YEREVAN, APRIL 10, ARMENPRESS. Two people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Artsakh, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 5, the local healthcare authorities announced on April 10.

One of the patients is a family member of a villager who had tested positive earlier. The other patient has had contact with another confirmed case.

Other suspected cases in the country tested negative.

YEREVAN, APRIL 6, ARMENPRESS. Preventive measures are implemented at the Police of Armenia, ARMENPRESS reports Deputy police Chief Hayk Mhryan said at a press conference.

''At the moment we have 6 policemen infected with coronavirus, 11 are isolated'', he said.

As of April 6, 11:00, the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Armenia is 833. 8 people have died. The total number of recoveries is 62.

On March 16 Armenia declared a 30-day state of emergency to battle the spread of COVID-19. The state of emergency is effective until April 14, 17:00.

Azerbaijani press: Montenegro MFA comments on so-called elections in occupied Azerbaijani lands

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro has commented on the "presidential and parliamentary elections" on March 31 in Azerbaijan's Nagorno-Karabakh region occupied by Armenia.

"The so-called "elections" in Nagorno-Karabakh don’t serve that goal, nor can prejudice the determination of the future status of Nagorno-Karabakh, or the outcome of the ongoing negotiation process, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro said in a statement," the ministry said in a statement. 

The statement reiterated Montenegro’s firm support to the OSCE Minsk Group and its Co-Chairs efforts to bring about progress beyond the status quo and substantive negotiations towards comprehensive and sustainable peace.

President of Artsakh offers condolences over death of French politician Patrick Devedjian

The letter runs as follows:

“We have learnt with deep sorrow in Artsakh about the death of prominent French political figure of Armenian origin, great patriot Patrick Devedjian.

He has made an invaluable contribution to the recognition of the Armenian Genocide and the defense of the Armenian Cause, contributing in every possible way to the preservation of the Armenian national identity in the Diaspora, the development of ties with Artsakh and the resolution of national issues.

Patrick Devedjian's death is a huge loss for all of us.

On behalf of the Artsakh people, authorities and myself personally I extend my deepest condolences and support to all the relatives and friends of the deceased, and wish them endurance and tenacity”.

Armenia and Qatar discuss possible cooperation in the fight against coronavirus

According to the RA President's press service, the interlocutors  exchanged information on the situation with the spread of a new type  of coronavirus in their countries, as well as on steps taken to  prevent the spread of the virus.

In terms of improving the effectiveness of the fight against the  spread of the epidemic, the parties indicated the importance of  joining efforts, as well as interaction with international partners.  The possibilities of practical partnership in terms of helping each  other were also discussed.  The interlocutors also exchanged views on  the agenda of bilateral cooperation, as well as on the prospects for  their development and strengthening.

Armenian President phones Moderna’s Noubar Afeyan over coronavirus vaccine

President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian had a phone conversation with Armenian-American entrepreneur, philanthropist and venture capitalist Noubar Afeyan, the co-founder and chairman of the US bio-tech company Moderna Therapeutics, which has started clinical trials of a novel coronavirus vaccine in Seattle, Washington.

Afeyan, the co-founder of the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative, presented to the Armenian president the trial process and the creation of the vaccine, Sarkissian’s office said in a readout.

The president and Afeyan also talked about the situation in the world and in Armenia which has been caused by the novel coronavirus outbreak, the preventive actions and countermeasures.

“President Sarkissian, speaking about the preventive and overcoming steps in Armenia against the coronavirus spread, also attached importance to combining efforts and cooperation with international partners,” said the readout.

Armenia is ranked 116th in UN 2020 World Happiness Report

Armenia was ranked 116th in the 2020 World Happiness Report by the UN.

This report is a research of the state of global happiness that assesses how happy the citizens of 156 countries are.

The 2020 report assessed the social, urban, and environmental impacts on happiness.

The report was released Friday, March 20, the International Day of Happiness.

Countries are rated in accordance with their citizens’ income, freedom, confidence, life expectancy, and social security.

Accordingly, the happiest country, as last year, was Finland.

But people in Afghanistan, South Sudan, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Botswana, Yemen, Malawi, and India are least happy.

Armenia's neighbors Georgia are ranked 117th, Iran 118th, Azerbaijan 89th, and Turkey 93rd.

Armenia Airline suspends most of its flights until April 16 due to coronavirus

YEREVAN, MARCH 12, ARMENPRESS. Armenia Airline made a decision to suspend most of its flights until April 16 due to the spread of the novel coronavirus, the company’s deputy CEO Gevorg Khachatryan said on Facebook.

“Armenia Airline suspends majority of its flights until April 16 due to the wide spread of the coronavirus which led to the mass return of the tickets. As of now more than 1500 tickets have been returned, all passengers have been refunded or a day change has been made free of charge. The security of the flight crew and passengers is a priority for the Armenia Airline, despite the huge financial losses”, he said.

Gevorg Khachatryan informed that all flights en route Yerevan-Lyon-Yerevan are cancelled until April 16, and Yerevan-Tel Aviv-Yerevan flights until April 9.

Armenia confirmed three new coronavirus cases on March 11. As of now the total number of the confirmed Covid-19 cases in the country is 4. The first case was reported on March 1.
