Georgia and Russia will provide a “green zone” for Armenian cargo at the Upper Lars checkpoint on the Russian-Georgian border.
Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a late-evening meeting with Armenian importers and exporters to announce that agreements had been reached with Russian and Georgian partners to ease the movement of cargo to Armenia.

Earlier on the weekend, Pashinyan had phone conversations with his Georgian and Russian counterparts Giorgi Gakharia and Mikhail Mishustin.

“I can say that we have been working with our Georgian and Russian partners in recent days and yesterday we came to an agreement that both Georgia and Russia will provide a “green zone” for Armenia-bound EAEU freight, which means that a special corridor will be available through the territory of Georgia and the Upper Lars checkpoint. In the meantime, we will have to work hard in order to give effect to the aforementioned agreements,” stated Pashinyan.

Armenia closed all its borders due to the coronavirus outbreak. Because of this geographic lockdown, people fear that there will be shortages of basic goods and food.

In response to these concerns, Pashinyan stressed that Armenia has sufficient stocks of supplies available in the country.

“We also need to understand how we can coordinate export and import issues during this period so that the agreements we have had with the political leadership of Russia and Georgia can be implemented properly,” he added.

More than seventy percent of Armenia’s trade travels via the territory of Georgia, while the rest goes via Iran. Armenia’s two other borders with Turkey and Azerbaijan remain closed since the beginning of the 1990s.

‘Stay home for us’, asks Armenian doctor

Panorama, Armenia

Ashot Papikyan, a doctor from Nork Infectious Clinical Hospital in Yerevan treating coronavirus patients, took to Facebook on Monday to urge people to stay home.

“It's been 13 days since I and almost all of our personnel have been isolated. I can’t see my kids and wife just because we work around the clock and have contact with both confirmed and suspected coronavirus cases.

“Being a doctor and infectious disease specialist, my conscience, professional discipline and the oath I have taken does not allow me to refuse to treat patients,” the doctor wrote.

“But I am amazed by what is happening along the streets of Yerevan now; everyone behaves as if nothing has happened.

“Why don’t you stay home? If you don’t stay home doctors will stay home and not only…” Papikyan said, stressing no one is guarded against the risk of coronavirus, especially medical workers who are in close contact with patients all the time.

“Doctors want to go home too, and when we stay home, it will be late for you! Then don't ask us to come to work just because you feel sick.

"Just think a little… we stayed at work for you, you stay home for us,” he wrote.

Armenia premier: We have decided that we need to provide broad support to our economy, businesses

YEREVAN. – Our biggest task is not only and not so much to prevent the spread of coronavirus, but to ensure that we do not have deaths, or the least deaths, as its result. Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said this on Facebook livestream while presenting their strategy to combat coronavirus in the country.

According to him, the government's respective decisions are divided into two directions: Prevention of the spread of coronavirus; and the economic situation.

"We have decided that we need to provide broad support to our economy and our businesses," he said, in particular. “We are already preparing the package to provide preferential loans to companies that will need support to pay salaries to their employees, carry out their tax duties, import raw materials, organize production, and make strategic investments.

Banks may not be too keen on giving extensive loans to farmers under these programs. We have decided that the government should have some involvement. For individuals who will be involved in the rural strategy programs we propose, the government will first zero the interests and finance up to 30% in the case of individuals. We expect that with these programs, all citizens with a good credit history will easily get loans."

The Prime Minister noted that assistance will also be provided to those citizens who become unemployed due to coronavirus.

As reported earlier, the number of people infected with coronavirus has reached 194 in Armenia.

‘There is a group living in Sumgait prepared to commit Armenocide at any point’: Mariam Avagyan

Aravot, Armenia
Feb 26 2020

“The reality of Sumgait and the Sumgait phenomenon in general is not fully understood by the Armenian state, I would say. Until today, the Sumgait phenomenon has not received state, political, legal, moral, and humanitarian assessments. And, in a strange way, the genocidal machine placed in the west of the Caspian is still working and still in progress,” the coordinator of the Congress of Armenian Refugees from the Azerbaijani SSR, Mariam Avagyan, said during a press conference at the Tesaket press club.

She said that the Sumgait reality did not take place between February 26 and February 29, 1988, but it started at the end of 1987 when a falsified model was created by the massive resources of political technology and the entire process of how to carry out a massacre in Sumgait was established.

“This process is still being created by the same political technologies. The history of Sumgait is included in history textbooks in Azerbaijan with myths, of course, that the Armenians did it. And there is an interesting basis for this; they claim that Armenians say that the number of victims is too low so that they can avoid being blamed for it. When we speak to those who survived the Armenocide in Sumgait, they all confirm that the murderers were mostly children, particularly between 12-14 years old. Those children are now between 45-50 years old and their children are learning about the history of Sumgait in school. It seems that the plan to commit Armenocide is so deeply in place that, aside from the native, stateless people living in Sumgait, there is also a group living there that acts like a screw to hold the genocide machine in place. This group is prepared to commit Armenocide at any point as long as the opportunity arises,” Mariam Avagyan said.

Mariam Avagyan and the author of Sumgait… Genocide… Glasnost?, Hrayr Ulubabyan, spoke about how the authorities are not giving proper attention to the Sumgait issue. The state system is not speaking about the scale of those compensated for Sumgait because then they will be forced to make a political assessment. “It has been several years that the authorities are simply making statements that we cannot allow this to happen again. But no one says how that is possible,” Hrayr Ulubabyan said.
