Namik Tan Turkish Ambassador to the United States Namik Tan has
commented on the issue of recognizing the so-called "Genocide" of
Armenians by the US Congress.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkey to the United
States, Namik Tan, once former head of the Turkish diplomatic mission
in Tel Aviv, a great and worthy friend of the Azerbaijani community
in Israel, said that Armenians have been spreading the legend of the
so-called "Armenian genocide", for decades pouring mud on Turks and
Azerbaijanis and accusing them of crimes they have never committed.

‘But, unfortunately, the world knows almost nothing about the terrible
tragedy of the town of Khojaly. The Khojaly tragedy, which killed
hundreds and injured thousands of Azerbaijanis, is a tragedy all the
Turkic world. This tragedy of the brotherly people of Azerbaijan
is in line with such terrible tragedies of the twentieth century,
as Khatyn, Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Songmi,’ said Namik Tan.

According to the Turkish diplomat, Jews living in Turkey are well
aware that Turks have never committed genocide. We call this the
events of 1915.

‘This has nothing to do with genocide. We openly tell Armenians: let’s
create a joint commission of historians, attract researchers from the
third countries, begin to explore the archives and come to a common
denominator", said Tang. According to the diplomat, the Armenians
have turned the issue of "genocide" into political bargaining.

AZERBAIJANI MP: MUCH INTERESTING TO BE EXPECTED FROM TURKISH PRIME MINISTER’S VISIT TO USA

Azerbaijani MP believes that the meetings held in the United States
by the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will have an
interesting result.

"Meetings held in the United States at a summit on nuclear security
by the Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan could have an interesting
result. This result will firstly be reflected in the statements by
Erdogan and Armenian President Serj Sargsyan during their meeting. It
is possible to think that the result of his meeting with the U.S.

President Barack Obama would affect the future activities of the OSCE
Minsk Group," a member of the Political Council of New Azerbaijan Party
(YAP), MP Aydin Mirzazade said on April 12.

Today Erdogan started visiting the U.S. According to MP, Azerbaijan,
with few exceptions, agrees with the updated Madrid principles of
the Minsk Group.

Armenia refuses the principles, which were agreed earlier. That
position puts it into a hopeless situation. Armenia should abandon
its position and respect the international legal norms. It seems
to me that after the meetings in the U.S., to some extent, we will
witness a change," said the MP.

The root of many of today’s global challenges comes from separatism.

Azerbaijan is one of the countries suffering from separatism, and
Turkey is doing its best to prevent it, said Mirzazade.

"It is commendable that Turkey at a high level protects the interests
of Azerbaijan. The recent statements once again proved that Ankara’s
position has not changed," said the MP.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988
when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian
armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992,
including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The
co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group – Russia, France, and the U.S. –
are currently holding the peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council’s four
resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh region and the
occupied territories.

Armenia To Move Central Back Out Of Capital

Armenia Friday made another bold step toward its goal of becoming a
regional financial center. The country said in 2013 it will move a
considerable amount of operations of its Central Back (equivalent of
U.S. Federal Reserve) to a northern resort town Dilijan aiming to make
this beautiful small town as the financial capital of the region.
Yesterday the president of Armenia toured Dilijan and stopped at the
construction site of the complex where the future Central Bank will be
located. The construction is in process and the head of the Armenian
Central bank said that they will be able to move some operations to
work from Dilijan already starting in 2013.
Right now the plan is that 250-300 people with their families will
move to Dilijan too. The government is building a special residential
complex to house the employees of the Armenian Central bank in
Dilijan.
Armenia encourages it’s local and international banks to come to
Dilijan as part of a project to make the city as a regional financial
center. As the country’s economy grew 3.1 percent in the first
quarter, Armenian government hopes to capitalize on that growth and
focus partly on Dilijan, thus trying to ensure the entire economy is
not focused in and around the capital Yerevan.
In the meantime the Armenian banks did pretty well during the latest
recession as they were more conservative in lending. Consolidation is
now seen in the top Armenian banks as well. Just this week one of
Armenia’s top banks Americabank bought Cascade Bank and intends to
grow internationally capitalizing on the existence of a large and
powerful Armenian diaspora around the world.
The country has said devloping its financial sector and the IT
industry as one of the priorities of the economy. As Armenia is not
rich with oil and natural gas it focuses on industries that are more
resource effective and do not depend on natural resources.
