YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 19, ARMENPRESS. United States Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) is calling on the U.S. government to increase aid to Artsakh deportees of the 2020 war and cutting aid to Azerbaijan.

“This week, I met with Armenian refugees of the 44 Day War. After hearing their stories and meeting their children, it’s clear that we must do more to acknowledge the atrocities that happened and to hold Azerbaijan accountable.

As a Jewish American, the targeting of ethnic minorities is deeply personal for me. The U.S. must do more to stand with Armenians, including expanding aid to Artsakh deportees and cutting aid to Azerbaijan,” Gottheimer tweeted.

Kocharyan: Lukashenko said what others think about Armenia

Armenia – Feb 17 2022

Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan says that President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko had to stay within the limits of political correctness in his statements about Armenia. Nevertheless, he said what others think about Armenia.

"You can have different opinions about Lukashenko, but one thing is clear: he always speaks his mind,” he told a news conference on Thursday.

“Naturally, the head of state does not always have to say what he thinks, but he does. However, I don't understand the tough reactions caused by Lukashenko's remarks," Kocharyan said.

According to him, Lukashenka's remarks can by no means be compared to the Azerbaijani president’s statements, which have received no response from Armenia.

"Of course, the Belarusian president should not have spoken in such a tone and had to stay within the limits of correctness. But we also have to realize that he has said what others think about Armenia. In the meantime, the authorities are doing everything possible to make such an attitude towards Armenia even more entrenched, or they are doing nothing to make the leaders of other countries to change their opinion,” he noted.

In a recent interview with Russian journalist Vladimir Solovyov, Lukashenko said the Union State of Russia and Belarus should expand and include most of the ex-Soviet states, including Armenia.

“Armenia has nowhere to run. Do you think anyone needs them? They have already seen it,” he said.

Oppositionist: You have to be Civil Contract member to see positive signals from Turkey

Armenia – Feb 10 2022

MP Hayk Mamijanyan, who represents the opposition With Honor faction, on Thursday deplored the Armenian authorities’ statements that there are positive signals from Turkey regarding the Armenia-Turkey normalization process.

"The Turkish president has repeatedly stated that all preconditions put forward by the Turkish side remain in force, while the "corridor logic" issue has also been added to them,” the MP told a briefing.

Earlier in December, the Turkish vice-president spoke about the active involvement of the Turkish special forces in the 44-day war in Artsakh. Afterwards, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that Turkey had consulted with and received the approval of Azerbaijan for the launch of Yerevan-Istanbul flights, Mamijanian recalled.

The MP stressed that he did not notice any positive signals, adding in all cases when they were seen by Nikol Pashinyan and the ruling Civil Contract party members, Armenia had “territorial losses and casualties”.

"You have to be from Civil Contract to see positive signals. I am afraid to imagine what could happen this time," the deputy said.

Electricity fees increase in Armenia as of today

  News.am
Armenia – Feb 1 2022

As of Tuesday, the residents of Armenia will have to pay an average of 4.7 drams more for one kilowatt of electricity.

The respective decision by the Public Services Regulatory Commission—and which was made at the end of last year—enters into force today.

The main reasons for the increase in electricity prices in Armenia are the $270-million loan taken for the upgrading of the country nuclear power plant and Armenia’s unfulfilled obligations to the Russian Gazprom company.

To note, the fee for water supply has already risen in Armenia as of January 1, and the natural gas tariff is also expected to increase in the country—and most likely as of April 1.
