"In the framework of a basic semiclassical time-dependent nonlinear
two-state problem, we study the weak coupling limit of the nonlinear
Landau-Zener transition at coherent photo- and magneto-association
of an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate. Using an exact third-order
nonlinear differential equation for the molecular state probability,
we develop a variational approach which enables us to construct
an accurate analytic approximation describing time dynamics of
the coupled atom-molecular system for the case of weak coupling,"
scientists writing in the journal Laser Physics report.

"The approximation is written in terms of the solution to an
auxiliary linear Landau-Zener problem with some effective Landau-Zener
parameter. The dependence of this effective parameter on the input
Landau-Zener parameter is found to be unexpected: as the generic
Landau-Zener parameter increases, the effective Landau-Zener parameter
first monotonically increases (starting from zero), reaches its
maximal value and then monotonically decreases again reaching zero
at some point. The constructed approximation quantitatively well
describes many characteristics of the time dynamics of the system,
in particular, it provides a highly accurate formula for the final
transition probability to the molecular state. The present result for
the final transition probability improves the accuracy of the previous
approximation by Ishkhanyan et al. [Phys. Rev. A 69, 043612 (2004); J.

Armenian Assembly Participates In UCSD Holocaust Living Workshop

ARMENIAN ASSEMBLY PARTICIPATES IN UCSD HOLOCAUST LIVING WORKSHOP

PanARMENIAN.Net
May 4, 2010 – 11:39 AMT 06:39 GMT

The Armenian Assembly of America (Assembly) participated in the
University of California San Diego (UCSD) Holocaust Living History
Workshop symposium "From Racism to Genocide: Towards a Hate-Free
Campus" last month as part of its efforts to raise awareness about
the importance of genocide prevention and the dangers of denial.

Hosted jointly by the UCSD International Affairs Group and the Hillel
Center, the event explored examples of racism in the 20th century that
led to mass murder and genocide. It marked the first in a series of
seminars held on campus to encourage greater sensitivity and awareness
among the student body on issues relating to everyday cases of racism
and genocide.

Moderated by Marina Triner, Program Coordinator for the UCSD Holocaust
Living Workshop, the symposium featured the Assembly’s Western Region
Director Yeghig Keshishian, who focused on the Armenian Genocide,
and examined discriminatory laws and regulations in the Ottoman Empire
that fostered intolerance and legitimized racially motivated actions
based on certain long-held stereotypes.

"The experience of the Armenian Genocide is paramount to any
discussion of genocide, intolerance, and hatred. It is a tragic story,
because of its present denial by the modern Republic of Turkey, the
successor state of the Ottoman Empire responsible for the genocide,"
stated Triner. "Including the story of the Armenians in the present
discussion of racism on the UCSD campus was so important to me,
because the Ottoman Turks relied on the use of certain stereotypes to
fuel their genocidal campaign, and because denial is still occurring,
even in the U.S."

The program closed with a moving and personal account by Holocaust
survivor Agatha Ehrenfried who explained how hatred creates major
disruptions in society which, in turn, are used to legitimize acts
of violence and the devaluation of human life.

Program Coordinator Triner also touched on the problem of denial
and why it is important to confront it. "Denial is always the easy
way out for those whose lives have not been touched by tragedy, but
it is acknowledgment, both for the Armenian case and for our own,
that could bring about change and a healing of the soul for all who
have ever been impacted by acts of hatred. I am thankful that the
Armenian experience will be shared on our campus and hopeful that
it will teach us to speak the truth and to recognize our own biases,
large and small, in our everyday lives," stated Triner.

in Armenia" program support organization of the exhibition.

Germany Partially Guilty In Armenian Genocide: Kurdish Historian

GERMANY PARTIALLY GUILTY IN ARMENIAN GENOCIDE: KURDISH HISTORIAN

Germany is partially guilty in perpetration of Armenian Genocide in
1915, renowned Kurdish public figure and historian Recep Marasli told
at the conference organized by Armenian democrats of Belgium.

In his May 2 speech at the Brussels conference dedicated to Armenian
Genocide, Marasli underlined that in 1915 Young Turks perpetrated
Genocide, Firat news agency reports. "Germany was closely cooperating
with Young Turks then. While planning genocide, they got major support
from Germany. Germany could not be unaware of the preplanned genocide,"
historian said.

Marasli is known for his "Armenian National Democratic Movement and
1915 Genocide" book – a result of 25 year research.

A passage from the book reads: "Massacre perpetrated by Turkey against
Armenians is genocide and Turkish government is in charge of it. It is
an undisputable fact. Genocide recognizes no motivations. Genocide,
perpetrated against Armenians is the major crime against humanity
and it should be condemned."

U.S. To Change Posture Towards Armenia: Cory Welt

U.S. TO CHANGE POSTURE TOWARDS ARMENIA: CORY WELT

The biggest mistake of Obama administration is that it did not exert
sufficient pressure on Turkish Justice and Development Party to approve
Armenia-Turkey Protocols not linking them with Karabakh conflict,
said Cory Welt, Associate Director of Institute for European, Russian
and Eurasian Studies at the Elliott School of International Affairs
of the George Washington University, Voice of America reports.

According to him, if Washington steps up pressure on Turkish ruling
party, it would have been clear for the U.S. that Karabakh issue is
a cornerstone from regional security viewpoint.

U.S. should change its posture towards Armenia and join Turkey
to demand concessions on Nagorno-Karabakh from official Yerevan,
Welt said.

It is necessary to restore the recently strained U.S.-Azerbaijan
relations, meanwhile seeking more effective ways to normalize
Armenia-Turkey relations, he concluded.

Seda Maleryan: Private Employment Market Is In The Hands Of Swindlers

ArmInfo. Most of employment agencies in Armenia seek illicit gains
by applying fraud schemes, the chairwoman of "40+" women’s NGO Seda
Maleryan said during a press-conference today.

The basic source of income for employment agencies is fees by employed
job-seekers but today many agencies register people for money but do
nothing to place them in jobs. The registration fee is 2,000 AMD at
least and some agencies take money even for repeated applications.

Many of them even advertise such services on TV.

Some agencies agree with employers beforehand and send their applicants
to fake interviews in order to show that they are working.

In fact, they have no information about real vacancies as their
objective is not employment of their customers. They frequently change
their addresses and are off the moment they sense the slightest danger.

The key solution to this problem is licensing of employment agencies.

Maleryan’s NGO is planning to prepare such a proposal. Maleryan
promised to provide the data collected as a result of their inspections
to the law enforcement agencies. The NGO has information on 20 agencies
and will make their names public soon.

ANKARA: Armenians Ask PACE To Recognize 1915 Events As Genocide

ARMENIANS ASK PACE TO RECOGNIZE 1915 EVENTS AS GENOCIDE

Today’s Zaman
April 30 2010
Turkey

A group of deputies at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council
of Europe (PACE), led by the Armenian delegation, issued a written
declaration on Thursday calling for the recognition of events that
took place in Anatolia in 1915 as genocide.

The statement, signed by 26 deputies, asked members of PACE to
"take necessary steps for the recognition of the genocide perpetrated
against Armenians in the Ottoman Empire at the beginning of the 20th
century." The declaration has no binding effect on PACE.

The declaration says, "The year 2010 marks the 95th anniversary
of the Armenian genocide of 1915 and the fact [is] that the act of
recognition of this genocide contributes to respect for human dignity
and constitutes an act of prevention of crimes against humanity."

It claimed that a number of international bodies including the United
Nations, the European Parliament, parliaments of Council of Europe
member states including Sweden, Lithuania, Germany, Poland, the
Netherlands, Slovakia, Switzerland, France, Italy, Belgium, Greece,
Greek Cyprus and Russia, the US House of Representatives and 43 US
states, Chile, Argentina, Venezuela, Canada, Uruguay and Lebanon have
"demonstrated their unequivocal recognition of the Armenian genocide."

Deputies also asked PACE to recognize the genocide and argued
that "this will strongly contribute to an eventual similar act of
recognition by the Turkish authorities." "As a result, [it] will
lead to the normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey,"
the statement maintained. Representatives from a number of countries
including Germany, Italy, Russia, Switzerland, the UK, Ireland,
Bulgaria and Lithuania signed the declaration submitted by the
Armenian delegation.

The 30-year-old programmer Aram Ghaukasyan will soon become the
father of a second child. But before the happy day, Aram has to lie
in hospital because of his ill health.

It is already ten years Aram suffers from a rare disease – cancer of
adrenal cortex. Aram is under constant surveillance: doctors struggle
hard to prolong his life.

Aram underwent operations in 2000, 2001 and 2006. Doctors removed
his left kidney. The illness grew acute since 2009 and unfortunately,
it is developing at a terrific speed.

On doctors’ advice, Aram received two courses of chemotherapy but
treatment yielded no results. Armenian doctors cannot cure this
illness.

Recently, Aram received an invitation from the University Hospital
Basel of Switzerland. Swiss professor Richard Herrmann promised to
help Aram with their latest techniques. (Prof. Richard Herrmann,
Chefarzt der Klinik fur Medizinische Onkologie Universitatsspital,
CH-4031 Basel, Tel. +41-61-2655075, FAX +41-61-2655316)

The treatment costs 18000 CHF ($ 17000 USD). Unfortunately, Aram’s
family cannot afford the treatment at present.

Aram is a graduate of Yerevan State Engineering University and works
as a programmer. Today Aram is in need.

Turkey Cannot Mediate Karabakh Settlement – Armenian Foreign Ministr

TURKEY CANNOT MEDIATE KARABAKH SETTLEMENT – ARMENIAN FOREIGN MINISTRY

Interfax
April 27 2010
Russia

It is impossible for Turkey to mediate the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict
as a member of the OSCE Minsk Group, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward
Nalbandian said.

"This is ruled out. The Armenian president and foreign minister have
many times explained why," Nalbandian said in an interview with the
Armenian Public TV.

He, however, welcomed Iran’s desire to help resolve the Nagorno-
Karabakh conflict. "Iran expressed its desire to help, assist the
Karabakh settlement, and of course we welcome this. We also value
Iran’s balanced approach towards the Karabakh issue," Nalbandian said.
