ceasefire. Nikol Pashinyan, the Acting Armenian Prime Minister, asked Russia to create its military strongholds on the problematic border section. However, experts believe that Moscow will ignore this Yerevan's call, since Russia's foreign policy priorities are outside Southern Caucasus.

On July 29, Armenia's air defence forces suppressed attempts of Azeri drones to penetrate the Armenian airspace on the section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in the direction of Gegarkunik, the website of the Armenian MoD has reported.

Armenia Ombudsman says residents of certain villages of Gegharkunik Province don’t have drinking and irrigation water

News.am, Armenia

The Azerbaijani authorities are directly responsible for the damages caused to the borderline residents, for violating the right of servicemen protecting the peaceful population to life by killing them and for causing harm to health through the committal of acts that are prohibited by international law. This is stated in the statement issued by Human Rights Defender of Armenia Arman Tatoyan.

“Due to the real criminal acts of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, the residents of villages have been deprived of grazing fields, grasslands and arable fields.

For instance, Azerbaijani Armed Forces are physically present on the territories of 500 hectares of grazing field, 500 hectares of grassland and 20 hectares of arable land in Kut village. In Norabak village, they are present on the territory of at least 1,000 hectares of grazing field, 200 hectares of grassland and 25 hectares of arable land.

Moreover, they also aren’t able to use the lands located right in front of these territories since they are under the target of Azerbaijanis.

The residents of Jaghatsadzor, Geghamabak and Norabak villages don’t have drinking water or irrigation water. The problem is that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces are present in the territories of water basins and rivulets from which the drinking water and irrigation water are formed.

On June 5, 80 large cattle were stolen in Kut village and were never returned to their owners, and four of them were killed. We’re talking about cattle that belonged to five families.

Due to shootings, the rights of the employees of Sotk gold mine are violated on a regular basis, and damage is caused to the mining company’s entrepreneurial activities.

All this means that, in addition to security, the people face serious social issues.

The peaceful and normal lives of people have been completely undermined everywhere.

The Azerbaijanis’ gunshots are prevented due to the preventative gunshots fired by the Armed Forces of Armenia.

The Azerbaijani authorities are directly responsible for the damages caused to the borderline residents, for violating the right of servicemen protecting the peaceful population to life by killing them and for causing harm to health through the committal of acts that are prohibited by international law.

The Human Rights Defender visited along with head of Geghamasar village Hakob Avetyan, the heads of Kut and Norabak villages, as well as a representative of the regional governor’s office of Gegharkunik Province.

The results of the visit will be presented to international organizations (United Nations, Council of Europe, European Union, etc.), as well as the relevant state bodies of Armenia,” he wrote.

Armenian human rights activist on the opposition and the Constitutional Court’s decision on snap elections

News.am, Armenia

After scores with members of the opposition ‘Armenia’ bloc (who are heads of communities) are settled, members of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutyun political party will be next. This is what human rights activist Avetik Ishkhanyan wrote on his Facebook page, touching upon the decision of the Constitutional Court of Armenia on the snap parliamentary elections. Ishkhanyan wrote the following:

“Alas, the Constitutional Court left the results of the “elections” unchanged. What are we going to do? Now a little more serious…Dear members of the opposition, did you really have faith in the Constitutional Court? During all these years, didn’t you become convinced that there is no constitution, law and rights in Armenia? There is only the will of one person — the dictator.

No matter what argument you bring up, there was already political terrorism in Armenia — laying down on asphalts, making up criminal cases and arresting heads of communities with oppositional view. Were you expecting the members of the Constitutional Court to commit a heroic act in these conditions? Even if there was some doubt about the decision of the Constitutional Court, the little dictator would at least refrain from taking such steps, at least now. The whole world “congratulated” the little dictator without waiting for the Constitutional Court to announce its decision, and with that, the whole world ignored the Armenian people and you, dear members of the opposition. After scores with members of the opposition ‘Armenia’ bloc (who are heads of communities) are settled, members of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutyun political party will be next. Continue the struggle constitutionally, ladies and gentlemen, and get ready for the next “elections”.”

Armenia ready for resumption of Karabakh peaceful settlement process, Pashinyan reiterates

 12:23,

YEREVAN, JULY 15, ARMENPRESS. Caretaker Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan says Azerbaijan is trying to create an impression that Armenia opposes peace and the peace treaty.

“Whereas Armenia has already publicly welcomed the April 13 statement of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs which in particular says, I quote: “Having in mind the terms of their OSCE mandate and the aspirations of all the people of the region for a stable, peaceful, and prosperous future, the Co-Chairs stress that special attention should be paid to the achievement of a final comprehensive and sustainable settlement on the basis of the elements and principles well-known to the sides. In this respect, the Co-Chairs call on the parties to resume high-level political dialogue under the auspices of the Co-Chairs at the earliest opportunity. They reiterate their proposal to organize direct bilateral consultations under their auspices, in order for the sides to review and agree jointly upon a structured agenda, reflecting their priorities, without preconditions””, he said.

Pashinyan reminded that the principles well-known to the sides, which are put on the basis of the settlement of the Karabakh conflict, are three – peoples’ right to self-determination, non-use of force or threat of force and territorial integrity.

“This statement of the Co-Chairs is thus nothing more than a proposal of a roadmap for the establishment of peace in the region, and Armenia has welcomed this statement and positively reacted to its provisions. I want to officially state once again that Armenia is ready for the resumption of the peaceful settlement process of the Karabakh conflict with the format and content of the statement of the Co-Chairs. And I think that the Azerbaijani leadership would be better to listen to the calls of the mediators, instead of making unconstructive actions and statements, and to express a clear position over the statement of the Co-Chairs. It’s clear that we will diligently pursue the exercise of the Artsakh people’s right to self-determination”, Pashinyan said.

ISIPO inks co-op MOU with Armenia’s Investor Support Center

Tehran Times, Iran

– 16:38

TEHRAN – Iran Small Industries and Industrial Parks Organization (ISIPO) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Armenia’s Investor Support Center for cooperation in various areas, including the establishment of joint industrial parks in border areas.

The signing ceremony, held online on Tuesday, was attended by senior officials from the two sides including the ISIPO Head Ali Rasoulian and Armenian Ambassador to Iran Artashes Toumanian, IRNA reported.

The development of bilateral cooperation, offering appropriate solutions for resolving trade issues, promotion and improvement of mutual investment and creation of an operational framework to strengthen and develop stronger trade relations between the two countries were reported to be the main goals of the mentioned MOU.

Speaking at the ceremony, Rasoulian expressed hope that considering the expansion of economic and industrial cooperation between Iran and Armenia, the two countries will take serious measures for promoting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and for the establishment of joint industrial parks.

“Small and medium-sized enterprises play an important role in the production and distribution of wealth in the economy, and therefore the governments need to strengthen small industries,” Rasoulian said.

Mentioning that 92 percent of Iran’s industrial sector is comprised of small and medium-sized enterprises, the official said: “we have successful experiences at the government and private sector levels in this field and try to provide the necessary infrastructure and a competitive environment for such enterprises by applying supportive policies.”

“So far, more than 900 industrial parks and zones have been put into operation in Iran and nearly one million people are working in 48,000 industrial units active in these parks,” he added.

Rasoulian further expressed hope that the two sides would improve the level of cooperation with the aim of implementing previously reached agreements and facilitating cooperation between the private sectors of the two countries which would lead to the creation of joint industrial parks.

Sports: Connah’s Quay (Wales) missing seven players in Armenia due to quarantine rules

Connah’s Quay Nomads are set to face Alashkert in the second leg of their Champions League First Qualifying round tie with seven players missing from last week’s 2-2 draw.

The 2020/21 Cymru Premier champions headed out to Armenia on Tuesday morning and have been training at their opponent’s stadium ahead of Wednesday’s crucial tie where Nomads manager Andy Morrison has been able to analyse his surroundings.

With the Nomads looking to claim another European scalp with an away victory in Armenia, his task has become that much more difficult with it being revealed that he will be missing seven players from last week’s matchday squad.

“It’s tough, that’s football,” said the former Manchester City defender.

“These things come along to test you and we are in unprecedented times, COVID has caused so many problems in so many areas.

“With the isolation period once home with it being an amber (listed) country, we’ve got lads who can’t take the best part of two weeks off work.

“So they’ve not been able to come, we’ve had a couple of injuries from last week and a couple of the squad players are still suffering from COVID.

“We’ve had to call in a couple of the youth team, a couple of seventeen-year-olds have come in. We can make five subs but we have three outfield players and two of them are seventeen-year-olds. “

Morrison said: “Since we set off this morning it’s been great. The hotel is great, the opposition has been very hospitable and we are really pleased.

“Great stadium and obviously a fantastic pitch, so everything to look forward to.”

Despite the difficulties Morrison has had to face, the situation will be all too familiar to their last European campaign when they faced Dinamo Tbilisi where the Nomads boss was faced with injury woes and COVID-19 cases within the camp which left him with 14 available players to select from on matchday.

“That’s what we are up against, we’ve had the problems before, Tbilisi last year, and we found a way to be competitive.

“What’s really important is that the eleven that start and the boys that are involved in the squad give everything they’ve got and I’ll accept whatever comes along.”

It has yet to been revealed who the seven players are, however, Morrison will now be left with little luxury to chose from on the bench with Aron Williams and two youth team players available should the Nomads boss be looking to change things during the match.
