Serzh Sargsyan receives Second All-Armenian Scientific Conference participants

Today, Serzh Sargsyan received a group of participants of the 2nd All-Armenian Scientific Conference held in Yerevan on November 5-8. The delegation consisted of prominent Armenian scientists and scholars from the United States, Russia, France, Ireland, Denmark and other countries.

Welcoming the scientists to Homeland, Serzh Sargsyan highlighted the holding of this already traditional conference in capital Yerevan.

“It is crucial for young people to have the opportunity of communicating with individuals who have already achieved great success in science and technology, but I believe that this forum is also important from another perspective: it is not only a chance for young people to get familiar with new scientific ideas, but it is also a good opportunity to see how successful people can be of service to our country. We have no other way but to build a knowledge-based economy,” Mr. Sargsyan emphasized, presenting Armenia’s consistent policy of encouraging and promoting successful scientists and the individuals with great aspirations amid the financial constraints faced in the country.

The scientists in attendance talked about their impressions of the President-supported All-Armenian Scientific Conference, dwelling on the achievements recorded since the first forum. They evoked those substantive discussions held with many young Armenian researchers that are supposed to combine the scientific potential of Armenia and the Diaspora, exchange know-how, as well as to discuss issues relevant research and education and the ways of dealing with them in a bid to promote Armenia’s development.

The guests exchanged ideas with Mr. Sargsyan on further cooperation for the promotion of science and education in Armenia. During the meeting, Serzh Sargsyan answered the scientists’ questions.

Georgia’s Foreign Ministry has commented on reports of the refusal to grant an agrement to Sergey Minasyan for his appointment as the Armenian ambassador to Georgia.

The decisions taken on ambassadors are open to the public, the Georgian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

“When decisions are taken in connection with ambassadors, they are always open to the public, and any speculation on this issue is inappropriate,” said the statement.

Armenia’s Zhamanak newspaper claimed that Tbilisi refused to grant an agrement to Sergey Minasyan, deputy director of the Caucasus Institute, for his appointment as the Armenian ambassador to Georgia.

“The Georgian authorities have serious suspicions that Minasyan will not represent Armenia, but Russia,” the newspaper wrote.

Garnik Isagulyan: Armenia should toughen its stance (video)

In Artsakh electoral processes are better than in Armenia or in the West, an advisor at the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Permanent Representation to Armenia said on Tuesday.

“What is happening in Artsakh today, I am speaking about the economic growth and large-scale construction, show that serious work is being done there. The opening of the Ministry of Nature Protection was not accidental either. Artsakh will soon switch to a drip irrigation system, which will help save more water and have a good crop,” said Garnik Isagulyan.

He says there was no breakthrough after the meeting of Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan. “The position of the Armenian side has been very clear since the events of last April and I think that Armenia should further toughen its position,” he said.

Religion: Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross to be celebrated in Armenia on Sunday

Panorama, Armenia
Sept 16 2017

The Saturday preceding the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is the eve of the feast. That day, as well as the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday following the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross are the feasts of the Holy Church.

The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is the last one of the five major feasts of the Armenian Apostolic Church. It is the most important feast among the ones dedicated to the Holy Cross as it is dedicated to the history of the return of the Holy Cross from imprisonment, its elevation and glorification, Qahana.am reports.

The Armenian Apostolic Church celebrates the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross on Sunday during the period between September 11-17. This year that date is September 17, and the Monday following the Feast is a Memorial Day, when a divine liturgy and a requiem service are offered in Armenian churches.

In 610 A. D, the Persian King Khosrov with a large army attacks the Byzantine Empire. Enthusiastic about the initial victory, in 614 A. D. the Persian army enters Jerusalem. Many people are killed and many are imprisoned. Pontiff Zakaria, the Patriarch of Jerusalem is imprisoned, too. However, the Persians are not satisfied and enter the Church of Holy Sepulcher and take the Holy Cross kept in the Church. The Holy Cross had been found and installed in the Church for the Christians to worship by Heghineh, the mother of the King Costandianos, in the beginning of the 4th century.

In 628 A. D., the Byzantine army led by the King Herakles fight against the Persians to return the Holy Cross. The Armenian army regiment, led by Mzhezh Gnounie, supported the Persian army. With the Lord’s help the Byzantine army wins the battle.

The Holy Cross is solemnly brought to the Armenian town Karin, from where it is carried to Constantinople, and then – to Jerusalem. On the way, the Holy Cross was raised for the people to see and worship.

For Christians the Cross is God’s power and strength and pride of all prides, on which Christ’s innocent blood was shed. By means of the Cross Jesus proved His love towards mankind, and the Cross became for us the symbol of hope, love and saving.

YEREVAN—Past Commander of the Knights of Vartan Ani Lodge of Washington D.C. Mr. Jake Bournazian, traveled to Artsakh with his son and daughter on July 17 to make the endowment on behalf of Knights of Vartan in Artsakh. Construction of the new oncology dispensary was recently completed, in May 2017, through funding from Vardan and Koharig Ohanessian in France. During his visit, Bournazian met with Minister Atayan to discuss the major equipment needs to enable the dispensary to be operational. After the meeting, Bournazian and his family visited with the doctors and nursing staff at the current facility where patients are diagnosed, and then toured the new building of the oncology dispensary.

“The newly built oncology dispensary building needs more medical equipment, and this donation from Knights of Vartan will be used to help improve healthcare for cancer patients in Artsakh. Cancer rates have dramatically increased in the population in Artsakh over the past 10 years. Any support to improve the life of our compatriots is very much appreciated,” said Atayan.

“It is great to see so many improvements in Artsakh today, but still there is much to be done. I hope this example from our lodge will inspire others to follow,” said Bournazian. The Knights of Vartan organization has been operating for the benefit of Armenian people in the homeland and in the diaspora—both directly and through its mission partners—for over a century. Today, there are 24 chapters of the Knights of Vartan throughout the United States.

In 2016, the Knight of Vartan opened its communication office in Yerevan to facilitate communication with its mission partners.
