Armenian parent scorns teacher evoking Armenian genocide to defend LGBTQ content: ‘Complete gaslighting’

June 12 2023

An Armenian parent in California, who was embroiled in the protest as a Glendale Unified School District board meeting occurred last week, called out a teacher for evoking the Armenian genocide in defense of LGBTQ and minorities in the country.

"It's a completely ridiculous statement. To even conflate the two issues is insane," "Joseph," who does not want to disclose his full name, told Fox News Digital in reaction to the teacher’s statements.

While tensions were high during a protest that eventually devolved into a brawl, the June 6 school board meeting became heated among board officials and community members.

The Glendale Unified School Board listened as members of the public debated LGBTQ+ issues while the board considered a resolution to designate June as LGBTQ+ Pride month.

Some parents spoke up and asked they be given a say over what their children are exposed to in school. They asked for permission to opt their children out of aspects of the LGBTQ+ curriculum. Others defended the district's policies, saying that no one wants to "turn straight kids gay" and pointing out that LGBTQ+ youth are at higher risk for suicide and Pride is about love and acceptance.

A video of a woman, who identified herself as a teacher in the area, spoke in defense of the LGBTQ+ community and criticized the "heteronormative, Judeo-Christian, patriarchal, imperialist, capitalist system."

"I'm a teacher in the district, and I also teach in LAUSD. I have two students in the district," the teacher said. "I deal with a lot of the trauma of LGBT youth related to the heteronormative, Judeo-Christian, patriarchal, imperialist, capitalist system that oppresses them."

She continued, "Why critical race theory? I'm not just here in support of our LGBTQ youth. It's all connected. I'm in support of critical race theory and diversity, inclusion and equity training."

Many of the parents who were protesting the meetings were Armenian. The teacher attempted to compare the Armenian genocide to the risk of suicide by LGBTQ+ youth and said kids know if they are trans at 3 years old.

"Armenians talk about the genocide, but they received SSI, but they don’t want to talk about the indigenous genocide of 1850 and the lack of reparations for Black and Indigenous people in this country," she said. "How dare you as marginalized people come here, and you don't want to talk about the oppressed trans youth … your kids are even learning what they need to learn in this that 1 in 2 will commit suicide and that 95% of kids will know they're trans when they are 3, 4, or 5 years old."

Joseph took offense to the teacher's comparison.

"A genocide of 1.5 million at least Armenians by the Turkish Ottoman Turks … it's complete gaslighting on the other side," he said. "All I have got to say is kids are not allowed to drink before 21. They're not allowed to have tattoos before 18. They're not allowed to buy guns before 18. And somehow, some way, they have enough common sense to be able to choose what gender they are like."

Joseph was part of the several hundred protesters and a group of Armenians who gathered outside the Glendale Unified School District headquarters in Los Angeles. There were counter-protesters holding Pride flags to show support for gender and sexual identity curriculum in schools.

Tensions hit a breaking point when physical fights broke out between the two sides. It is unclear how the fights started.

School officials said they were deeply saddened by the unrest and that those involved were not affiliated with the Glendale Unified community.

Joseph, who sends his kids to private shool, said the community is going to stand up and aim to "remove this disgusting topic" from schools.

"The bottom line is the Armenian community and all other communities with parents that actually care for their kids … they're going to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Armenian community. And what we're going to do is completely remove this disgusting topic from our schools," he said. "This has no business in our schools if you put any type of sexualization, regardless if you're LGBTQ or straight or gay or whatever it may be, that shouldn't even be discussed at the level that they want to push this, which is 5-year-old, 6-year-old, 7-year-olds."

"It's like it's insanity," Joseph added.

Another parent who was also part of the protest spoke with Fox News Digital and blasted the teacher's comments.

"I've been trying to wake the community up to the gender ideology and the trans policies for several months, and we finally are getting a lot of traction," said "Henry," a father of a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old.

Henry claimed to be the leader in the parental pushback against school administrators.

"None of this would happen without the Armenian parents and community members," Henry said.

Furthermore, Henry told Fox News Digital that though he is not Armenian, he has worked with a "massive number" of Armenian community members – hundreds of those who are involved.

"She is leveraging history to make her very opinionated point, a biased point on gender ideology. She is using the Armenian genocide to justify radicalizing students with their gender identity and destabilizing these students' identities."

Henry said that as a taxpayer in the community he does not feel comfortable sending his kids to public schools within the district.

Azerbaijani Press: Cox on blood. On the Baroness’s message to the Armenians of Karabakh

Azerbaijan – June 8 2023

The Baroness herself does not promise anything to Karabakh Armenians anymore, not to put in a good word for them in the British Parliament, nor any other help. This proves that she cannot and could not exert any effective influence on anyone.

“It is my hope and prayer that the long-suffering Armenian nation will continue to strive for the opportunity to live in peace and dignity in your own land. This is the blessing that my family and I, along with all Britons, enjoy. For that great privilege I am deeply indebted to those in my nation who, over eighty years ago, chose to endure a great sacrifice, rather than accepting a false promise of peace.”

This is an excerpt from a letter to the Armenians of Karabakh calling for a sacred sacrifice with a reference to Britain’s choice in the face of Nazi aggression. Its author is the notorious Baroness Caroline Cox, who lives thousands of miles away from Karabakh in her house with an English lawn. Disclaimer: We do not associate either the author’s rhetoric or her position with the policies of the United Kingdom, which has not been known to pander to the aggressive Armenian project.

In her message Cox states that the international community has forgotten about them (Armenians of Karabakh—Ed.) and is forcing Armenia to sign peace, although then Baku will organize their “genocide”. The good old Cox scares the Karabakh Armenians and encourages them to fight. A good part of her letter is devoted to the chilling memories of the atrocities allegedly committed against them by Azerbaijanis. Such pronouncements are intended to arouse the spirit of vengeance in the minds of the ethnic Armenian population of the Karabakh region and raise them to fight.

But whatever hints the Baroness used, knowing her love of jingling coins, one could well take this message as a desperate plea to secure a comfortable life for her in her old age. This is, of course, understandable for an elderly woman. Life in London has always been expensive, even more so now, with the energy crisis and the ensuing price hikes. The “miatsum” project has collapsed, the world centers of power have accepted the new reality and seem to have become immune to all kinds of pro-Armenian lobbying initiatives. In the past, the Armenians and their “miatsum” were a godsend to her. While Baroness was munching khorovats, photographing Albanian churches and writing reports on all this, not only was Azerbaijan developing its economy and strengthening its army, it was also building strong relations with the world centers of power. The ones that are now pressuring Armenia to sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan as soon as possible.

The Baroness acknowledges this, by the way. However, interestingly enough, the letter is addressed not to the world powers and not to Armenians in general, but exclusively to “the people of Artsakh”. In other words, Cox went from lobbying efforts to open blackmail, but without any sanctions. Cox’s message is approximately as follows: I slaved for you for thirty-five years, I gave you the best years of my life, I received money, I got used to delicious food and warm bed, and now, in my old age, you make me turn the knob of my heater? And do you have any idea how much it costs to mow an English lawn? This is not your wild Karabakh grass you put in your flatbreads. Are you suggesting I should live on the wages of a peeress? No, this will not do. You must pay. With blood!

The Baroness herself does not promise anything to Karabakh Armenians anymore, not to put in a good word for them in the British Parliament, nor any other help. This proves that she cannot and could not exert any effective influence on anyone. For years all her fuss with trips (and she visited Karabakh illegally 88 times), sympathetic words and promises simulated help, which was greatly promoted by the world elites pandering to the Armenian aggression. Now that support is gone and it has become impossible to simulate the process. The question, however, is whether Cox is relying on other outside forces. She does not seem to be. Especially since the Baroness’s message, as already noted, is addressed only to the Armenians of Karabakh. She removed even Armenia itself from her audience, apparently convinced of the fatal reluctance of the Armenians of Yerevan to live in enmity with their neighbors. The letter even contains some details of “atrocities.” That is an incitement: you must not forget the “cruelty of the Turks”. If you have forgotten, I will remind you. That is the essence of the message. Something akin to metered injections of a drug. One gets the impression that the Baroness is trying to excite the already pretty bruised center of pleasure in the brains of the Armenians of Karabakh. Yes, Azerbaijani Dr. Iron Fist administered a harsh but effective treatment by removing most of that organ from the patient’s brain. The patient has been in a state of apathy ever since. And then Cox comes to the rescue, slipping them an intoxicating picture of long suffering in the hope of a relapse, forgetting that not only was the surgery effective, but the patient is under the watchful eye of the aforementioned Azerbaijani professional, who seems ready to perform a second operation, or rather, a special operation to destroy the remnants of the Armenian gangs in Karabakh.

Thus, we can say for certain that Baroness Cox’s letter is nothing more than a gesture of despair, a kind of epitaph for “miatsum”, to be inscribed on its tombstone. If we were Armenians, we would read the letter carefully to see in it all the tragedy of the Armenian people. It is not in the description of imaginary atrocities of Turks, but in the way you are manipulated through images of mythical monsters, forced to play the role of firewood, essentially, being prepared to become outcasts in the Caucasus. Take in the Baroness’s lines: you are being told what you want to hear, you are being drugged. Note that it is not you who are trying to convince a foreigner of the atrocities of Turks, but on the contrary, the foreigner is convincing you. Isn’t this a blatant example of the external indoctrination of your mind that has been going on the decades? Now that peace is so close, the foreign bird is once again trying to feed the vile seeds of Turkophobia to the still unfledged Armenian generation with its crooked black beak.

But the good news is that Cox has alerted the world in a way that even the West is pressuring Armenia to make peace with Karabakh being recognized as part of Azerbaijan. She does mention this: “I am deeply disturbed by reports that the Republic of Armenia is being pressured by international powers to contemplate sacrificing your homeland of Karabakh to the Republic of Azerbaijan in return for a so-called peace treaty. If reports are to be believed, those involved in the negotiation process say that the treaty will secure the borders of the Republic of Armenia and allow trade to open up with the Turkish world.”

In other words, it is great that the international community has realized a simple truth better than the Armenians themselves: as long as Armenia does not recognize the borders of Azerbaijan, its own borders are a very arbitrary concept. The leaders in Washington, Moscow, Brussels, Berlin and Paris are in fact just as concerned about the fate of the Armenian people as the Baroness. This is why they strongly recommend Yerevan to forget about the “miatsum” and to think about the fate of its own 29,800 square kilometers, cut out of the historical Azerbaijani lands. Which, by the way, is also a well-known fact.

Bomb explodes in Afghanistan during memorial ceremony for Taliban official

 13:12, 8 June 2023

YEREVAN, JUNE 8, ARMENPRESS. A bomb exploded Thursday in Afghanistan’s northeastern Badakhshan province during a memorial ceremony for a deputy governor who was killed in another blast two days earlier, Associated Press reported citing a Taliban official.

The latest explosion occurred near Nabawi mosque during a funeral for Mawlavi Nisar Ahmad Ahmadi, the deputy governor of Badakhshan. He was killed by a car bomb on Tuesday alongside of his driver in Faizabad, the capital of Badakhshan.

Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan says maintains close contact with ex-FM Zohrab Mnatsakanyan

 17:01, 5 June 2023

YEREVAN, JUNE 5, ARMENPRESS. Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has said that he maintains close contact with ex-foreign minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan.

Member of Parliament Garnik Danielyan from the Hayastan faction asked Mirzoyan whether or not he sought advice from his predecessors over the negotiations process with Azerbaijan.

“The state [belongs] to us all. And I think that ministers taking office ought to study their predecessor’s experience in case of opportunity. No one is perfect, you might get some advice or nuances that could be to the benefit of the country,” the lawmaker told the foreign minister during parliamentary joint committee debates of the 2022 budget report.

“From former foreign ministers I maintain rather close contact, for example, with Zohrab Mnatsakanyan. The ministers who served before him are regularly publishing articles so I get to know their approaches from the press anyway. Unfortunately, I find their positions to be far from being an appropriate perception or offers constituting appropriate solutions, therefore there isn’t much to talk about. In case of someone else I can recall that he abandoned the position entrusted to him at the most difficult time full of challenges for our country. I don’t understand what’s there to discuss,” Mirzoyan said, adding that he also discusses matters concerning Armenian interests with experts.

Azerbaijan again falsely accuses Armenia of border shooting

 10:12, 30 May 2023

YEREVAN, MAY 30, ARMENPRESS. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense has again released disinformation, the Armenian Ministry of Defense warned Tuesday morning.

In a statement, the Azerbaijani military falsely accused the Armenian forces of firing at Azerbaijani positions overnight May 29-30.

“The Ministry of Defence of Azerbaijan has spread disinformation as if the units of the [Republic of Armenia] Armed Forces opened fire against the Azerbaijani combat positions located in the northeastern and eastern parts of the border zone overnight May 29 and 30,” the Armenian Ministry of Defense said in a statement on social media.

Tigranashen of strategic importance for Armenia, expert insists

Panorama
Armenia – June 2 2023

Iran specialist Vardan Voskanyan has reacted to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s latest remarks on Tigranashen, a village in Armenia’s Ararat Province which may be handed over to Azerbaijan as part of a potential peace deal between the two countries.

He claims the village is of strategic importance for Armenia.

"I must have travelled along the Vedi-Urtsadzor-Lanjanist-Lusashog-Lanjar-Zangakatun road, which is an alternative to the main Yeraskh-Tigranashen-Zangakatun highway, a hundred times,” he wrote on Facebook on Friday, highlighting the stunning landscapes in the area.

“However, the road in its current state cannot provide for traffic flows not only between Armenia and Iran, but also between Vayots Dzor and Syunik Provinces and the rest of Armenia,” he claimed.

The expert stressed the narrow road section connecting the villages of Shaghap and Lanjanist, as well as the Vedi road are difficult to pass even for passenger vehicles and a few trucks could create a huge traffic jam.

“In this sense, the role of Tigranashen is not overestimated at all, it is indeed a vital part of an international road of strategic importance. Like every other piece of sacred Armenian land, it should not be ceded to the enemy,” Voskanyan stated.

Armenian police officer faces prosecution after beating minor

June 2 2023
 2 June 2023

A senior police officer in Dilijan, north Armenia, is facing criminal prosecution after beating a minor working as a waiter. While the incident was reported in May, a criminal case against the officer was only reopened after a video of the incident was widely shared on social media.

Armenia’s Investigative Committee stated that while Arsen Ghaitmazyan, the head of the criminal department of the town’s police force, beat the teenager on 10 April, the victim’s parents only addressed law enforcement agencies on 10 May, reports RFE/RL

Armenian news outlet Armlur.am on Thursday published a one-minute video in which an adult man can be seen attacking a teenager, pulling him around a kitchen and repeatedly hitting him. At the end of the video, the victim, reported to be either 16 or 17 years old, is seen running away from his attacker.

The young man’s lawyer, Sasun Rafayelyan, told RFE/RL that Ghaitmazyan arrived at the hotel drunk, and wanted to rent a hotel room.

The minor, who was an employee of the Haghartsin restaurant and hotel complex in Dilijan, asked Ghaitmazyan how long he wanted to stay at the hotel and noted that payment was required in advance. Ghaitmazyan disagreed and stated that he would ‘pay whenever he wanted’, said Rafayelyan, before beginning the conflict.

The video also shows another person present in the kitchen throughout the incident, who does not make any attempt to intervene. The bystander has not yet been publicly identified.

The incident was reported on 10 May, and a criminal case opened on the same day, said Gor Abramyan, the spokesperson for Armenia’s Investigative Committee. However, the prosecutor’s office then decided not to charge Ghaitmazyan due to his admission of guilt, ‘active remorse’, cooperation with the investigation, and the fact that ‘bodily injuries’ were not observed on the victim.

The minor’s lawyer, however, argued that the decision not to charge Ghaitmazyan was attributable to ‘patronage’.

After the video was widely shared on 1 June, sparking public criticism of the police officer and corresponding law enforcement processes, Armenia’s Prosecutor General announced that a case had been reopened against Ghaitmazyan.

The statement, published on 2 June, added that Ghaitmazyan’s actions had caused the minor ‘severe physical pain’, while also noting that the investigation would additionally assess possible violations of child labour laws by the hotel and restaurant.

Daniel Ioannisyan, head of the Union of Informed Citizens, a prominent Armenian NGO, and a former member of Armenia’s Police Reform Commission, told RFE/RL on Friday that law enforcement officials have repeatedly gone unpunished after physically assaulting citizens, and suggested that police chief Vahe Ghazaryan did not want to reform the system.

‘Vahe Ghazaryan, it seems to me, is simply against real deep reforms, he wants people to be afraid of the police, that is the good state he imagines,’ said Ioannisyan.

If Ghaitmazyan is found guilty, he reportedly faces imprisonment for up to two months, or ‘restriction of freedom’ for two years.

Multiple outlets have reported that Ghaitmazyan was suspended from his official duties but are unclear as to when this took place, with some claiming this had been the case since 5 May. OC Media was unable to directly verify this information.

Asbarez: U.S. Welcomes Aliyev’s ‘Amnesty’ Offer to Artsakh Leaders

U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller

The United States on Tuesday welcomed an “amnesty” offer by President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan to Artsakh leaders during a scathing and threat-filled address he delivered in Lachin on May 28.

In addition to threatening Armenia, Aliyev also vowed more military aggression against Artsakh if its residents did not accept unconditional Azerbaijani rule.

“Everyone knows that we can carry out any [military] operation in that territory [Karabakh,]” Aliyev warned. “That is why the [Karabakh] parliament must be dissolved, the element who calls himself the president [of Karabakh] must surrender and all ministers, deputies and other officials must resign. Only then can there be talk of amnesty.”

The American support for Aliyev’s belligerent remarks was voiced during a State Department briefing on Tuesday, during which the newly-named spokesperson Matthew Miller, was hailing the progress made between Armenia and Azerbaijan ahead of scheduled talks in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova on Thursday.

“We are pleased to see that talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan have continued,” Miller said at a press briefing. “As Secretary Blinken said, peace is achievable in the South Caucasus.  We recently expressed appreciation for Prime Minister Pashinyan’s commitment to peace, and we welcome President Aliyev’s recent remarks on consideration of amnesty.”

“Armenia and Azerbaijan’s leaders will meet later this week in Chisinau with our European partners, and we hope that will be a productive step to resolving these issues at the negotiating table and not through violence,” Miller added.

“Aggressive rhetoric can only perpetuate the violence of the past; constructive dialogue—both public and private—can create peace, opportunity, and hope.  The United States stands ready to support the efforts of both parties to conclude a durable and dignified peace agreement,” Miller said.

Yerevan pushed back on Aliyev’s May 28 remarks, with the Armenia’s Foreign Ministry saying that the Azerbaijani leader not only threatened the Artsakh population with ethnic cleansing, but also threatened to launch new military attacks on Artsakh.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan wondered whether Aliyev had decided to abandon the agreement they reached in Brussels on May 14 to recognize each other’s territorial integrity and work toward ensuring security for the Artsakh population.

The State Department’s assessment of Aliyev’s remarks angered both Armenia and Artsakh, whose foreign ministries in separate statements on Wednesday questioned whether the U.S. was supporting more military threats.

Yerevan urged Washington to react “more appropriately to such statements,” according to Armenia’s foreign ministry spokesperson Ani Badalian, who also pointed out that Aliyev’s remarks “contained clear threats” to Armenia’s territorial integrity.

“We believe that the encouragement of Baku’s destructive and belligerent policy runs counter to the desire to achieve positive developments in the peaceful settlement of the conflict,” said a statement issued by Artsakh’s foreign ministry.
