Ten million drams will be enough for forced migrants from Berdzor and Akhavno to buy an apartment in small settlements or private houses in rural communities in Armenia, mostly real estate without repair is sold for the mentioned amount, says real estate specialists interviewed by the “Caucasian Knot”.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the administration of the Kashatag District of Nagorno-Karabakh reported that residents of Berdzor (the Azerbaijani name is Lachin, – note of the “Caucasian Knot”) and the village of Akhavno (the Azerbaijani name is Zabukh, – note of the “Caucasian Knot”) must leave their houses by August 20. The Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Nagorno-Karabakh reports that families who move to Armenia will receive a certificate in the amount of 10 million drams (almost 25,000 US dollars) for the purchase of housing.

Ten million drams will be enough to purchase real estate in the regions of Armenia, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent has been explained by a consultant of the “Yerkir Real Estate Agency” real estate company located in Yerevan. According to the real estate specialist, the amount of 10 million drams will be not enough to buy real estate in Yerevan and in the suburbs of the Armenian capital.

Lilit Martirosyan, a broker of the “Goris Realty” real estate company, notes that in Goris with its population of over 20,000, the amount of 10 million drams will be enough to purchase an old private house without repair. According to the real estate specialist, the prices for habitable private houses start from 15 million drams. “With 10 million drams, you can buy a one-room apartment with repairs or a two-room apartment without repairs,” Lilit Martirosyan told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

According to the expert, the amount of 10 million drams is also enough to buy a house in a village. “For 10-11 million drams, you can find houses in the village of Khartashen with 170 inhabitants and in the village of Verishen with over 2200 inhabitants,” the real estate specialist noted.

Azerbaijan insists on removal of Armenian population from Lachin and two villages

CAUCASIAN KNOT
Aug 18 2022
The Armenian population of Lachin and the villages of Akhavno and Sus must leave these territories, the Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliev, has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that residents of Berdzor (the Azerbaijani name is Lachin, – note of the "Caucasian Knot") and the village of Akhavno (the Azerbaijani name is Zabukh, – note of the "Caucasian Knot") in Nagorno-Karabakh must leave their houses before August 20, as from that day on, communications will be cut off in these dwelling settlements, local authorities have confirmed.

According to the agreement signed by Aliev, Pashinyan and Putin, Armenia transferred the territory of the Lachin District to Azerbaijan. In June 2022, the Azerbaijan State Highway Agency reported that the construction of the 32-kilometre-long Azerbaijani section of the road continues at an accelerated pace and is scheduled to be completed this year. The transfer of Lachin (the Armenian name is Berdzor) under Azerbaijan's control was delayed due to the absence of an alternative road from Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia. After the launch of this road, Lachin will be transferred to Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani experts explained in July.

The people illegally settled in the town of Lachin and the villages of Zabukh and Sus must be evicted, Ilham Aliev said in an interview with the Azerbaijani TV on August 12. "Their presence there, in essence, is a war crime, because it contradicts the rules of the Geneva Convention. (…) Perhaps the Armenians living there, who came from Syria and Lebanon, don't know this, but the leadership of Armenia is well aware of this. Let them not to test us and our patience again. Let them leave of their own free will. We are not interested in where they go. We must return to Lachin, Zabukh and Sus. I instructed the State Committee for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons to contact residents of Lachin, Sus and Zabukh; and we'll soon return them to their native places," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has translated the words of the Azeri President.

AW: ANC of Illinois highlights recent Azerbaijani attacks on Artsakh in meetings with elected officials

Pictured left to right during their meeting are Renee Devedjian, Rep. Brad Schneider and Vartan Seferian

The Armenian National Committee (ANC) of Illinois recently concluded four meetings with appropriate staff members to discuss many topics that affect our homeland, continuing its Representative Meeting Initiative that began last December. The meetings were held directly with representatives or staffers from the following offices: Senator Dick Durbin and Rep. Brad Schneider of the 10th district, Rep. Cheri Bustos of the 17th district and Rep. Robin Kelly of the 2nd district.

The ANC of Illinois began its series of meetings on August 3, meeting with Congresswoman Bustos’ staffer Brian Belongia. ANC of Illinois member Kenneth Hachikian led the meeting. The following day, constituents of the 10th district Renee Devedjian and Vartan Seferian held an in-person meeting with Rep. Schneider at his office.

On August 8, Hachikian met virtually with staff member Brandon Difulvio of Congresswoman Kelly’s office. The final meeting was held via Zoom with Senator Durbin’s foreign policy/defense staffer Corey Cowen. While many of these meetings did not require constituents, the ANC of Illinois is always looking for Armenians wanting to engage in helping lobby for our homeland.

Discussions included support around:

  • H.R. 7555 – Armenian Genocide Education Act
  • H.R. 240 – Calling on Azerbaijan to immediately release all prisoners of war and captured civilians
  • Aid to Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) – $50M to Artsakh as part of the FY2023 Foreign Aid Bill
  • Aid to Armenia – $100 million to Armenia as part of the FY2023 Foreign Aid Bill
  • Azerbaijan – Removing the waiver authority under section 907 of the Freedom Support Act, zeroing out FMF and IMETaid to Azerbaijan
    • Including the following language in the body of the Act: No funds appropriated or otherwise made available under this Act may be provided to the government of Azerbaijan for US military or security programs.

While scheduling the meetings and during the actual meetings, the ANC of Illinois sent out an email with an attached memo from the ANCA that highlighted the most recent attack by Azerbaijan on the innocent people of Artsakh that killed two and injured 19. The above legislative actions were stressed.

The responses from all of the representatives were positive, but now we have to see what type of action they take to back up their words. These types of meetings are always beneficial to our cause as we must continue to be vigilant and do what we can to support our brothers and sisters in our homeland by attempting to protect our sovereignty and working for justice. The ANC of Illinois is currently working on scheduling meetings with Bill Foster Il-11, Sean Casten Il-6, Lauren Underwood Il-14, and Mike Quigley IL-5. While we did not meet with Jan Schakowsky Il-9 or Raja Krishnamoorthi Il-8, they have always been friends and both tweeted about the situation in Artsakh.

We are encouraging more constituents to assist the ANC of Illinois in these meetings. If you’d like to participate, email [email protected].

The Armenian National Committee of America Eastern Region is part of the largest and most influential Armenian American grassroots organization, the ANCA. Working in coordination with the ANCA in Washington, DC, and a network of chapters and supporters throughout the Eastern United States, the ANCA-ER actively advances the concerns of the Armenian American community on a broad range of issues.

Opposition MP: We will not have democracy as long as Armenia is ruled by occupation gang

NEWS.am
Armenia – Aug 12 2022

As long as the country is ruled by the occupation gang, which pursues the goal of beheading all forces, we will not have democracy. This was stated by Aspram Krpeyan, an opposition MP of Armenia, during a discussion on Friday.

According to her, not a classical opposition-authorities’ relation has been established in Armenia, but rather a fight is being waged against the criminal gang that has occupied the Armenian state and is advancing the Turkish agenda.

"Under these circumstances, it is naive to expect any active response from the international community, an active response from the ‘civil society’ serving the interests of the criminal gang. We have no such expectations. During this time, we have become witnesses of lustration, we have clearly seen who the true supporter of democracy and human rights is, and who has been promoting just fake democracy for a long time," Krpeyan emphasized.

The opposition lawmaker noted that there cannot be a true democratic system in the country without a stable security mechanism, and that it is only under these conditions that it is possible to form the necessary environment for the development of democracy.

She expressed confidence that all legal mechanisms should be used.

"The parliamentary opposition submitted 14 petitions to the Constitutional Court during this period," Krpeyan recalled.

YEREVAN, AUGUST 11, ARMENPRESS. The situation around the Lachin Corridor connecting Nagorno Karabakh with Armenia must be resolved based on point 6 of the 2020, November 9 trilateral statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry Department of Information and Press Deputy Director Ivan Nechayev said at a press briefing.

He reminded that on August 4 they released a statement regarding the escalation in Nagorno Karabakh, calling on the parties to display restraint and adhere to the ceasefire.

“We reiterate the need to resolve all issues in accordance with the 2020 November 9, 2021 January 11 and November 26 statements of the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. This pertains also to the Lachin Corridor, the situation around which must be solved based on point 6 of the 2020 November 9 trilateral statement, which defines that as agreed by the parties in the next three years a plan to construct a new route along the Lachin Corridor will be determined to provide connection between Nagorno Karabakh and Armenia, with the subsequent re-deployment of the Russian peacekeeping contingent to protect this route,” Nechayev said.

He said that all abovementioned issues, including the issue of the Lachin Corridor, are subject to consultations with the purpose of finding solutions satisfying the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides.

“Parallel to intense political discussions, the Russian peacekeepers are actively working, who are making necessary efforts in the direction of stabilizing the situation on the ground. Earlier both in Baku and in Yerevan the important role of the Russian peacekeeping contingent was emphasized not once. We find separate criticisms towards the peacekeepers to be unjustified,” Nechayev said.

Azerbaijan specialist: Armenia opposition will not achieve change of power with such methods

NEWS.am
Armenia – Aug 9 2022

With such methods, the opposition will not achieve a change of power in Armenia. Armine Adibekyan, an expert on Azerbaijan affairs, told this to a press conference Tuesday.

"If the [Armenian] opposition thinks that on September 2 the people will assemble with the slogan ‘Death to [PM] Nikol [Pashinyan]’ and the situation will change, then they are wrong. There is no change of power with such methods. If they know it, but don't do [it], then I can't say anything good about them," said Adibekyan.

She explained that in order to change the power, it is necessary to invest resources and invite specialists.

"People should be motivated to take action, and that motivation is formed as a result of correct, targeted work. The slogans of Paphos are of little interest to anyone. Area specialists should deal with these matters," the analyst emphasized.

Adibekyan is convinced that come September, the Armenian authorities will start a new round of repression.

The Armenian opposition plans to hold a rally on September 2, the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Independence Day anniversary.
