Lebanese-Armenians settling in Artsakh to be provided with jobs, housing, president says

Panorama, Armenia
Sept 2 2020

"Each of us must do our best to successfully resolve even the seemingly unsolvable problems. We have the necessary will, potential and determination for it, "Artsakh Republic President Arayik Harutyunyan told a news conference on Wednesday, summing up his first 100 days in office.

The president opened the press conference by extending congratulations on the Artsakh Republic Day. He wished peaceful and fruitful work to all for the benefit of the homeland and the Armenian people.

According to the Artsakh leader, much work has been done in different spheres during his tenure. But, he stressed, the primary work has been carried out in the defense sphere.

"In the defense sector, we have adopted the principle of 'strong border, strong rear and protected homeland' principle, which is enshrined in the action plan for 2020-2025. In order to implement this principle, necessary work is being done to strengthen the defense of our country, to increase the level of combat readiness of the army, and to continuously improve the service and social conditions of servicemen,” he said.

In Harutyunyan’s words, all reserve officers, freedom fighters of the Artsakh Liberation War and veterans of the Great Patriotic War have free access to the services of Artsakh and Armenian medical centers from September 1.

“The weaponry upgraded by experts of the Armenian military industry are already successfully used in the Armed Forces. Local agricultural products have been added to the food supply of the Defense Army,” the Artsakh leader said, stressing peace can be imposed only by strengthening the country’s army.

Harutyunyan stressed that the employees of all law enforcement agencies – Police, NSS, Rescue Service – must master the skills of using different types of military equipment and join the military in case of necessity.

As for domestic security, the Artsakh leader noted that the police and the Department of Emergency Situations are also involved in the military service to protect the Artsakh borders. "Since September 1, the salaries of police officers have increased. It was very low, now it has risen significantly. In that sense, the status of a police officer is important for our internal security. The issue of food security is being resolved at the moment,” he said.

Reflecting on the country’s foreign policy, Arayik Harutyunyan said that Artsakh pursues a multi-vector, balanced and constructive foreign policy, continuing to establish friendly, mutually beneficial, equitable political and economic relations with foreign states as much as possible.

"We stay focused on the international recognition of the Artsakh Republic and the development of centralized cooperation. Preparations are underway to expand the geography of international cooperation of Artsakh. The political leadership of the two Armenian states regularly hold consultations on the peaceful settlement of the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict,” the president said. "We can express satisfaction over the fact that the visions of the two Armenian states on establishing lasting peace in the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict zone coincide.”

He informed that the Artsakh-Diaspora ties are also being strengthened, as evidenced by the creation of a working group to organize and coordinate the process of providing financial assistance to the Armenian community of Lebanon in the wake of the deadly Beirut blast.

He recalled that Artsakh has rendered humanitarian assistance, mostly food, to Beirut and the Artsakh government has allocated 35 million drams to the Armenian community of Lebanon.

Harutyunyan said that the transfer of a number of Lebanese-Armenian families wishing to settle in Artsakh is in progress. According to the president, they will be provided with jobs and housing. Several Lebanese-Armenian families already live in Artsakh, he added.

"Artsakh will continue to support our brothers and sisters living in various corners of the world," he assured.

Fight and die for Turkey? Members of Erdoğan’s AKP avoided compulsory military service with fake papers

Fight and die for Turkey? Members of Erdoğan’s AKP avoided compulsory
military service with fake papers

by Paul Antonopoulos

There is little doubt that Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development
Party (AKP) are increasing war rhetoric against Greece.

Metin Külünk, an ideologue of Erdoğan’s and Member of Parliament for
the AKP that was in the same youth movement as Erdoğan, went to
Twitter to call for a Greater Turkey. Külünk called for a Greater
Turkey that includes large areas of northern Greece and the east
Aegean islands, half of Bulgaria, Cyprus and Armenia in its entirety,
and large areas of Georgia, Iraq and Syria, as previously reported by
Greek City Times.

In fact, only yesterday, Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay, commented
on the “12 nautical miles” and said “If this is not a reason for war,
then what is?” and that Turks “cry out” to occupy Greek islands.

At one AKP rally, members shouted at Erdoğan to “go to Afrin,” to
which he replied: “If necessary, we will all go together. First me and
then you with me.”

What followed was an invasion of Afrin in Syria’s north, which
expelled the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) who are the
Syrian branch of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

We’ve seen Turkey intervene in Syria, taking advantage of a country
that has been devastated for over nine years by Turkish-backed
jihadists. Turkey also military intervene in Libya that been gripped
by war since 2011, just as Syria has.

However, a war with Greece is entirely different scenario. Not only
has the Greek Navy never lost a battle since its modern formation in
1821, and not only have Greek pilots won NATO’s “Best Warrior” award
in consecutive years, but Greeks are more united then over.

It is for this reason that Turks are less willing to go to war
compared to Greeks despite their own country creating the hostilities.

So the question becomes of course, who in Turkey would be willing to
fight the Greeks. Of course, although it is the AKP, with support from
other factions in Turkey including the so-called “progressive”
Kemalists, that are drumming the beats of war, it appears that even
they are not so enthusiastic for war.

This would explain why they are stirring an ultra-nationalistic
rhetoric to prepare the population for war, while protecting their
own, expecting others to die for their delusions of occupying Greek
islands.

Dozens of AKP members, according to Liberal Demokrat Yazarlar, have
presented false certificates, in order to avoid military service.

Some names:

Ahmet Burak Erdoğan, son of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Necmettin Bilal Erdoğan, son of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Ahmet Moutzachit Arınç, son of Bülent Arınç – AKP founder.

Suleyman VOURAL, nephew of Binali Yıldırım AKP founder.

Enes Çelik, son of Labor Minister Faruk Çelik.

Yusuf Şamlı, nephew of Environment Minister İdris Güllüce.

Osman Çavuşoğlu, nephew of Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.

Ahmet Bahadır Çağlayan, nephew of former Minister Zafer Çağlayan.

Mahmut Hakan Güler, nephew of former Minister Muammer Güler.

Nedim Eker, nephew of Agriculture Minister Mehmet Mehdi Eker.

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 1, ARMENPRESS. President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian addressed a congratulatory message on the occasion of Knowledge and Schooling Day, the Presidential Office told Armenpress.

The message runs as follows:

“Dear pupils and students, tutors and parents,

Today is the Knowledge and Schooling Day, and on this occasion I congratulate you all and send my best wishes.

My special congratulations go to the first-graders and teachers who will enter the school for the first time.

The road leading to knowledge has always been enjoyable and difficult. It becomes especially difficult in extraordinary situations.

But a person is not only able to set a goal but also overcome emerging difficulties.

You, today’s generation, have the opportunity to do it not only in a classical way but also by using modern technologies, by creating and mastering them. But before it, the first step to be done is entering the school.

The path, which will become your life road, starts here. It is the road toward simple human relations, road to work, road to love and happiness and, certainly, toward knowledge.

Knowledge about life, people, the world and nature… It is a key which seems to be far away but in reality it is very close and available. It is a key which can open every door, from the door of your home, to a space shuttle door, from the door to the most secret hiding place in our heart, to a seemingly unlockable door of artificial intelligence. To master that key is easy – it is necessary to learn, to toil, to work.

Dear pupils and students, you get the knowledge with the help of your teachers in kindergarten, in school, your lecturers in university, and, certainly, your parents. I take this opportunity to thank all tutors and especially our first teachers who leave a profound imprint in our life. Knowledge is power which allows to move mountains in direct and indirect sense.

That power comes first of all from the Family, Fatherland, and native land. Fatherland ought to become the main place where your knowledge will be used. You can receive the best possible education and knowledge, master foreign languages and modern technologies, create artificial intelligence with your own intelligence and channel it towards the creation of great values.

But always remember that familial and national values come first as well as national interests. Knowledge is a double-edged sword:

It can help but also can harm if it is not supported by the highest human values and morality, which are based on the love for the man and the nature, love and dedication to Fatherland, to one’s own history and nation.

I wish you good health and peace, success and all the best”.
