VOLUME OF OVERNIGHT TRANSACTIONS MAKES AMD 750MLN OVER FIVE STOCK-EXCHANGE BUSINESS DAYS

PanARMENIAN.Net
April 9, 2010 – 18:27 AMT 13:27 GMT

Based on results of five stock-exchange business days, the
volume of overnights provided to (and, accordingly, received by)
banks-participants of the auctions totaled AMD750mln, the weighted
average interest rate made 6.2% per year, CEO of NASDAQ OMX Armenia
Armen Melikyan told a PanARMENIAN.Net correspondent.

"Taking into consideration the fact that this instrument of
stock-exchange is aimed at securing not only the transparency of the
process of establishment of interest rates for overnight credits, but
also at assisting banks in more efficient administration of financial
resources, the stock exchange expects further increase in the volume
of transactions at this platform," noted he.

The CEO added that the stock-exchange commissions for transactions
at the credit market are set at the minimum level not to affect the
cost of credit resources.

Financial Director of HSBC Bank Armenia Gevorg Tarumyan reported that
the bank is in process of signing an agreement on this instrument
usage. "We plan to sign an agreement with NASDAQ OMX Armenia next
week," noted he.

Mr. Tarumyan also noted that this instrument will allow decreasing
the inter-bank interest rates during a short period of time.

The platform for inter-bank overnight credits was launched by NASDAQ
OMX Armenia stock-exchange on April 2, 2010.

Man ‘Killed By BlackBerry Thieves’

MAN ‘KILLED BY BLACKBERRY THIEVES’

April 7 2010
UK

A south London man died after being targeted for his BlackBerry phone,
the Old Bailey has heard.

Saravanakumar Sellappan, 24, was talking on the hi-tech mobile when
he was spotted by three robbers. He was only yards from his home when
he was struck on the head and fell to the ground before the BlackBerry
was stolen, said Aftab Jafferjee QC, prosecuting.

Mr Sellappan was taken to hospital by friends but fell into a coma
and died the next day, said Mr Jafferjee. He said Mr Sellappan was
walking home from work at a petrol station in October last year when
he rang a friend – a 20-minute call during which he was attacked.

The men had seen him in London Road, Thornton Heath, south London,
and followed him into residential Langdale Road, where they struck.

Mr Jafferjee added: "It was while he was on his BlackBerry that he was
spotted. It was a long call and that is what has been his misfortune –
it attracted those who were tracking him." Mr Sellappan suffered a
brain injury and fell into a coma within hours.

Armenian Roshan Samedov, 18, and Iranians Jegir Ahmmadi, 20, and Awat
Muradi, 18, all from Thornton Heath, deny murder and robbery.

Mr Jafferjee alleged that the defendants blamed each other when
arrested. He said they had been seen on CCTV following the victim and
inquiries about selling the BlackBerry had been made at a local shop.

Mr Jafferjee said Mr Sellappan complained to friends that his head hurt
but did not want the police to get involved because he might miss work.

A friend took him to the Mayday Hospital in Croydon but he was sent
home after telling a doctor he fell downstairs. Mr Jafferjee said he
was given a "plainly cursory" four-and-a-half-minute examination.

Mr Jafferjee said: "He was given a leaflet about head injuries.

Because the hospital had run out of leaflets for adults, he was given
a child’s leaflet. The doctor simply told him just to go home and
look after himself. He started to cry because he was obviously in
pain and nothing was being done."

Karabakh’s Self-Determination Will Help Resolve Conflict – Armenian

KARABAKH’S SELF-DETERMINATION WILL HELP RESOLVE CONFLICT – ARMENIAN MINISTER

Interfax
April 6 2010
Russia

Supporting the ability of the people living in the self-proclaimed
Nagorno-Karabakh republic to exercise their right of self-determination
will make it easier to find a solution to the conflict, Armenian
Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan said.

"We have said more than once that recognition of the Nagorno-Karabakh
people’s right to self-determination and their ability to exercise
this right are key to the settlement of the Karabakh conflict. The
co-chairmen of the OSCE Minsk Group understand this as well,"
Nalbandyan said at a joint news conference with European Commissioner
for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule in Yerevan on
Tuesday.Body

The European official, for his part, said that belligerent rhetoric
would not help resolve the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.

The principles of the non-use of force should be added to other
international principles used in the Karabakh peace process, he said.

The European Union supports the OSCE Minsk Group’s Karabakh settlement
efforts, and it has also been implementing a number of programs to
promote confidence building measures in the region, Nalbandyan said.

Baku lost control over Nagorno-Karabakh and seven neighboring districts
as a result of a conflict with Yerevan in the 1990s, which forced
nearly one million Azeri people to flee their homes.

The UN Security Council has adopted a number of resolutions condemning
the occupation of Azerbaijan’s territories and demanding the withdrawal
of Armenian servicemen from the region.

Azerbaijan and Armenia have been negotiating a solution to the
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict through third-party mediators from the U.S.,
Russia and France, which co-chair the OSCE Minsk Group.

Colors Don’t Run In This Military Family

COLORS DON’T RUN IN THIS MILITARY FAMILY

Massachusetts

CHELMSFORD For Felix Gregorian, nothing could be prouder than having
two sons attending the most prestigious military academies in the
land. Not even two tours overseas with the United States Army in Iraq
and Afghanistan, where he was immersed in a hotbed of hostility.

Say what you want about sibling rivalries, but when Dro Gregorian got
accepted into the Naval Academy at Annapolis in 2006, his brother
Greg wasn t to be denied. His acceptance came three years later to
the Military Academy at West Point.

Add it up and it represents nearly $400,000 in full scholarship grants,
not to mention the endorsements each received from their congressmen
and community. And should they be deployed like their dad, it goes with
the territory. Both boys are disciplined in the highest military order.

On May 29, Dro will graduate from Annapolis. He will take a leave
of absence throughout June, then return to the Naval Institute to
finish Introductory Flight Screening this summer. Then he ll report
to a squadron and complete a three-year tour.

"After researching and applying to different schools, I decided
the Naval Academy had the most to offer in terms of majors, sports,
extra-curricular activities and service assignments," said Dro. "My
father taught me it was an honor and privilege to serve. The branch
didn t matter."

At Chelmsford High, he played varsity soccer and ran track. Dro was a
member of the North Andover AYF and served as chapter president. He
remained active with St. Gregory Church where he was ordained as an
acolyte and stole bearer.

At graduation, Dro had been offered full ROTC scholarships from the
Navy, Army and Air Force.

His typical day starts at 6:30 a.m. with formation, then a full
class load. Afternoons consist of intramural sports and conditioning
while evenings are devoted to study time until 11 p.m. His major is
mechanical engineering.

His freshman year, Dro went out for lightweight crew before joining
the high-power rifle team. As a first sergeant his sophomore year,
his role leaned toward the care and welfare of underclassmen in terms
of professionalism, military appearance, fitness and high academic
standing.

He later became Company Executive Officer, taking command of 150
midshipmen, followed by a Battalion Administrative Officer this
semester in charge of five company officers.

The fact his brother chose West Point caused somewhat of a dilemma
when the two schools clash during their traditional football Army-Navy
rivalry.

When Felix attended the game last fall with his wife, Candace, the
parents divided their time on each side of the stands.

"This year s Army-Navy game was especially remarkable because of the
rivalry, not only between the two services but between my brother as
well," Dro admitted. "Despite our differences, we did spend the entire
game together with our family. I was especially pleased that day. Navy
won, of course, just like they ve done for the past eight years."

Brother Greg is a mirror image of his older brother who, no doubt, was
a big influence. He, too, was a scholar-athlete at Chelmsford High,
graduating with a 3.75 GPA. He captained the track team and played
varsity soccer, filtering through the AYF ranks with the North Andover
Chapter and playing in the HMEM Olympic Games. He was a member of two
honor societies and like his brother, served St. Gregory Church with
diligence as a stole bearer and acolyte.

"Seeing my brother apply was a huge reason for my application,"
said Greg.

"There is no question in my mind when it comes to becoming part
of the world s most elite military. My brother s insight was also
indispensable, as was my father s initiative to attend. Growing
up with all the military toys, watching war movies and dressing as
soldiers during Halloween played a big influence in our younger years.

The military is my call."

Greg was accepted to six of the nine schools to which he applied. His
three rejections were by the military academies. He attended Virginia
Tech for a year and enrolled in the Marine ROTC program.

Greg reapplied to West Point and Annapolis, was turned down by the
Naval Academy but got the appointment to West Point.

"It was a hard decision leaving Virginia Tech and repeating my freshman
year, but the best one I could have made," he said. "Forbes ranked West
Point the number-one college in the nation and for good reason. The
military training and academic curriculum here are top-notch."

His daily schedule is much like his brother s austere and by the book.

Study, gym time, meals. Marksmanship, land navigation, treatment of
combat wounds are among the required classes for plebes (freshmen).

Taps occur at 11:30 p.m.

"It is not a normal college," Greg said. "There are no parties. This
is a disciplined institution which trains military officers for
the future."

Currently ranked 836th in a class of 1,242 with a 2.7 GPA, Greg
expects to be deployed once he leaves. He hopes the concentration
will be Intelligence, Armor, Field Artillery or Infantry.

"I m prepared to serve my country wherever I m needed," he says. "…

I thank all the men and women currently serving America in the Armed
Forces and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect
our freedom."

Which all bodes well with the Patriarch General of this military unit.

Felix Gregorian offers a hearty salute to his two sons.

He s been with the Army Reserves 22 years and works in the
respiratory-care program at Brigham & Women s Hospital.

"We live in the best country with the best opportunities," he said.

"Our Armenian veterans are prominent in every conflict with every
nation down through the course of history… They are proof that
patriotism is alive and well."

Armenian Energy Minister: Armenia Not To Buy Gas From Turkmenistan

ARMENIAN ENERGY MINISTER: ARMENIA NOT TO BUY GAS FROM TURKMENISTAN

ArmInfo
2010-04-07 19:57:00

ArmInfo. Armenia will not buy gas from Turkmenistan, Armenian
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Armenian Co-chairman of the
Armenian-Turkmen Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation,
Armen Movsisyan, told journalists, Wednesday, after the opening of
the second sitting of the Commission in Yerevan.

According to him, the transit of Turkmen gas to Armenia via the
territory of Russia will cost as much as the Russian gas being
currently received by Armenia ($180 per 1 thsd cu m – editor). Asked
whether it is possible to deliver Turkmen gas to Armenia in a shorter
way, via the territory of Iran, the minister replied that there is
no such a pipeline yet.

Construction of this pipeline requires big investments, but neither
Iran nor Turkmenistan, which have their own gas reserves, will do
that, the minister said. "As both Iran and Turkmenistan have their
own gas, I do not think these large projects will be implemented",-
he said. The minister does not rule out cooperation in delivery of
Turkmen electric power to Armenia in case it is cheaper than the
Armenian electric power, transit costs inclusive.

To note, at present Armenia buys gas from Russia. Gas from Iran is
also delivered to Armenia, however, Armenia pays for Iranian gas with
Armenian electric power at the rate of 3 KW/h of electric power against
1 cu m of gas. The minister pointed out that the first sitting of the
Commission took place in Yerevan in 2009. The sides are currently
discussing the prospects of cooperation in the spheres of health,
education, energy, trade, transport and communication.

Kardashian jewelry line now available

The wait is finally over. After a sneak peak of the
Kardashian-inspired jewelry line in February, consumers can now
purchase one of the classic vintage pieces online. Now you can channel
your inner Kim and copy the look she rocked on a beach in Miami
earlier this week.

The Kardashian Collection for Virgins, Saints & Angels is now
available at ylang23.com. The romantic and edgy line celebrates the
Armenian heritage and embraces the unique style of Kim, Khloe &
Kourtney. The individual pieces are available in bronze or sterling
silver, both oxidized for a dramatic look.

The Kardashian girls are more than just a name behind the product.
Khloe explained the level of involvement contributed by each sister.
"We’ve all worked very hard on this project and my sisters and I are
absolutely thrilled with the way the line turned out! I can’t wait to
hear what you guys think and which are your favorite pieces. The
design was inspired by our Armenian heritage and there’s a great deal
of symbolism behind each piece"

The Kardashian women stand behind their product. Kim was spotted out
in Miami this week wearing a few signature pieces from the line. The
newly single reality star hit the beach wearing baubles from her and
her sisters’ new collection. Kim selected the double point cuff
bracelet ($430) and a pair of spike hoop earrings ($185) to accent her
Amahlia Stevens bikini.
