The Israeli Parliament will not submitted the Armenian Genocide issue
for discussions, Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Hulusi Kilic told
journalists today.

"Our position is that the parliamentarians should give an opportunity
to historians to study this issue. I think that Israeli Parliament
will not take a false step," Kilic said.

According to him, Turkey has many friends in Israel.

The Israeli Knesset approved Thursday a motion to discuss the
recognition of the Armenian Genocide in one of its committees. Twenty
MPs participated in the voting, 12 of whom voted for the decision
and eight – against.

The international community might blame Armenia for the failure of
the Armenian-Turkish process, member of the Political Board of the
Republic Party, representative of the Armenian National Congress
Suren Surenyants told a press conference today.

"Armenia was the first to take a decision on the suspension of the
ratification process. Therefore, the international community may
possibly blame Armenia for the failure, irrespective of Turkey’s
behavior," he added.

Surenyants does believe that the Armenian-Turkish protocols provide
a ground for establishment of peace and stability in the region. He
considers, however, that the process is deadlocked and it would be
naive to expect the international community to exert pressure on
Turkey, Suren Surenyants said.

President of Azeri state oil company Rovnag Abdullayev has stated that
negotiations between Turkey and Azerbaijan over the price of Azeri
natural gas are almost finalised. Both sides have been anticipating
the results of these negotiations as many political and economic
developments depend on them.

The negotiations concern the price of the gas consumed by Turkey or
transported via Turkey and the volume of gas transported there. The
countries were ready to make a final decision some time before but
what would happen on the date of 24 April was crucial for both sides
as this is the anniversary of the humanitarian catastrophe at the
beginning of 20th century when the Armenian population suffered a
great deal. Baku was concerned that Ankara would retreat under Western
pressure and open borders with Armenia, thus scuppering the deal.

If everything goes smoothly the new agreement will be signed either
in May, when the Turkish President visits Azerbaijan, or June when
his counterpart visits Turkey.

It is significant that on April 22 Armenia froze the ratification of
the Turkish-Armenian protocols, in protest that Turkey is demanding
that the Karabakh conflict be settled before the border is opened
and diplomatic relations restored.
